Functionalization of cellulosic nanofibers was established to develop antibacterial bandages. The functionalization was conducted through preparation of carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) containing different metal nanoparticles (MNPs) such as copper nanoparticles (CuNPs), iron nanoparticles (FeNPs) and zinc nanoparticles (ZnNPs). Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy was used to characterize CMC containing MNPs and scanning electron microscopy coupled with high energy dispersive X-ray (SEM-EDX) to study the surface morphology of CMC with and without MNPs. Furthermore, back scattering electron detector was used to show the position of metal nanoparticles on the microcrystalline CMC. In addition, UV-visible spectroscopy was used to confirm MNPs formation. Nanofiber mats of CMC containing MNPs were synthesized using electrospinning technique. Surface morphology of electrospun CMC containing MNPs was characterized using SEM. The obtained data revealed that elctrospun CMC nanofibers containing MNPs were smooth and uniformly distributed without bead formation. The average fiber diameters were in the range of 150 to 200 nm and the presence of MNPs in the nanofiber did not affect the size of the electrospun nanofiber diameter. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images displayed that MNPs were existed inside and over the surface of the electrospun nanofibers without any agglomeration. The average particle diameters of MNPs were 29-39 nm for ZnNPs, 23-27 nm for CuNPs and 22-26 nm for FeNPs. Moreover, Water uptake of electrospun nanofiber mats and the release of MNPs from nanofibers were evaluated. Nevertheless, electrospun CMC nanofibers containing MNPs had an excellent antibacterial activity against Gram-negative bacteria Escherichia coli and Gram-positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus.  相似文献

This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary supplemental L-ascorbic acid (AA) and folic acid (FA) on broiler chickens under heat stress (HS) conditions when supplemented either alone or in combination. For this aim, the effect of these supplements on the broilers’ growth performance, some blood parameters, antioxidant, and immune status were evaluated. Hatchling Cobb-500 broilers (total = 240) were fed either corn and soybean meal-based diet (control group) or basal diet supplemented with 200 mg AA/kg diet, 1.5 mg FA/kg diet, or 200 mg AA plus 1.5 mg FA/kg diet, for 35 days during the summer months (n = 6 replicates/group, 10 birds/replicate). The minimum and maximum average temperatures ranged from 84.5 to 96.2 °F, and the relative humidity ranged from 68.5 to 76.5%. Supplemented vitamins either alone and (or) in combination increased (P < 0.01) broilers’ growth performance, thyroid hormones levels, insulin growth factor1, blood hemoglobin, total protein, albumin, globulin, heat shock protein70, total antioxidant capacity, catalase enzyme activity, superoxide dismutase enzyme activity, antibody titer against Newcastle disease virus, and decreased (P < 0.01) heterophil/lymphocytes. The effects (P < 0.01) of the supplemented vitamins on the analyzed parameters were better when they were added in combination. In conclusion, the combination of AA and FA at 200 and 1.5 mg/kg, respectively, increased the broilers’ antioxidant status with coordinated improvement in the growth performance and health status under HS.

Electrically conducting nanofibers based on cellulosic materials offer cheap and safe class of materials that can be used for water desalination. In the present work, high conducting cellulose triacetate (CTA) nanofibers containing multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) with very low percolation threshold concentration (0.014 wt%) were produced by electrospinning. Unprecedentedly, a hydrophilic ionic liquid consists of 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ([BMIM]Cl) was used to dissolve CTA producing a solution of 10 wt%. This CTA solution was used to engineer both bare CTA nanofibers and CTA nanofibers impregnated with MWCNT. The fabricated nanofibers were characterized by the field emission-scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and the high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM). Both FE-SEM and HR-TEM images showed that the MWCNTs were inserted and uniformly distributed inside electrospun nanofibers. Furthermore, mechanical properties such as tensile strength of MWCNTs loaded-CTA electrospun nanofibers was significantly improved by up to 280 % and 270 % for the Young modulus, when compared with the bare CTA fibers. In addition, the surface properties as the hydrophilicity of electrospun nanofibers membrane was enhanced due to the presence of MWCNTs. Moreover, the electrical conductivity of MWCNT loaded-CTA electrospun nanofibers was greatly enhanced after the implementation of the MWCNTs inside the CTA fiber. The performance of composite nanofiber for water desalination was examined in a lab-scale classic capacitive deionization (CDI) unit, at different concentrations of salt. The obtained data revealed that the electro-adsorption of anions and cations on the surface of MWCNTs loaded-CTA electrospun nanofibers electrodes were monitored with time and their concentration were decreased progressively with time and reaches equilibrium.  相似文献

Hydro-ethanolic extract (70%) of Calotropis procera flowers was prepared and tested for its hepatoprotective effect against paracetamol-induced hepatitis in rats. Alteration in the levels of biochemical markers of hepatic damage like SGPT, SGOT, ALP, bilirubin, cholesterol, HDL and tissue GSH were tested in both treated and untreated groups. Paracetamol (2 g/kg) has enhanced the SGPT, SGOT, ALP, bilirubin and cholesterol levels and reduced the serum levels of HDL and tissue level of GSH. Treatment with hydro-ethanolic extract of C. procera flowers (200 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg) has brought back the altered levels of biochemical markers to the near normal levels in the dose dependent manner.  相似文献

Two liquid chromatographic methods that involve precolumn derivatization with o-phthaladehyde (OPA) and phenylisothiocyanate (PITC) with fluorescence and diode array UV detection for the determination of theanine have been developed. The chromatographic separations were achieved by reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography using octadecyl columns and gradient elution. The methods were applied to evaluate the theanine content of commercial tea leaves. The coefficient of variation of the peak area repeatability for within day (n = 8) and between day (n = 8 over 10 days) was lower than 3% for both of the methods. The estimated limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantitation (LOQ) for the OPA method was 0.12 and 0.35 microg theanine, respectively. The PITC method was 500-fold more sensitive with LOD and LOQ values of 0.25 and 0.75 ng, respectively. The theanine content of the commercial tea samples varied from 2-5 mg/g leaf. The overall % recoveries for these methods ranged from 93-99.3. The sensitivity and simplicity of the method render them suitable for use in quality control laboratories.  相似文献

In this study, an amidoxime-grafted cotton fabric ion exchanger was developed for methylene blue (MB) removal from wastewater. The ability of the amidoxime-grafted cotton fabrics to remove MB ions from an aqueous solution was investigated in equilibrium, kinetics and thermodynamics studies. Equilibrium data agreed well with the Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm models. The result indicated that, based on the Langmuir coefficient, the maximum capacity (monolayer saturation at equilibrium) of the amidoxime-grafted cotton fabric was 22.27 mg/g. The kinetic data were found to follow the pseudo-second-order model, and intra-particle diffusion is the sole rate-controlling factor. Negative values of ΔG 0, ΔH 0, and ΔS 0 revealed the spontaneous, exothermic and entropy-driven nature of the process.  相似文献

Rice blast, caused by fungus Magnaporthe grisea, is a serious disease causing considerable economic damage worldwide. Best way to overcome disease is to breed for disease‐resistant cultivars/parental lines of hybrids. Pusa RH10, first aromatic, fine‐grain rice hybrid released and cultivated extensively in India. Hybrid and its parental lines, Pusa 6A and PRR78, are highly susceptible to blast. CO39 pyramid carrying two dominant, broad‐spectrum blast‐resistance genes, viz. Pi‐1 and Piz‐5, used as a donor parent to introgress these genes into PRR78 using marker‐assisted backcrossing (MABC). Microsatellite markers RM5926 and AP5659‐5 tightly linked to Pi‐1 and Piz‐5 genes, respectively, were used for foreground selection to derive introgression lines. Further, these lines were evaluated for agronomic performance, disease reaction and cooking quality traits along with PRR78. Most of the improved lines were on par with PRR78 for all traits evaluated except gelatinization temperature. Recurrent parent genome percentage (RPG) study also revealed similarity of these lines with PRR78. Hybrids derived using improved PRR78 lines were superior over Pusa RH10 in terms of yield.  相似文献

We evaluated the effects of maturation-stimulating hormones on the post-thaw motility of land-locked form ayu ( Plecoglossus altivelis ) spermatozoa. Male ayu were administered three intraperitoneal injections of either salmon pituitary extract (SPE; 0.2 or 0.6 mg g−1 BW day−1) or of 17, 20β-dihydroxy-4-pregnen-3-one (DHP; 2 or 10 μg g−1 BW day−1), the maturation-inducing steroid (MIS) in ayu. Before cryopreservation, the motility of spermatozoa of the SPE- and DHP-treated groups was significantly higher than that of the control group. Similarly, the comparative post-thaw motility (presented as a percentage of the motility obtained before cryopreservation) was significantly higher in the SPE group than in the control; however, there was no significant difference between the DHP group and the control. The effect of SPE and DHP on pre- and post-cryopreservation motility was not dose dependent. Our results suggest that the hormone(s) present in salmon pituitary are effective in enhancing the tolerance of ayu sperm cells to cryopreservation and that the MIS (DHP) is not involved in this process.  相似文献

Angiotensin I-converting enzyme (ACE), a dipeptidyl carboxypeptidase, catalyzes the conversion of Angiotensin I to the potent vasoconstrictor Angiotensin II and plays an important physiological role in regulating blood pressure. Inhibitors of angiotensin 1-converting enzyme derived from food proteins are utilized for pharmaceuticals and physiologically functional foods. ACE inhibitory properties of different enzymatic hydrolysates of glycinin, the major storage protein of soybean, have been demonstrated. The IC50 value for the different enzyme digests ranges from 4.5 to 35 microg of N2. The Protease P hydrolysate contained the most potent suite of ACE inhibitory peptides. The ACE inhibitory activity of the Protease P hydrolysate after fractionation by RP-HPLC and ion-pair chromatography was ascribed to a single peptide. The peptide was homogeneous as evidenced by MALDI-TOF and identified to be a pentapeptide. The sequence was Val-Leu-Ile-Val-Pro. This peptide was synthesized using solid-phase FMOC chemistry. The IC50 for ACE inhibition was 1.69 +/- 0.17 microM. The synthetic peptide was a potent competitive inhibitor of ACE with a Ki of 4.5 +/- 0.25 x 10(-6) M. This peptide was resistant to digestion by proteases of the gastrointestinal tract. The antihypertensive property of this peptide derived from glycinin might find importance in the development of therapeutic functional foods.  相似文献
