Tomato is the most economically important fruit/vegetable crop grown worldwide. However, viral diseases remain an important factor limiting its productivity, with estimated quantitative and qualitative yield losses in tomato crops often reaching up to 100%. Many viruses infecting tomato have been reported, while new viral diseases have also emerged. The climatic changes the world is experiencing can be a contributing factor to the successful spread of newly emerging viruses, as well as the establishment of disease in areas that were previously either unfavourable or where the disease was absent. Because antiviral products are not available, strategies to mitigate viral diseases rely on genetic resistance/tolerance to infection, control of vectors, improvement in crop hygiene, roguing of infected plants and seed certification. Tomato brown rugose fruit virus (ToBRFV) is an emerging viral threat to tomato productivity and is currently spreading into new areas, which is of great concern to the growing global production in the absence of mitigation measures. This review presents the current knowledge about ToBRFV and future prospects for an improved understanding of the virus, which will be needed to support effective control and mitigation of the impact it is likely to cause.  相似文献

We determined the flock sizes and rates of loss caused by different factors in broody-hen chicks (BHC) up to 60 days of age on 600 randomly selected smallholdings in Bangladesh. The smallholders were beneficiaries of a village poultry production chain called ‘Smallholder Livestock Development Project-2’ (SLDP-2) which was undertaken with the financial assistance of the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA). For estimating survival time of BHC, we observed chicks in 80 smallholdings. SLDP-2 aims at ameliorating poverty among women by poultry rearing at village level; in total, 104,000 key rearers, constituting 96% of all of the beneficiaries of the SLDP-2 area, were enrolled in 26 upazilas (a lower administrative unit of Bangladesh). A key rearer is a smallholder who rears at least five ‘Sonali’ (RIR × Fayoumi) and some indigenous (desi) chickens in a semi-scavenging system. Sonali chickens are supplied from the development project, and have higher egg production while the broodiness of the desi hens is exploited to get chicks hatched for future stocks; thus, the chicks hatched and reared to 60 days old at key rearers’ households are called BHC. In this study 32% of the smallholders had BHC each month. At the beginning of a month, the median number of chicks in a flock was 8, and the mean survival time was 50.5 days. Incidence rates of loss of BHC from disease, predation, selling and slaughtering were 0.102, 0.086, 0.009 and 0.002 per chick-month at risk, respectively. The major predators were crows, mongooses and eagles with incidence rates of loss being 0.018, 0.016 and 0.010 per chick-month at risk, respectively. Colibacillosis (both single and mixed infections) contributed to the death of 21% of dead BHC collected; Newcastle disease and salmonellosis contributed to the next highest (14 and 12%) proportional mortalities.  相似文献

Serosurvey of five viruses in chickens on smallholdings in Bangladesh   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
A serologic survey was undertaken in chickens in smallholdings in Bangladesh for avian influenza A virus (AIV), egg drop syndrome '76 virus (EDS'76V), infectious bronchitis virus (IBV), Newcastle disease virus (NDV) and reovirus (RV) in three phases: January 2002-May 2003, September 2003-August 2004, and August 2005-March 2006. Four hundred thirty-six sera collected in the 2nd phase, 295 in the first phase, 755 in the 1st plus 2nd phases and 295 in the 1st phase were investigated for AIV, EDS'76V, IBV and RV, respectively, using enzyme linked immunosorbent assays. All 854 sera collected in the three phases were screened for NDV using hemagglutination inhibition test. In chickens 20% were seropositive to AIV, 3% to EDS'76V, 74% to IBV, 88% to NDV, and 47% to RV. The seroprevalence in flocks was 23% to AIV, 6% to EDS'76V, 79% to IBV, 89% to NDV and 56% to RV. Twenty-five percent chickens had > or = 10log(2)HI titers to NDV.  相似文献

Long-lasting viable fungal spores are one of the important aspects in emergence, spread and disease development of pathogenic fungi. We developed a rapid and miniaturized system using Alamar Blue (resazurin dye; 7-hydroxy-3H-phenoxazin-3-one 10-oxide) for assessing fungal spore viability, using the ascomycete Leptosphaeria maculans (causing blackleg disease on canola) as a ‘model pathogen’. The assay is dependent on the metabolic activity of viable fungal spores to convert the dark blue of resazurin (maximum absorbance 605 nm) into the pink colour of resorufin (maximum absorbance 573 nm). The Alamar Blue assay uses an optimised micro-titre based format that was far superior for determining fungal spore viability in comparison with current conventional techniques including trypan blue staining, a TC10 cellometer cell counter, or by assessing germination of the spores under the microscope. This new assay was also more rapid and reproducible than current conventional tests to detect viable spores. Viable spores could be reliably detected within two hours. The successful application of the Alamar Blue assay to measure fungal spore viability in the current study has important benefits for biosecurity operations relating to faster and more reliable confirmation of viability of potential invasive exotic fungal pathogens and in minimising any consequent disease outbreaks. The effectiveness of the Alamar Blue assay was confirmed by successfully determining the relative retention times of viable L. maculans ascospores across a range of different potential spore-carrier materials, including steel, fabric, wood, paper, rubber and leather, over a time period of eight months. To further confirm the wide applicability of the Alamar Blue assay, it was successfully applied to detect viable spores of fungal pathogens of diverse taxonomic groups, including Kabatiella caulivora, Magnaporthe oryzae and Puccinia striiformis f.sp. tritici, and also of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae.  相似文献

The effects of profit and land value tax on harvesting decisions of nonindustrial private forest owners are investigated. We use a model of a utility-maximizing forest owner with amenity preferences for timber, which extends the basic two-period harvesting model to include both thinning and clear-cutting harvests. It is demonstrated that with no amenity preference, the profit and land value taxes are neutral to clear-cutting and thinning decisions. Under small to medium amenity preferences, the profit tax decreases the optimal clear-cutting volumes. However, the effect on thinning may be positive or negative, depending on the amenity preference level. The total effect of the profit tax on the short-run timber supply is negative. The effects of the land value tax contrast with those of the profit tax. Also, a tax regime with a lowered profit tax rate combined with a land value tax is analysed. It is shown to be able to bring Pareto-improvement to a regime that uses a higher profit tax but no land value tax.  相似文献

ObservationsA total of 13 intracerebral infusions were performed at approximately 1 month intervals in three NIH miniature pigs over the age range of 31–59 weeks. Pigs received azaperone and ketamine premedication to allow venous cannulation and propofol induction of anaesthesia. Anaesthesia was maintained with isoflurane throughout cranial surgery and MRI scanning. Physiological monitoring during surgery consisted of blood pressure, pulse, temperature and oxygen saturation monitoring, ECG and capnography. Analgesia consisted of meloxicam and morphine. However, during MRI scanning blood pressure and ECG monitoring had to be discontinued. Anaesthetized pigs underwent intermittent intraputamenal convection enhanced delivery (CED) of gadolinium with real-time magnetic resonance imaging. Progressive tachycardia was consistently observed in all pigs during CED with a mean ± SD maximum increase of 41 ± 22 beats minute?1 from a baseline heart rate of 96 ± 9 minute?1. The heart rate remained elevated until recovery. A mean reduction in body temperature of 2.8 ± 0.6 °C from the start of anaesthesia was also observed during the period of MRI scanning. All pigs recovered from anaesthesia smoothly and heart rates returned to normal during the recovery period.ConclusionsHypothermia is common in pigs undergoing this sedation and anaesthesia protocol. Convection enhanced delivery of drugs in healthy anaesthetized pigs may result in tachycardia.  相似文献

Southeast Asia hosts a great diversity of different rattan genotypes. There are 5 genera and 60 different species of rattan in India and the Northeastern region is a natural sanctuary for 4 different genera and 16 different species. The natural reserves of this species have come under the threat of genetic erosion due to overexploitation. This investigation was directed at characterizing 15 rattan genotypes of the genera Calamus, Plectocomia and Daemonorops which yield rattans of commercial importance, based on RAPD fingerprints. From 20 different random decamer primers, 12 primers gave reproducible amplification profiles and 104 polymorphic bands. A considerable degree of polymorphism (98.1%) was detected among the genotypes. Jaccard’s coefficient of similarity ranged from 0.146 to 0.632 with a mean of 0.320±0.082, signifying extensive genetic divergence among the genotypes studied. UPGMA cluster analysis clearly distinguished P. assamica Griff. and C. erectus Roxb. The other 13 genotypes were grouped into two distinct clusters, one cluster involving two C. tenuis genotypes along with C. inermis T.Anders. and C. acanthospathus Griff. and the other cluster involving the rest of the Calamus genotypes along with D. jenkinsianus (Griff.) Mart. Unique fingerprints for 7 Calamus and 1 Daemonorops genotypes were detected. The results presented in this paper demonstrated the utility of RAPD markers in elucidating patterns of genetic variation among genotypes of the three main rattan genera of Northeast India and in identifying individual genotypes, which may serve as potential sources of unique genetic material for genetic improvement and conservation.  相似文献

Puccinia graminis f. sp. tritici (Pgt), the causal organism of stem rust, is of global importance across wheat‐growing countries. However, some epidemics commence without the obvious presence of ‘alternate’ or ‘green bridge’ hosts, suggesting urediniospores can survive in the absence of suitable host plants for many weeks. Testing a range of inert material types, including metals, plastics, fabrics and woods, highlighted a significant effect of material type and temperature on urediniospore viability (< 0.001), with urediniospores remaining attached and viable on these materials (aluminium, paper, rubber, all fabric and all woods) for up to 365 days at 23/8 °C day/night. At 36/14 °C day/night, urediniospore viability was retained for a maximum of 300 days on denim and jute. Furthermore, at 45/15 °C day/night, urediniospores remained viable for a maximum of 180 days on cotton and jute. The frequency of recovery of attached urediniospores was also dependent upon the material type, with significant differences between materials in their abilities to retain urediniospores after washing (< 0.001). Urediniospores recovered even after 300 or 365 days from the lower two temperature regimes successfully initiated infections of wheat seedlings. Results confirm the potential importance of inert materials as long‐term carriers of viable Pgt urediniospores, highlighting risks of spread of new pathotypes and strains across wheat‐growing regions, the significant biosecurity implications for contaminated carrier materials, and its likely survival across seasons without a host.  相似文献
