We conducted a retrospective study in presumed normal dogs to determine the adrenal gland attenuation and volume values. Multidetector computer tomography (MDCT 16) analysis of the gland was carried out in 48 adult dogs without evidence of adrenal gland disease that underwent CT examination for acute spinal injuries. The mean nonenhanced attenuation value +/- SD of the left adrenal gland was 36.0 +/- 5.3 HU (range: 22.0-42.0 HU). The mean nonenhanced attenuation value +/- SD of the right gland was 34.3 +/- 7.0 HU (range: 20.4-48.6HU). The mean enhanced attenuation value +/- SD were: left gland 101.5 +/- 10.6HU (range: 86.8-128.0 HU), and right gland 97.4 +/- 12.4 HU (range: 58.9-123.6 HU). The mean CT volume +/- SD were: left gland was 0.60 cm3 (range: 0.20-0.95; SD 0.17), and right gland (0.55cm3, range: 0.22-1.01; SD 0.19). Attenuation values and volume data were related to age, weight, and gender, using ANOVA. There was no statistically significant difference between the left and right side or in adrenal measurements, because of body weight class effects. The animal effect was the most important source of variation for all adrenal measurements. Based on our study, CT is an effective method for assessing adrenal characteristics in the dog. Normative CT data are provided to allow estimation of normal adrenal gland size and volume.  相似文献

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the feasibility and usefulness of three-dimensional (3D) multislice computed tomography (CT) angiography with maximum intensity projection (MIP) and volume rendering (VR) in six dogs with clinical and sonographic findings suggestive of portosystemic shunt. Furthermore, we aimed to estimate the diameter of the portal vein and shunt vessels. MIP and VR reconstructions were performed for each patient and the origin and insertion of all shunt vessels were detected. In addition, 3D reconstructions allowed excellent depiction of vascular morphology and topography. All diagnoses and vessel measurements were confirmed by surgery. 3D multidetector CT angiography is a promising, noninvasive, and accurate method of evaluating dogs with suspected portosystemic shunts.  相似文献

We describe patterns of acquired portal collateral circulation in dogs and in a cat using multidetector row computed tomography angiography. Large portosystemic shunts included left splenogonadal shunts in patients with portal hypertension. Small portal collaterals were termed varices; these collaterals had several patterns and were related either to portal vein or cranial vena cava obstruction. Varices were systematized on the basis of the venous drainage pathways and their anatomic location, namely left gastric vein varix, esophageal and paraesophageal varices, gastroesophageal and gastrophrenic varices, gallbladder and choledocal varices, omental varices, duodenal varices, colic varices, and abdominal wall varices. As reported in humans and in experimental dog models, esophageal and paraesophageal varices may result from portal hypertension that generates reversal of flow, which diverts venous blood in a cranial direction through the left gastric vein to the venous plexus of the esophagus. Blood enters the central venous system through the cranial vena cava. Obstructions of the cranial vena cava can lead to esophageal and paraesophageal varices formation as well. In this instance, they drain into the azygos vein, the caudal vena cava, or into the portal system, depending on the site of the obstruction. Gallbladder and choledocal varices, omental varices, duodenal varices, phrenico-abdominal varices, colic varices, abdominal wall varices drain into the caudal vena cava and result from portal hypertension. Imaging plays a pivotal role in determining the origin, course, and termination of these vessels, and the underlying causes of these collaterals as well. Knowledge about these collateral vessels is important before interventional procedures, endosurgery or conventional surgery are performed, so as to avoid uncontrollable bleeding if they are inadvertently disrupted.  相似文献

In humans, pulmonary interstitial emphysema is most frequently seen in ventilated preterm newborns with severe lung disease; it is less frequently reported in adults. We report on a mature dog with pneumopathy that underwent computed tomography (CT) imaging to further characterize the lung disease. A bronchiolar pattern and lobar opacification were seen on the CT images. Moreover, gas was detected along the course of the pulmonary vessels, presumably in the interstitium, as seen in pulmonary interstitial emphysema in humans. Sever lung disease and/or hyperventilation during anesthesia could be a possible explanation of pulmonary interstitial emphysema in this dog.  相似文献

Botrytis allii was incubated at 20, 10,4, 2,0, – 2 and –4° to investigate effects of temperature on growth, sporulation and germination on potato dextrose agar (PDA), and to estimate incidence and severity of disease on garlic bulbs inoculated with the pathogen during storage. B. allii-was capable of growing to a colony diameter of 17 mm after 20 weeks, sporulating and germinating on PDA at temperature as low as – 4°C. After 12 weeks at –4 and -2°C the mycelial growth was observed only on 45–54% of bulbs wound-inoculated with conidial suspension, and infection was limited to 5 mm in diameter on the surface of inoculation sites without producing any symptoms of the disease. Temperature responses were similar for mycelial growth, conidial germination and infection, but mycelial growth and sporulation was slower and later on garlic bulbs than in culture. Wounds were readily colonized by B. allii. No disease was found on unwounded bulbs that were inoculated with conidial suspensions and with mycelial plugs at various temperatures. Only 16–95% of cloves became infected by contact with other cloves within the same bulb after 12 weeks of storage at temperatures of 4–20 C.  相似文献

Botrytis allii colonies incubated at low temperatures have been reported to produce larger conidia that germinate faster and give rise to longer germ-tubes than those grown at room temperature. The present study compared the effect of conidia produced at 20°C and at 0 and –2°C on their pathogenicity to artificially inoculated white onion bulbs, and the effect of conidial concentration (5×103 and 5×104 conidia/mL) on disease incidence, lesion area, incubation and latent period during storage at 20, 5 and 0°C. At all storage temperatures and periods tested conidia produced at −2°C caused a higher disease incidence and larger areas of rot than those produced at higher temperatures. When the conidial production temperature was raised to 20°C, the duration of incubation on the bulbs inoculated with 5×104 conidia/mL was more than doubled during storage at 0°C, tripled at 5°C, and took 50% longer at 20°C. The incubation period was not significantly affected by conidial concentration at 20°C, and only slightly at 5 and 0°C, but at low temperatures the latent period was longer because of the delay induced in sporulation. These data are consistent with the packers' opinion that cross-infection of spring onions by long-term refrigerated onions in grading lines caused earlier and heavier rotting.  相似文献

Abstract The development of the fin skeleton has been studied in both the wild and hatchery sea bass, Dicentrarchus labrax L., larvae, in order to identify and define morphofunctional criteria for larval quality assessments. The cartilaginous and bony skeletal elements of the larvae were studied and standard length and notochord flexure recorded. Fin anomalies were present in reared larvae, whereas they were rare or absent in specimens from the wild. These anomalies were recognizable from the very beginning of skeletal development, indicating that environmental, genetic and broodstock management factors influence even the very early stages of larval development.  相似文献
