Chemical hybridizing agents (CHAs) can facilitate two-line breeding in heterosis programs of crops. Twenty-seven oxanilates having different aromatic substitutions were synthesized and screened as CHAs on two genotypes of wheat, PBW 343 and HD 2733, during two Rabi (winter) seasons, 2000-01 and 2001-02. The oxanilates prepared by thermal condensation of anilines with diethyl oxalate or by acylation with ethoxycarbonyl methanoyl chloride were sprayed at 1000 and 1500 ppm at the premeiotic stage of wheat, when the length of the emerging spike of the first node was 7-8 mm. Pollen sterility and spikelet sterility were measured in each treatment. Ethyl oxanilates 5, 6, and 25,containing 4-F, 4-Br, and 4-CF(3) aromatic substituents, respectively, induced greater than 98% spikelet sterility, the desired level, at 1500 ppm. Quantitative structure-activity relationship analysis revealed a direct relationship between F(p) and molecular mass but an inverse relationship between MR, E(S), and R in influencing the bioactivity. Several F(1) hybrids were developed using 5, and at least one showed heterosis.  相似文献

The scarcity of non-renewable fertilizers resources and the consequences of climate change can dramatically influence the food security of future generation. Introduction of high yielding varieties, intensive cropping sequence and increasing demand of food grains day-by-day, application of recommended dose of fertilizers could not fulfill our targets due to outdated fertilizers recommendations are yet in practice. It not only alters soil quality, nutrient balance, microbial and enzymatic ecology but also affected productivity and sustainability of rice in Gangetic alluvial soils of India. The effect of fertilizers application based on “fertilizing the soil versus fertilizing the crop” which insure real balance between the applied and available soil nutrient is urgently needed. Hence, the present study was conducted during three consecutive crop seasons (2010, 2011, and 2012) to assess the effect of imbalance and balance fertilization based on initial soil test values and targeted yields, and to determine the effect of farmyard manure (FYM) when superimposed with balanced fertilizers on identification of minimum data set for the development soil quality, nutrient acquisition, and grain yield of rice. The six fertilizer treatments were laid out in a randomized block design with three replications. The treatments were: T1-control (no fertilization), T2-farmyard manure @ 5 t ha?1, T3-farmers practice (60:30:30 kg N:P2O5:K2O ha?1), T4-precise application of mineral fertilizers based on initial soil test values (77:24:46 kg N:P2O5:K2O ha?1) for targeted grain yield of 4.0 t ha?1, T5-precise application of mineral fertilizers based on initial soil test values (74:23:43 kg N:P2O5:K2O ha?1) plus FYM (5 t ha?1) for targeted grain yield of 4.0 t ha?1 and T6-precise application of mineral fertilizers based on initial soil test values (135:34:65 kg N:P2O5:K2O ha?1) for targeted rice grain yield of 5.0 t ha?1. Result revealed that the targeted rice grain yield of 4.0 and 5.0 t ha?1 was achieved in T4 and T6 treatments with 1.59% (4.06 t ha?1) and –3.40% (4.83 t ha?1) deviations, respectively. T4, T5, and T6 significantly increased crop growth, nutrient uptake, available P (Pa) and K (Ka) and augmented rice grain yield by 10.6, 20.2 and 31.6%, respectively, over T3. Microbial biomass carbon, soil respiration and enzymatic activity were enhanced significantly in T5 as compared to T6. Highest soil quality index was found in T5 (0.95) followed by T6 (0.90) and, lowest was in T1 (0.63). The contribution of minimum data set (MDS) toward the SQI was in the descending order of ALP (30.6%) > SOC (21.5%) > Ka (11.3%) > PSM (9.68%) > Na (8.51%). Overall, rice yield and soil quality was improved by using balance fertilization based on fertilizing the crop Vs fertilizing the soil in alluvial soils of India.  相似文献

Facultative heterochromatin that changes during cellular differentiation coordinates regulated gene expression, but its assembly is poorly understood. Here, we describe facultative heterochromatin islands in fission yeast and show that their formation at meiotic genes requires factors that eliminate meiotic messenger RNAs (mRNAs) during vegetative growth. Blocking production of meiotic mRNA or loss of RNA elimination factors, including Mmi1 and Red1 proteins, abolishes heterochromatin islands. RNA elimination machinery is enriched at meiotic loci and interacts with Clr4/SUV39h, a methyltransferase involved in heterochromatin assembly. Heterochromatin islands disassemble in response to nutritional signals that induce sexual differentiation. This process involves the antisilencing factor Epe1, the loss of which causes dramatic increase in heterochromatic loci. Our analyses uncover unexpected regulatory roles for mRNA-processing factors that assemble dynamic heterochromatin to modulate gene expression.  相似文献

Summary Seed size as determined by seed weight, is an important trait for trade and component of yield and adaptation in chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.). Inheritance of seed size in chickpea was studied in a cross between ICC11255, a normal seed size parent (average 120 mg seed−1) and ICC 5002, a small seed size parent (average 50 mg seed−1). Seed weight observations on individual plants of parents, F1, F2, and backcross generations, along with reciprocal cross generations revealed that the normal seed size was dominant over small seed size. No maternal effect was detected for seed size. The numbers of individuals with normal, small and medium (average 150 mg seed−1) seed sizes in F 2 population were 1237, 323 and 111 fitting well to the expected ratio of 12:3:1 (χ2 = 0.923, P = 0.630). The segregation data of backcross generations also indicated that seed size in chickpea was controlled by two genes with dominance epistasis. We designate the genotype of ICC 11255 as Sd 1 Sd 1 sd 2 sd 2, and ICC 5002 as sd 1 sd 1Sd2 Sd 2 wherein Sd 1 is epistatic to Sd 2 and sd 2 alleles.  相似文献

Simulation of nitrate-N movement in southern Ontario,Canada with DRAINMOD-N   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
DRAINMOD-N, a mathematical model to predict nitrate-N concentrations in surface runoff and drain outflows from subsurface-drained farmlands, has been tested against field data collected in southern Ontario. The data was collected in a corn field from 16 conventional drainage and subirrigation plots in Woodslee, Ontario, from 1992 to 1994. The model performance was evaluated by comparing the observed and simulated nitrate-N concentrations in surface runoff and drain outflows. A precise calculation of water-table depth is an essential prerequisite for a model to obtain a proper prediction of nitrate-N movement. For the simulation of water-table depth, the lowest root mean square error and the highest correlation coefficient of linear regression were 173 mm and 0.51 for the subirrigation plots; and 178 mm and 0.84 for the subsurface drainage plots. Therefore, the performance of DRAINMOD-N for soil hydrologic simulations was satisfactory and it could be used for assessing nitrogen fate and transport. For the simulation of nitrate-N losses in the subirrigation plots, the lowest root mean square error and the highest correlation coefficient of linear regression were 0.74 kg/ha and 0.98 for surface runoff; and 6.53 kg/ha and 0.91 for drain outflow. For the simulation in the subsurface drainage plots, the lowest root mean square error and the highest correlation coefficient of linear regression were 0.70 kg/ha and 0.96 for surface runoff; and 6.91 kg/ha and 0.92 for drain outflow. The results show that DRAINMOD-N can perform satisfactory simulation of soil hydrology and nitrate-N losses in surface runoff under various water-table management practices. The model can, therefore, be used to evaluate different water pollution scenarios and help in the development and testing of various pollution control strategies for fields in cold weather such as that in southern Canada.  相似文献

In Japan, tea is generally sold blended, though 90% of the total production is clonal. Due to the increasingly strict consumer need and taste, however, more and more Japanese green teas are being sold under their particular cultivar name. Moreover, tea made from Yabukita, a much appreciated cultivar originally developed in Japan, has recently been produced and imported from a neighboring country. This paper describes a simple and inexpensive methodology capable of identifying fresh and processed Japanese green teas to discourage its fraudulent commercialization. The study was based on 46 main tea cultivars, and polymorphism detected through STS-RFLP analysis of the coding and noncoding DNA regions of three genes, namely phenylalanine ammonia-lyase, chalcone synthase, and dihydroflavonol 4-reductase, for which nucleotide information was available. All 46 tea cultivars analyzed could be easily distinguished using a combination of codominant DNA markers. Yabukita displayed a unique profile when PAL intron was digested with DdeI, thus allowing its rapid authentication at low cost.  相似文献
