Influence of laying on iron metabolism in quail   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
Haematological and iron content values for liver, spleen, intestines, blood, ovary and eggs were determined in female quails, from the prelaying state to full laying. A drop in hematocrit, haemoglobin and in the liver stores occurred at the onset of laying (48 to 51 d of age), but these values recovered after 5 to 10 d. The iron lost in eggs (0.3 mg Fe/egg) was responsible for this. An active homeostatic control must be necessary to supply adequate iron for both eggs and blood formation. Quails fed on an iron-deficient diet distributed iron preferentially to the haematopoietic processes, at the expense of the iron content of the eggs and a subsequent reduction of viability.  相似文献

Insulin and insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I) receptors from carp ovaries were semipurified with wheat germ agglutinin at different moments of the reproductive cycle and their binding characteristics and tyrosine kinase activity were studied. Specific receptors for insulin and IGF-I were found. IGF-I receptors presented higher binding (23.8 ± 1.5%), number of receptors (965 ± 20fm/mg) and affinity (KD 0.24 ± 0.03nM) than those shown for insulin receptors (4.1 ± 1%, 530 ± 85fm/mg and 0.85 ± 0.1nM, respectively). Insulin and IGF-I receptors have a tyrosine kinase activity which is not different from that found in muscle of the same species. Seasonal changes were found in binding, with maximum values for insulin and IGF-I reached at the end of pre-spawning period (June). However, while IGF-I binding was observed in all stages, insulin binding decreased in autumn and disappeared in winter, which suggests a different role for the two peptides in ovarian physiology.  相似文献

A bacterial strain, characterized as Vibrio pelagius (Hq 222), was isolated from a turbot, Scophthalmus maximus (L.), larvae mass mortality in a commercial fish farm in Spain. Turbot larvae, post-larvae (0.2 g) and juveniles (5 and 15 g) were experimentally infected. The bacterium appeared to be very virulent for larvae and post-larvae, LD50 being < 5 bacteria mL(-1) for larvae 1 week post-infection and 3.9 x 10(5) bacteria mL(-1) in post-larvae at day 12 post-infection. The bacterial strain was recovered in pure culture from the internal organs of infected fish. Histological lesions in post-larvae exhibited swelling and necrosis of gill secondary lamellae, sloughing of intestinal mucosa and necrosis of haematopoietic tissue in the kidney. Vibrio pelagius (Hq 222) was able to grow in sterile sea water when incubated at room temperature or at 15 degrees C. Vibrio pelagius (Hq 222) was more adherent to the turbot cell lines TV-1 and TF than Escherichia coli. In both cell lines, the number of adhered bacteria increased with incubation time.  相似文献

Common sole fed with commercial pellets develop anaemia and are restricted in their growth performance. The anaemia can be the result of a difference in feed intake, a nutritional deficiency, an inflammatory response to infection or combinations of these aspects. In this study, it was investigated whether feeding ragworm would alleviate the anaemia and stimulate growth. Sole were fed one of three diets: a commercial feed, a commercial feed treated with ragworm extract or chopped ragworm. By comparing groups, three hypotheses were tested: (1) feeding ragworm alleviates the anaemia and positively affectS the sole's metabolic performance reflected in feed intake, feed efficiency and growth; (2) anaemia is alleviated by a higher feed intake when feeding ragworm and (3) anaemia is caused by an inflammatory response to infection. The sole fed with a commercial diet suffered from anaemia. Feeding sole with ragworm alleviated the anaemia as the average haematocrit level nearly doubled in these fish as compared to fish fed pellets. Investigation of the expression of genes in the liver indicated that the anaemia in sole fed pellets is a nutritional anaemia and not an anaemia due to an inflammatory response. Sole fed ragworm showed improved growth which may be a consequence of the higher haematocrit levels in these fish increasing their oxygen carrying capacity. Addition of ragworm extract to the pellets levelled the feed intake between pellets and ragworm, but did not improve the anaemic state of sole and had only a limited effect on growth.  相似文献

In salmonid fishes, the role of insulin and insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) in the regulation of ovarian function is not well understood. Recently, we reported that isolated follicular layers of the preovulatory ovarian follicle of coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch) have specific receptors for insulin and IGF-I and that IGF-I modulates steroid production in the follicular layers. In the present study we have investigated the structural and functional characteristics of insulin and IGF-I receptors in the ovary of brown trout (Salmo trutta) and the changes in insulin and IGF-I binding throughout the reproductive cycle of this species. The specific binding for IGF-I was 8- to 15-fold higher than the specific binding for insulin. IGF-I receptors were also more specific than insulin receptors because unlabeled insulin displaced bound radiolabeled insulin at concentrations 40- to 80-fold lower than unlabeled IGF-I; whereas, unlabeled IGF-I displaced bound radiolabeled IGF-I at concentrations 4000- to 8000-fold lower than unlabeled insulin. Insulin and IGF-I receptors from the brown trout ovary were composed of 120 kDa -subunits and 90 kDa -subunits, which underwent autophosphorylation in a concentration-dependent manner. Receptor tyrosine kinase activity was also stimulated in a concentration-dependent manner by insulin and IGF-I. When ovarian insulin and IGF-I binding was determined from mid-vitellogenesis (March) until ovulation (November), maximal binding for both peptides was detected in mid-vitellogenesis and gradually decreased until the end of vitellogenesis (August). In the preovulatory period (October), a small increase of insulin and IGF-I binding was observed. After ovulation, insulin binding was no longer detectable and IGF-I binding was very low. These results suggest that insulin and IGF-I receptors in the salmonid ovary follow the structural pattern described in other vertebrate species and that insulin and IGF-I could be involved in the regulation of ovarian function during reproductive stages other than the preovulatory period.  相似文献

trans-Resveratrol is a polyphenol found in blueberries, grapes, and wine with cancer chemopreventive properties. The low bioavailability of this compound enhances its concentration in the luminal content and becomes a potential chemopreventive agent against colon cancer. In the present study, the antiproliferative and pro-apoptotic effects on the human colorectal carcinoma HT-29 cells as well as the mechanisms underlying these effects were examined. Proliferation, cytotoxicity, and apoptosis were measured by fluorescence-based techniques. Studies of dose-dependent effects of trans-resveratrol showed antiproliferative activity with an EC 50 value of 78.9 +/- 5.4 microM. Caspase-3 was activated in a dose-dependent manner after incubation for 24 h giving an EC 50 value of 276.1 +/- 1.7 microM. Apoptosis was also confirmed with microscopic observation of changes in membrane permeability and detection of DNA fragmentation. The activity of trans-resveratrol on the mitochondria apoptosis pathway was evidenced by the production of superoxide anions in the mitochondria of cells undergoing apoptosis. In conclusion, trans-resveratrol inhibits cell proliferation without cytotoxicity and induces apoptosis in HT-29. Results of the present study provide evidence demonstrating the antitumor effect of trans-resveratrol via a ROS-dependent apoptosis pathway in colorectal carcinoma.  相似文献

Two hypotheses that could explain increases in the biomass and production of lotic periphytic communities in acidified habitats were tested: 1) a greater bioavailability of P due to its greater release from sediments at low pH, and 2) utilization of S from the H2SO4 addition. The experiments were performed in semi-natural conditions by submitting the periphyton to either continuous or episodic acidification. The uptake of P and S by periphyton were determined at different times during the treatments. The increases in P and S uptake, in acidified habitats, are compatible with both hypotheses and could account for the increase in periphytic biomass and production.  相似文献

Black spruce from boreal forests located in northeastern Canada (Quebec) were sampled during the summer of 1990, at two stations located at 6° latitude from one another. The objective of the study was to compare the temporal and spatial evolution of mercury in the tree rings of sites with differing degrees of mercury contamination in their soils. Mean mercury tree ring contents ranged from 13 to 37 ng/g, and were more concentrated in the southern than in the northern station. No evident relationship was found between annual growth and corresponding mercury concentrations. The difference in tree ring mercury content associated with geographic orientation of the disks indicates that daily exposure to sunlight as well as temperature may affect mercury uptake, and that the mercury observed in the tree rings must be deposited from the atmosphere onto the tree surface.  相似文献

The rates of daily average, minimum and maximum oxygen consumption, specific dynamic action (SDA), ingestion and digestibility in gilthead sea bream, Sparus auratus L., were measured before, during and after a gradual rise of water temperature from 20 to 28 °C at a rate of 1 °C day-1. The relationship between energy gain and the metabolic costs has also been investigated. Oxygen consumption of juvenile sea bream had a clear daily rhythmicity, with low levels during darkness and higher levels during the light period. Both light and feeding processes raised the metabolism of sea bream, but fish fasted for 2 days also showed an increase in oxygen consumption during the light period. Acclimation to 28 °C was complete for the minimum oxygen consumption rate in 12 days, but daily average and maximum oxygen consumption rates on the 19th day after the change were still 33% higher than at 20 °C mainly due to increased SDA. The digestibility of food components did not change significantly throughout the experiment. These relationships are discussed with respect to the potential for growth when fish are reared at 28 °C, although the energy costs are high.  相似文献
