A field experiment was conducted on Indian mustard (Brassica juncea) with five levels of sulfur (S), 0, 15, 30, 45, and 60 kg S ha?1 in sub-tropical Inceptisol of Jammu, North India. The residual effect of S on rice crop was evaluated. The seed and stover yield of mustard increased in the linear order up to 60 kg S ha?1 but significant yield increase was obtained up to 30 S kg ha?1 which was 21.4 percent higher in comparison to the yield obtained in control. The uptake of S at maturity was significantly affected with all the levels of S application. The seed S uptake increased significantly up to 30 kg S ha?1 and stover 45 kg S ha?1. The residual effect of S was convincing in enhancing the rice yield to the tune of 5.3% over control, but was statistically non-significant. The S uptake was also favourably influenced by the residual S which was evidenced through increased S use efficiency. Agronomic and physiological efficiency as well as S recovery were all greatly influenced by direct and residual effect of S. Apparent S recovery was higher at 30 kg S ha?1 in mustard (12.06%).  相似文献

Hepatoprotective (HP) activity of Vitex negundo (VN) leaf ethanolic extract was investigated against hepatotoxicity (HT) produced by administering a combination of three anti-tubercular drugs isoniazid (INH)-7.5 mg/kg, rifampin (RMP)-10 mg/kg and pyrazinamide (PZA)-35 mg/kg for 35 35 days by oral route in rats. V. negundo leaf ethanolic extract was administered in three graded doses of 100, 250 and 500 mg/kg orally, 45 min prior to anti-tubercular challenge for 35 days. HP effect of V. negundo leaf ethanolic extract was evident in the doses of 250 and 500 mg/kg as there was a significant decrease in TB, AST, ALT and ALP levels in comparison to control. Histology of the liver section of the animals treated with the V. negundo leaf ethanolic extract in the doses of 250 and 500 mg/kg further confirms the HP activity.  相似文献

The present study aimed at characterization of fertility-associated proteins in PR and RIR x Local roosters and was conducted on two generations of birds. Roosters were divided into high- (>50%) and low-fertility groups (<50%) based on sperm function tests and fertility rate in both the generations. Polyclonal antibodies were raised in rabbits against sperm proteins of first generation highly fertile roosters and tested for characterization of fertility-associated sperm proteins in the second generation of same roosters. IgG fraction against proteins (anti-SP IgG) was reacted with sperm proteins of both high and low fertile roosters of second generation on immunoblots. SDS-PAGE of sperm extracts of PR and RIR x Local cross breeds resulted in resolution of 12 and 23 proteins on 12% acrylamide gels and anti-SP IgG reacted only with 8 and 9 sperm proteins of PR and RIR x Local cross roosters on immunoblots. The SDS-PAGE and immunoblotting analysis also indicated a variation in sperm proteins among two breeds and high/low fertile roosters. It can be concluded that the selection of roosters on the based on proteins of 65/ 25; 70/ 46/ 30 kDa may be specifically associated with high fertility of PR and RIR x Local cross, respectively. The proteins 62 kDa (PR) and 40kDa (RIR x Local cross) may be specifically responsible for low fertility.  相似文献

This paper reports the effect of green tea administration following subacute toxicity caused by exposure to organophosphorus pesticide chlorpyriphos in liver of rats. Four groups containing five male Sprague-Dawley rats each were selected. Group I served as control. Group II rats were permitted free access to solubilised crude extract of green tea (1.5%w/v in water) as the sole drinking fluid. Group III rats were given a single daily oral dose of chlorpyriphos (30 mg/kg bodyweight in corn oil). Group IV rats received oral dose of pesticide and green tea extract simultaneously. All rats were sacrificed after 15 days. Significant damage to liver was observed via increased serum levels of transaminases and alkaline phosphatase. Lipid peroxidation showed a 5-fold increase in pesticide exposed rats compared to control. In contrast, levels of antioxidant GSH, glutathione-dependent enzymes like glutathione peroxidase (GPx), glutathione S-transferase (GST) and free radical scavengers like catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) were significantly lower than those of the control group reinforcing oxidative damage. The use of green tea extract appeared to be beneficial to rats, although not to a great extent in significantly reducing and reversing the damage sustained by pesticide exposure and favors recovery.  相似文献

For successful conservation and domestication of a species, evaluation of its genetic diversity by different markers is important. Morphological characteristics, phytochemical variation and random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) profiles were generated in different accessions of Podophyllum hexandrum in order to determine the genetic diversity. Random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis revealed a high degree of genetic diversity among the accessions used in the study. There was also high diversity in the concentration of marker compounds in the collected samples as revealed by HPLC analysis. It is shown that the approaches used in the work successfully discriminate between the accessions of this species and thus they constitute interesting tools to analyze molecular, biochemical and phenotypic diversity within this species. Similarity measurement using UPGMA followed by cluster analysis resulted in formation of many groups based on geographical distribution that generally reflected expected trends between the genotypes. There were also some important exceptions like PW-S, an accession from Wastoorwan, Khrew showing close resemblance to PG-S and PG-B collected from Gulmarg but grown at two different gene banks at Srinagar and Bonera. Further an accession PSH-B from Keller was significantly diverse from the rest of the native genotypes phytochemically, morphologically and at molecular level. RAPD data analysis was found to be significant predictor of phytochemical markers in cultivated P. hexandrum germplasm. Twelve accessions grown in gene bank repository were subjected to RAPD analysis and were assessed for content of podophyllotoxin and podophyllotoxin β-d-glycoside by HPLC. Individual regressions of podophyllotoxin and podophyllotoxin β-d-glycoside by RAPD analysis against HPLC has been found to determine linear values. Strong correlation and a strong association of values of the phytochemical variables and the DNA polymorphism data has been recorded.  相似文献

Plantago ovata, commonly called as the 'desert Indian wheat' is a cultivated and economically important plant of the genus Plantago, a large genus containing ~200 species. It yields Psyllium (Isabgol) which has several health benefits and applications in pharmaceutical, food and cosmetic industries. In view of the genetic uniformity, detection of variability has remained a challenge in this species as the plant lacks inherent variability and has a narrow genetic base. During the present study, Random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) was used to determine genetic relationship and detect whatever little hidden variation exists in this species and some of its wild allies. Limited genetic variability was observed in P. ovata whereas; extensive genetic variability was seen in its wild allies. The genetic distances among different accessions of P. ovata and different species of Plantago, were used to generate a dendrogram.  相似文献
