Peanut pod wart, a relatively new disease to peanut culture, was first reported in Israel in 1988 attacking peanut plants and causing dark warts on the pod. The causal agents are variousStreptomyces spp. Scanning electron microscopy showed a significant difference between healthy and diseased tissues of the exocarp and mesocarp layers of the pod; there were no effects on the endocarp layer. The mesocarp cells of infected tissue were smaller and more compressed than those of healthy tissue. In most cases two cells under the peak of the wart were extremely large and the cells growing from them toward the surface were uneven, forming the shape of a fan. The pathogen could be isolated from the soil and rhizosphere, but in the pod it was found only in the waited tissue. The microorganisms isolated from the warts belong to different groups ofStreptomyces spp.; subsequent pathogenicity tests proved their virulence to a limited host range. In potato, these isolates ofStreptomyces spp. caused deep pitted scab; in peanuts they caused warts. Peanut seeds which developed in infected pods were free of the pathogen if the shell was undamaged. However, the pathogen is surface seedborne, and contaminated seeds during the mechanical cracking process.  相似文献

ABSTRACT Structural (space) solarization of a closed, empty greenhouse for sanitation involves dry heating to 60 degrees C and higher and low relative humidity (RH), under a fluctuating temperature and RH regime. Survival of inocula of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. radicis-lycopersici and Sclerotium rolfsii during structural solarization was studied for 4 years (total of 12 experiments) in an attempt to develop a dynamic model for expressing the thermal inactivation of the pathogens. After 20 days of exposure, the populations of F. oxysporum f. sp. radicis-lycopersici and S. rolfsii were reduced by 69 to 95% and by 47.5 to 100%, respectively. The Weibull distribution model was applied to describe pathogen survival. The Weibull rate parameter, b, was found to follow an exponential (for F. oxysporum f. sp. radicis-lycopersici) and the Fermi (for S. rolfsii) functions at constant temperatures. To improve the applicability of the model, fluctuating conditions of both temperature and RH were utilized. The Weibull distribution derivative, expressed as a function of temperature and moisture, was numerically integrated to estimate survival of inocula exposed to structural solarization. Deviations between experimental and calculated values derived from the model were quite small and the coefficient of determination (R (2)) values ranged from 0.83 to 0.99 in 9 of 12 experiments, indicating that ambient RH data should be considered. Structural solarization for sanitation could be a viable component in integrated pest management programs.  相似文献

Significant deviations from the ratios expected, according to the single dominant gene hypothesis for resistance to Fusarium wilt, were found in crosses involving several susceptible and resistant tomato lines. The susceptible class was the deficient one in F2 and F3 populations, as well as in backcrosses in which the heterozygotic resistant F1 served as the male parent. The reciprocal backcross, with the F1 as the female and the homozygous susceptible as the male, gave segregations better approximating or consistent with the single gene hypothesis. Reciprocal F1 and F2 generations did not give any evidence of cytoplasmic effects.The results were interpreted assuming preferential fertilization of ovules by pollen grains carrying the dominant I allele for resistance.The practical implications of the phenomenon of preferential fertilization in breeding for Fusarium resistance are discussed.  相似文献

Monilinia laxa, the incitant of blossom blight in stone fruits in Israel, is sensitive to 5μg/ml of the dicarboximide fungicides vinclozolin and iprodione in the growth medium. When a large number of spores, from an isolate never exposed to these fungicides, was seeded on a medium containing 15 μg/ml iprodione, spontaneous resistant mutants appeared at 10-5 frequency. These mutants showed cross resistance to the dicarboximide fungicides vinclozolin, procymidone, l-(3,5-dichloro-phenyl)-3-propen(2)-pyrrolidin-2,5-dion (Co 4462), l-(3,5-dichlorophenyl)-3-methoxymethyl-pyrrolidin-2,5-dion (Co 6054), and to dicloran. Growth rate on fungicide-free medium was similar to that of the parental sensitive strain but sporulation was much reduced. Growth rate on media supplemented with dicarboximide fungicides decreased gradually with increasing fungicide concentrations. The resistance has been stable for more than one year in the absence of fungicides. Artificial inoculation of cherry, apricot and plum fruits previously treated with 500 μg/ml vinclozolin, iprodione, procymidone or Co 6054, with a resistant strain, resulted in brown rot; similar treatments provided full protection of the fruits against the sensitive strain.  相似文献

ABSTRACT We studied the effect of water salinity on the incidence and severity of crown and root rot disease of tomato, as well as on the pathogen and on the plant's response to the pathogen. Irrigation with saline water significantly increased disease severity in tomato transplants inoculated with Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. radicis-lycopersici, and mineral fertilization further increased it. In one field experiment, disease incidence in plots irrigated with saline water (electrical conductivity [EC] = 3.2 +/- 0.1 dS m(-1)) and in those irrigated with fresh water (EC = 0.4 +/- 0.1 dS m(-1)) was 75 and 38%, respectively. Disease onset was earlier and yield was lower in plots irrigated with saline water. In a second field experiment, final disease incidence 250 days after planting, was 12% in plants which had been irrigated with saline water (EC = 4.6 +/- 0.1 dS m(-1)) and 4% in those irrigated with fresh water (EC = 1.2 +/- 0.1 dS m(-1)). Irrigation of tomato transplants with 20 mM NaCl did not inhibit plant development, but partial inhibition was observed at higher NaCl concentrations. Growth of the pathogen in culture or survival of conidia added to soil were not affected by saline water. Plants which were preirrigated with saline water were more severely diseased than those preirrigated with tap water. It was concluded that disease increases effected by saline water are associated with the latter's effect on plant response.  相似文献
