Mungbean is an important food grain legume with high economic status. It has an excellent source of dietary protein and nutritional health benefits, particularly for the vegetarians. It increases soil fertility and also plays an imperative role in major cropping systems due to its short life span. Production of mungbean is still decreasing due to its susceptibility towards various environmental stress factors. Salt stress is one of the most prevailing abiotic stress imposing threats for agriculture food crops along with increasing world population and limited natural resources. Fewer efforts have been made to develop an improved variety of mungbean. The present review summarizes the adverse effects of salt stress and mungbean response at the physiological and molecular level. It covers recent studies on introgression of useful traits in mungbean for its better adaptability and survival under stressed conditions. Modern biotechnological approaches and traditional breeding methods may assist the development of salt-tolerant cultivars of mungbean for salinity-affected area in arid and semi-arid regions. Researchers involved in this area should keep this goal on priority for sustainable mungbean production. Availability of protein-rich food may help to reduce the problem of malnutrition in poor families and national food security issue for a continuous rising population.  相似文献

Hybrid yarn was produced by twisting silk with nylon covered lycra yarn. Silk of 20 D in warp and hybrid yarn in weft was woven to develop lustrous woven stretch fabrics for sari blouse. Silk and hybrid yarn fabrics were produced in three different weaves namely plain, crepe and sateen. An in-depth study was carried out to understand the effect of weave on thermal comfort; low stress mechanical properties, total hand value and stretch properties. Nine blouses (3 samples× 3 figures) were constructed from three different woven stretch materials for fit assessment and objective pressure comfort test. The effect of fabric weave, low stress mechanical properties, total hand value and stretch properties on fit and pressure comfort of silk/hybrid yarn stretch fabrics were analyzed. Sateen weave silk/hybrid yarn stretch fabric shows higher total hand value, stretch properties and better thermal comfort properties. Sateen and crepe weave stretch fabrics provided good fit. Sateen weave fabric exerted lower clothing pressure value in the range of 3-12 mmHg at all body locations in standing position and in different postures.  相似文献

The stem rust resistance gene Rpg1 has protected North American barley cultivars from significant yield losses for over 65 years. The remarkable durability of this gene warrants further study as to its possible origin and allelic variation. Eight Swiss barley (Hordeum vulgare) landraces and eight wild barley (H. vulgare subsp. spontaneum) accessions from diverse geographic regions were analyzed to uncover new alleles of Rpg1 and learn about its possible origin. The two germplasm groups included accessions that were resistant and susceptible to Puccinia graminis f. sp. tritici pathotype MCCF. Allele-specific primers were utilized to amplify 1 kbp overlapping fragments spanning the Rpg1 gene and sequenced if a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) fragment was generated. Variation among the PCR products revealed significant polymorphisms among these Hordeum accessions. Landraces and wild barley accessions susceptible to pathotype MCCF exhibited the highest degree of Rpg1 polymorphism. One resistant landrace (Hv672) and one resistant wild barley accession (WBDC040) yielded all seven Rpg1-specific PCR fragments, but only landrace Hv672 coded for an apparently functional Rpg1 as determined by comparison to previously characterized resistant and susceptible alleles and also resistance to HKHJ, a stem rust pathotype that can specifically detect Rpg1 in the presence of other resistance genes. Accessions resistant to stem rust pathotype MCCF, but completely lacking Rpg1-specific PCR amplification and hybridization with an Rpg1-specific probe, suggested the presence of stem rust resistant gene(s) different from Rpg1 in the Hordeum germplasm pool. Some Rpg1 alleles that retained the ability to autophosphorylate did not confer resistance to Puccinia graminis f. sp. tritici pathotype MCCF, confirming our previous observations that autophosphorylation is essential, but not sufficient for disease resistance. Thus, the RPG1 protein plays a complex role in the stem rust disease resistance-signaling pathway.  相似文献

Sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) cv. Modern grown in refined sand at deficient (0.033 mg L‐1) boron (B) developed visible symptoms of low B accompanied by marked depression in growth, dry matter, tissue B, flower head size, and seed weight. The B deficient seeds showed a marked decrease in non‐reducing sugars and contents of oil and starch whereas in leaves reducing sugars accumulated. Except for slight increase in leaf B and flower size, resumption of sufficient B (0.33 mg L‐1) to B deficient plants from the day of anthesis could not appreciably alter the growth, dry matter, head size and seed weight of deficient plants. Apart from this, non‐reducing sugar content in seeds increased on resupplying B to deficient plants. A significant decrease in non‐reducing sugars and starch content in B sufficient seeds by withdrawing B from the day of anthesis indicate a specific role of B in production and deposition of reserve in the seeds of sunflower.  相似文献

Eight non-allelic male-sterile mutants controlled by a single recessive gene were induced in garden pea (Pisum sativum) after EMS, DES and gamma-ray-mutagen treatments singly and in combination. These mutants differ in the time and type of tapetal development due to differential action of male-sterile (ms) genes over the sporogenous and non-sporogenous anther tissue. In the msg1 mutant, the sporogenous tissue breaks down during premeiosis, followed by tapetal degeneration. In msg2, sporogenous tissue and tapetal tissue exhibit anomalies at early and late prophase 1, respectively. Although in msg3 and msg5 the ms gene action over sporogenous tissue initiates during early and late prophase, respectively, the tapetal tissue breaks down during post-meiosis. In msg6, anomalies in the sporogenous tissue appear during prophase II, but the tapetum degenerates during the mononucleate stage. Although both the tapetal and sporogenous tissue anomalies appear simultaneously at pachytene in msg4, the tapetal breakdown is delayed until the microspore stage. In msg7 and msg8, anomalies in both these tissues occur simultaneously during the tetrad and post-meiotic stages, respectively. Despite differences in the timing of tapetal and sporogenous tissue breakdown, tapetal development is normal in msg1, msg5, msg6, msg7 and nisg8 but abnormal in msg2, msg3 and msg4. The ms gene action is dual in msg2, msg3 and msg4 but single in msg1, msg5, msg6, msg7 and msg8. In all these mutants, the time of tapetal anomaly exhibits no correlation with the time of ms gene action. The gene for open flower found in one male-sterile mutant needs to be introduced into fertile peas for commercial hybrid-pea breeding.  相似文献

The main objective of the present study was to identify mitochondrial DNA based marker, which can distinguish male sterile and fertile counterparts of the cytoplasmic male sterile (CMS) lines used in production of rice hybrids. Amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) analysis in CMS lines: IR58025A & IR62829A and their respective maintainers: IR58025B & IR62829B identified a polymorphic DNA fragment of about 510 bp size that was present in both CMS (A) and absent in their maintainer (B) lines. Sequencing followed by database analysis of the polymorphic fragment indicated about 97% similarity with mitochondrial NADH gene subunits of rice, maize and wheat. Based on the variable sequence regions, a site specific primer pair (BF-STS-401) was designed. PCR analysis showed that BF-STS-401 could amplify a strong band of 464 bp size in CMS and a faint band of the same size in maintainer line. To act as a positive control and avoid possible errors in PCR, BF-STS-401 was multiplexed with a new primer pair (BF-STS-402), derived from mitochondrial atp9 subunit of rice, producing monomorphic amplification indiscriminately in both CMS and maintainer lines. Both the primer pairs in combination clearly differentiated CMS lines from their corresponding maintainer lines. This primer combination was validated in a set of diverse genotypes consisting of different sources of CMS lines, restorer lines, hybrids, varieties and mixed samples from private seed companies. Our results suggested that the multiplex primer pairs developed in this study can be effectively utilized to assess the genetic purity in commercial seed lots of CMS lines and hybrids of rice.  相似文献

Biofilm production by Staphylococcus aureus, an important virulence factor was investigated employing phenotypic and genotypic methods. A total of 102 S. aureus isolates from bovine subclinical mastitis cases were included in the study. Maximum number of biofilm producing strains were detected by Congo red agar (CRA) method (48.03%) followed by tube method (36.27%). Tissue culture plate method (TCP) without and with destaining identified 19.60 and 29.41% of S. aureus as biofilm producers, respectively. A polymerase chain reaction for detection of intercellular adhesion genes, icaA and icaD, responsible for biofilm formation was standardized. Of the 102 S. aureus isolates investigated, 36 (35.29%) strains revealed presence of both the genes. Considering polymerase chain reaction as a standard test, CRA and TCP without destaining were the most sensitive and specific, respectively. PCR technique standardized for detection of the icaA and icaD genes is reliable for identifying biofilm producing potential of S. aureus which may help in rapid detection of biofilm-producer Staphylococci. This would allow the early application of control measures.  相似文献

ABSTRACT:   Vertical profiles of water quality were surveyed before and after mass mortality of fish cultured in cages in Lake Cirata, a man made lake in Indonesia. The first survey was performed 4 months before the mass mortality and the second survey was carried out 4 days after the mass mortality. In the first survey, the conditions below 8 m depth were reductive and anoxic, although at 8 and 10 m depth, the water became oxidative in spite of low oxygen concentration in the second survey. These changes were probably caused by strong mixing of surface water with deeper water. Eight months after the mass mortality, when the redox potential at 8 m became reductive again, exposure tests of fish were performed in different layers in the water column around the cage. During the exposure tests the redox potential of the water was less than −100 mV and 93% of carp died within 6 h of exposure at 8 m depth. These results indicated that the mass mortality was caused by the strong mixing of surface water with reductive water in deeper layers.  相似文献
