Mitigation of nitrous oxide (N2O) emission from swine wastewater treatment was demonstrated in an aerobic bioreactor packed with carbon fibers (CF reactor). The CF reactor had a demonstrated advantage in mitigating N2O emission and avoiding NOx (NO3 + NO2) accumulation. The N2O emission factor was 0.0003 g N2O‐N/gTN‐load in the CF bioreactor compared to 0.03 gN2O‐N/gTN‐load in an activated sludge reactor (AS reactor). N2O and CH4 emissions from the CF reactor were 42 g‐CO2 eq/m3/day, while those from the AS reactor were 725 g‐CO2 eq/m3/day. The dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) in the CF reactor removed an average of 156 mg/L of the NH4‐N, and accumulated an average of 14 mg/L of the NO3‐N. In contrast, the DIN in the AS reactor removed an average 144 mg/L of the NH4‐N and accumulated an average 183 mg/L of the NO3‐N. NO2‐N was almost undetectable in both reactors. 相似文献

ABSTRACT: This study was undertaken to describe and quantitatively analyze the pattern of development of gametes in the Japanese scallop Patinopecten yessoensis . Incorporation of 5-bromo-2'-deoxyuridine (BrdU) into gonial cells was used to quantitatively detect mitotically active gonial cells. Oogonia increased in number from November to December and decreased rapidly to March. A small number of oocytes was detected in November. Oocytes steadily increased in number and size up to March. The number of spermatogonia slightly increased from November to December, and increased markedly from January to March. Both ratios of BrdU-immunopositive gonial cells in the ovary and testis to gonial cells moderately increased from September to December. The ratio of BrdU-immunopositive spermatogonia to gonial cells drastically increased from January to February and kept an elevated level in March, whereas the oogonia started to disappear in January. The results suggest that the pattern of proliferation of gonial cells can be divided into two phases: (i) phase I, oogonia and spermatogonia slowly proliferate through the growing stage; and (ii) phase II, oogonia develop into oocytes and spermatogonia begin to proliferate rapidly through the mature and spawning stages. The proliferation of gonial cells is likely under different endocrine controls in phases I and II. 相似文献

The understanding of animal products and dairy farming is important for the promotion of dairy farming. Thus, to examine the effects of farm experience on the understanding of animal products and the management of dairy farming, the interaction between students and dairy cows was investigated in groups of first‐year veterinary nursing students in 2011 and 2012 (n = 201). These students included 181 women and 20 men. Nine items about dairy cows were presented in a questionnaire. The survey was performed before and after praxis on the educational farm attached to the authors' university. After praxis on the farm, increases occurred in the number of positive responses to the items involving the price of milk, dairy farming and the taste of milk. For these items, a significant difference (P < 0.05) was found between the scores obtained before and after training. The results of the study suggested that farm experience is useful for improving the understanding of animal products and dairy farming. 相似文献

The diversity of endobacteria associated with ectomycorrhizas of Suillus variegatus and Tomentellopsis submollis, in two Corsican pine (Pinus nigra) stands was analysed by cultivation-dependent and cultivation-independent molecular methods. Denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) analysis revealed the cultivable endobacterial communities associated with S. variegatus were similar within the same stand. The most abundant cultivable bacterial species belonged to the genera Pseudomonas and Burkholderia. Cultivation-independent molecular analysis indicated that the structure of the endobacterial communities in ectomycorrhizas was consistent across all samples regardless of ECM fungal species or the pine stand from which the samples were collected. However, comparison between rDNA- and rRNA-derived DGGE gels showed that metabolically active endobacterial species were not always detected in rDNA-based profiles. Clone libraries constructed from rRNA molecules indicated that Pseudomonas and Burkholderia spp. were metabolically active bacteria. As some of the most abundant cultivable bacteria, including Bacillus/Paenibacillus spp., were not detected in cultivation-independent DGGE profiles, a combination of cultivation-dependent and -independent approaches provided a more complete assessment of the diversity of endobacteria associated with ectomycorrhizas. 相似文献

Four green-odour compounds—trans-2-hexenal, cis-3-hexenol, n-hexanal, and cis-3-hexenal—were applied (0.85 μg ml−1 as vapour) to rice plants in laboratory conditions to observe their biological activity against the phytopathogenic fungus
Maganporthe oryzae, which causes rice blast disease worldwide. Two compounds, trans-2-hexenal and cis-3-hexenal, showed remarkable disease suppression efficacy (99.7% and 100% suppression, respectively), while n-hexanal had moderate (86.5%) and cis-3-hexenol had weak (20.8%) disease-suppressing effects. Pre-application and post-application of trans-2-hexenal or cis-3-hexenal had slight effects on blast incidence, suggesting that these compounds had direct effects to suppress M. oryzae infection. In fact, trans-2-hexenal and cis-3-hexenal exhibited a growth suppression effect on M. oryzae. Interestingly, these two compounds inhibited appressorium formation at lower concentrations than the growth suppression.
Studies on the hypersensitive response (HR)-like reaction and plant β-1,3-glucanase activity in rice plant confirmed that
induced resistance was not the major factor involved in the disease suppression mechanism. Results of this study conclusively
showed that trans-2-hexenal and cis-3-hexenal possess potent inhibitory activities against the growth and the appressorium formation of M. oryzae and could be used as antifungal agents to significantly reduce M. oryzae infections in rice. 相似文献

Artificial insemination using sex‐sorted semen is employed to efficiently increase the number of female dairy calves born. Previous studies have determined that using sex‐sorted semen is beneficial to improve the management, but the mechanism by which it increases cattle numbers through objective indices of breeding remains unclear. This study focused on a Brown Swiss cattle herd in which frozen female sex‐sorted semen was systematically employed to increase the number of cattle. We analyzed the correlation between the increase in the number of cattle and the screening accuracy of sex‐sorted semen, measuring indices such as pregnancy rate and birth rate of female calves. Study revealed that: (1) production cost for female calves is influenced by the pregnancy rate, rate of female calves, and using sex‐sorted semen is less expensive than using nonsorted semen; (2) improvements in screening accuracy nearly doubled the number of cows and tripled the number of heifers in 5 years; and (3) use of sex‐sorted semen improved milk quality. The pregnancy rate was lower when sex‐sorted semen was used, but the birth rate of heifers was improved. Results suggest that artificial insemination using sex‐sorted semen is beneficial because it economically produces offspring to increase the herd. 相似文献

Boards were produced by using SP adhesive, which contains styrene-butadiene rubber and polyethylene glycol as major constituents.
The use of polyethylene in place of clay, which is also a generally used constituent of SP adhesive, was confirmed to improve
board properties. In general, the properties of boards are poorer when produced by two-stage pressing, in which mats are first
processed by temporary adhesion and then processed into boards by permanent adhesion; however, the properties of boards produced
by two-stage pressing were improved when polyethylene was added to the SP adhesive. In addition, internal bond strength and
thickness swelling was greatly improved when boards were produced from ozonized wood and by sealed pressing. Thus, the properties

Indian dwarf wheat (Triticum aestivum L. ssp. sphaerococcum (Perc.) Mac Key, synonym: T. sphaerococcum Perc.) is endemic to southern Pakistan and northwestern India. It was one of the main winter crops grown by ancient Indian cultures. However, it disappeared from the record during the early twentieth century, especially after the Green Revolution brought modern wheat varieties into India and Pakistan. Whether or not Indian dwarf wheat is presently cultivated has been unclear. Here we report on the rediscovery of the cultivation of this wheat in northern Karnataka and southern Maharashtra in India. Molecular genetic analysis of the chloroplast DNA of the two specimens collected at location 3 revealed that both samples have a unique haplotype that is specific to Indian dwarf wheat. We found this wheat at three locations in 2010, but at only one of the three locations in 2011. Therefore, the future survival of this subspecies is uncertain. Further ethnobotanical research is urgently needed to conserve this unique genetic resource for the future. 相似文献

To investigate maturation of spermatia of Botryotinia fuckeliana, we examined micro-structural changes in spermatia in liquid culture. Three to four spherical lipid bodies were seen in the
center of the cell at the start of culturing. After 3–7 days, maturing spermatia had developed large mitochondria along with
extensively developed granular endoplasmic reticulum. In contrast, the lipid bodies decreased not only in number but also
in size over time. The results obtained here suggest that the maturation of spermatia involves active cell metabolism using
