Phosphate adsorption isotherms were determined for 20, mostly very acidic, soils from the Mekong Delta. The experimental data were well described by a binary Langmuir equation which considers two groups of sorption sites that differ in their P bonding energies. The maximum P-sorption capacities of these sites were related to the soil properties by simple linear correlation and by stepwise multiple regression. Results suggest that high energy sites are on Al-oxihydroxides or small Al-substituted Fe-oxides and, to a lesser extent, on poorly ordered Fe-oxihydroxides. On the other hand, the P-sorption capacity of low energy sites is mainly related to clay content, and it increases as pH decreases. These sites are also positively correlated with organic carbon and poorly crystalline Fe-oxihydroxides. However, as these two variables are closely correlated with each other, organic matter is likely to be considered as an indirect factor of P fixation through its association with Fe-oxihydroxides and not as an important source of P-sorption sites. The maximum sorption capacity, i.e. the sum of sorption capacities of the two groups of sites, is well described (r2= 0.88) by an equation that takes into account the four variables identified above: Al-bearing oxihydroxides, poorly ordered Fe-oxihydroxides, clay content and pH. Grouping the soils according to the orders of Soil Taxonomy, the P-sorption capacity increases in the following sequence: ultisols < entisols < inceptisols. A P concentration often considered adequate for plant nutrition is 0.2 mg P 1?1 solution, and only the high energy sites are involved in sorption at that concentration. Thus an equation including only Al- and Fe-oxihydroxides could be used to fix P norms in these soils.  相似文献

Morpho-Physiological Changes in Roots of Rice Seedling upon Submergence   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Submergence is a serious environmental condition that causes large loss in rice production in rain fed lowland and flood affected area. This study evaluated morphological and physiological responses of rice roots to submergence using two tolerant rice genotypes FR13A and Swarna-Sub 1 and two sensitive ones Swarna and IR42. The tolerant genotypes had higher survival rate and less shoot elongation but greater root elongation during submergence than the sensitive ones. After submergence,the tolerant genotypes also had higher root dry weight and more active roots than the sensitive ones.Tolerant genotypes exhibited less root injury, with less malondialdehyde production and slower electrolyte leakage after submergence. Tolerant genotypes also maintained higher concentrations of soluble sugar and starch in roots and shoots and higher chlorophyll retention after submergence than the sensitive ones.Our data showed that root traits such as root activity and root growth are associated with survival rate after submergence. This is probably accomplished through higher energy supply, and membrane integrity is necessary to preserve root function and reduce injury during submergence. These root traits are important for submergence tolerance in rice.  相似文献

Pregnancy‐associated glycoproteins (PAG) constitute a large family of glycoproteins found in the outer placental epithelial cell layer of the placenta in Eutherian species. In ruminants, they are noted to be structurally closely related among the different species. This study was designed to determine PAG concentrations in maternal and fetal plasma, allantoic and amniotic fluids in buffalo species. Antisera (AS) generated in rabbits against distinct PAG molecules were used in three radioimmunoassay (RIA)‐PAG systems: RIA‐1 (antiserum raised against bovine PAG67kDa; AS#497), RIA‐2 (antiserum raised against caprine PAG55 + 62 kDa; AS#706) or RIA‐3 (antiserum raised against buffalo PAG; AS#859). Samples were collected at a slaughterhouse (n = 67). PAG concentrations determined by RIA‐2 gave significantly higher results in both allantoic and amniotic fluids (12.7 ± 2.1 ng/mL and 24.0 ± 7.3 ng/mL, respectively). Regarding maternal and fetal plasma, PAG concentrations obtained by RIA‐2 (21.8 ± 2.4 ng/mL and 20.2 ± 2.5 ng/mL, respectively) and RIA‐3 (25.0 ± 2.2 ng/mL and 21.9 ± 3.2 ng/mL, respectively) were higher than those obtained by RIA‐1 (15.5 ± 1.4 ng/mL and 16.1 ± 1.8 ng/mL, respectively). The correlation among the three systems was very high. The study clearly reveals the ability of different PAG‐RIA systems to measure PAG concentration in swamp buffalo samples.  相似文献

The effects of salt stress on physiological factors, such as inorganic ion absorption and antioxidative enzyme activities, of rice ( Oryza sativa L. cv. Anapurna) and Echinochloa oryzicola Vasing were investigated. Although having similar morphology, rice and E. oryzicola possessed considerably different salt-tolerance mechanisms. Echinochloa oryzicola was more salt-tolerant than rice. When exposed to salt stress (100 mmol L−1 sodium chloride, NaCl; six days), E. oryzicola had the ability to limit the accumulation of sodium ions (Na+), maintained high potassium ion (K+) content and had a constantly higher K+/Na+ ratio than rice. Rice was not effective in limiting Na+ absorption but had a higher antioxidative capacity than E. oryzicola . The constitutive activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase of rice were three and five times higher than that of E. oryzicola, respectively. Induced activities of SOD, ascorbate peroxidase and glutathione reductase were also higher in rice than in E. oryzicola . The high antioxidative capacity was one of the tolerance mechanisms used by rice to cope with salt stress. Therefore, the salt tolerant-mechanisms are different between the two plants.  相似文献

Water infiltration into soil is an important process in hydrologic cycle; however, its measurement is difficult, time-consuming and costly. Empirical and physical models have been developed to predict cumulative infiltration (CI), but are often inaccurate. In this study, several novel standalone machine learning algorithms (M5Prime (M5P), decision stump (DS), and sequential minimal optimization (SMO)) and hybrid algorithms based on additive regression (AR) (i.e., AR-M5P, AR-DS, and AR-SMO) and weighted instance handler wrapper (WIHW) (i.e., WIHW-M5P, WIHW-DS, and WIHW-SMO) were developed for CI prediction. The Soil Conservation Service (SCS) model developed by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), one of the most popular empirical models to predict CI, was considered as a benchmark. Overall, 154 measurements of CI (explanatory/input variables) were taken from 16 sites in a semi-arid region of Iran (Illam and Lorestan provinces). Six input variable combinations were considered based on Pearson correlations between candidate model inputs (time of measuring and soil bulk density, moisture content, and sand, clay, and silt percentages) and CI. The dataset was divided into two subgroups at random:70% of the data were used for model building (training dataset) and the remaining 30% were used for model validation (testing dataset). The various models were evaluated using different graphical approaches (bar charts, scatter plots, violin plots, and Taylor diagrams) and quantitative measures (root mean square error (RMSE), mean absolute error (MAE), Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency (NSE), and percent bias (PBIAS)). Time of measuring had the highest correlation with CI in the study area. The best input combinations were different for different algorithms. The results showed that all hybrid algorithms enhanced the CI prediction accuracy compared to the standalone models. The AR-M5P model provided the most accurate CI predictions (RMSE=0.75 cm, MAE=0.59 cm, NSE=0.98), while the SCS model had the lowest performance (RMSE=4.77 cm, MAE=2.64 cm, NSE=0.23). The differences in RMSE between the best model (AR-M5P) and the second-best (WIHW-M5P) and worst (SCS) were 40% and 84%, respectively.  相似文献

Soil organic carbon (SOC) pool has the potential to mitigate or enhance climate change by either acting as a sink,or a source of atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) and also plays a fundamental role in the health and proper functioning of soils to sustain life on Earth.As such,the objective of this study was to investigate the applicability of a novel evolutionary genetic optimization-based adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS-EG) in predicting and mapping the spatial patterns of SOC stocks in the Eastern Mau Forest Reserve,Kenya.Field measurements and auxiliary data reflecting the soil-forming factors were used to design an ANFIS-EG model,which was then implemented to predict and map the areal differentiation of SOC stocks in the Eastern Mau Forest Reserve.This was achieved with a reasonable level of uncertainty (i.e.,root mean square error of 15.07 Mg C ha-1),hence demonstrating the applicability of the ANFIS-EG in SOC mapping studies.There is potential for improving the model performance,as indicated by the current ratio of performance to deviation (1.6).The mnapping also revealed marginally higher SOC stocks in the forested ecosystems (i.e.,an average of 109.78 Mg C ha-1) than in the agro-ecosystems (i.e.,an average of 95.9 Mg C ha-1).  相似文献

The detection of bovine foamy virus (BFV) in Vietnamese cattle was performed using conventional PCR targeting pol and gag genes. Out of 243 tested samples, ten (4.1%) and eight (3.3%) samples were positive for BFV gag and pol DNA, respectively. The prevalence of bovine leukemia virus (BLV) estimated by detection of proviral DNA using nested PCR targeting env gene was 26.7% (65/243). The results of nucleotide sequence alignment and the phylogenetic analysis suggested that Vietnamese BFV strains showed high homology to isolates belonging to either European or non-European clades. There was no significant correlation between BLV and BFV. This study provides information regarding BFV infection and confirms the existence of two BFV clades among Vietnamese cattle for the first time.  相似文献
