Sirophysalis trinodis and Polycladia myrica, two brown seaweeds present on the southeast coast of Iran, were evaluated for their nutritional and functional properties after drying. Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis of crude polysaccharides revealed the characteristic absorption bands of phenol, O–H, C–H, C–O–S, C–O, C=O, C–H groups, and β-glycosidic linkages from cellulose, with the sulfate contents estimated as 4.89 ± 0.11% and 6.96 ± 0.05% of SO4?2. Results of nutritional profiles revealed all of the essential amino acids, especially methionine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, threonine, valine, phenyl alanine, and arginine. In addition, important fatty acids such as linolenic acid, palmitic acid, and oleic acid were found in high amounts. The other nutritional components present in high amounts were proline and minerals such as calcium, magnesium, iron, manganese, copper, and zinc. The antibacterial activity was weak, but the result of antioxidant activities (hydroxyl and superoxide radicals scavenging and ferrous-ion chelating ability) of crude polysaccharides was considerable. In general, the findings of this study recommend that S. trinodis and P. myrica dried seaweeds have a potent nutritional value and might be used as a valuable source of nutrient supplements for humans and animals.  相似文献

The use of polyphosphates as a partial replacement of salt in different meat products to improve water holding capacity yield and retard oxidative rancidity has been noticed for many years. Therefore, in this study, effects of polyphosphates dip treatment in 5% solution with three different compounds of phosphate—including tetrasodium pyrophosphate (TSPP), sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP), and a mixture of them on kutum (Rutilus frisii kutum) fillets stored in ice was investigated for 18 days. Phosphate pretreatments showed desirable modal effects on fillets. In particular, the use of TSPP and the mixture of TSPP and STPP solutions were found to delay the fish fillet color changes and improved textural characteristics. An increase in water holding capacity accompanied with a decrease in hardness was observed in samples pretreated with polyphosphates. In total, the results indicated that dipping kutum fillets in polyphosphates solution was the most effective method to improve the quality properties of fillets during ice storage when compared with other phosphate-treated groups.  相似文献

The present study investigated the effects of monovalent and bivalent vaccines against Streptococcus iniae and Vibrio harveyi on growth performance, blood biochemical parameters, immune system, and antioxidant defense of Asian seabass (Lates calcarifer) fingerlings. Fish were exposed to seven experimental groups containing phosphate buffer saline (control), S. iniae vaccine by injection, S. iniae vaccine by immersion method, V. harveyi vaccine by injection, V. harveyi vaccine by immersion method, S. iniae/V. harveyi vaccines by immersion method, and S. iniae/V. harveyi vaccines by injection in triplicate for 60 days. Vaccination resulted in a significant alteration of the final weight (FW), feed conversion ratio (FCR), daily weight gain (DWG), relative growth rate (RGR), glucose, lysozyme, and complement levels at 60 days post-vaccination. Also, serum glutathione activity significantly increased in group SVIM (S. iniae/V. harveyi vaccines by immersion method) compared to the control group at 60 days post-vaccination. The level of MDA in serum was significantly decreased in SIN (S. iniae vaccine by injection) and SVIM groups compared to the control group 60 days post-vaccination where the value of this parameter was significantly higher in VIM (V. harveyi vaccine by immersion method) and SVIN (S. iniae/V. harveyi vaccines by injection) groups. The results of this study suggest that exposure to monovalent and bivalent vaccines against S. iniae and V. harveyi could alter the growth performance, nonspecific immune response, and antioxidant defense of Asian seabass fingerlings.

Background:One of the main challenges with conventional scaffold fabrication methods is the inability to control scaffold architecture. Recently, scaffolds with controlled shape and architecture have been fabricated using 3D-printing. Herein, we aimed to determine whether the much tighter control of microstructure of 3DP PLGA/β-TCP scaffolds is more effective in promoting osteogenesis than porous scaffolds produced by solvent casting/porogen leaching. Methods:Physical and mechanical properties of porous and 3DP scaffolds were studied. The response of pre-osteoblasts to the scaffolds was analyzed after 14 days. Results:The 3DP scaffolds had a smoother surface (Ra: 22 ± 3 µm) relative to the highly rough surface of porous scaffolds (Ra: 110 ± 15 µm). Water contact angle was 112 ± 4° on porous and 76 ± 6° on 3DP scaffolds. Porous and 3DP scaffolds had the pore size of 408 ± 90 and 315 ± 17 µm and porosity of 85 ± 5% and 39 ± 7%, respectively. Compressive strength of 3DP scaffolds (4.0 ± 0.3 MPa) was higher than porous scaffolds (1.7 ± 0.2 MPa). Collagenous matrix deposition was similar on both scaffolds. Cells proliferated from day 1 to day 14 by fourfold in porous and by 3.8-fold in 3DP scaffolds. ALP activity was 21-fold higher in 3DP scaffolds than porous scaffolds. Conclusion:The 3DP scaffolds show enhanced mechanical properties and ALP activity compared to porous scaffolds in vitro, suggesting that 3DP PLGA/β-TCP scaffolds are possibly more favorable for bone formation. Background: Pectic acid extracted from plants increases the secretion of prolactin (PRL) when injected intravenously into ewes or fed to rats. Fragments of ewe hypophysis and lactating rabbit mammary gland incubated in vitro in the presence of pectic acid secreted more PRL and caseins compared to the controls. However, it is not known whether pectic acid directly stimulates PRL secretion in pituitary or interference of factors from hypophysis is required for this process. Methods: GH3/B6 cells, a clonal strain of rat pituitary, were cultured and incubated with pectic acid (2.5-100 mug/mL). The integrity of cells was examined under pectic acid treatment microscopically. Controls or pectic acid treated cells were assayed for their ability to produce PRL. The PRL was assayed by Western-blotting and Radioimmunoassay. Results: pectic acid did not have any significant effect on the viability of cells. After being incubated with pectic acid, the cells started to become circular and protuberant shape. The maximum stimulation and PRL secretion occurred at 100 mug/mL concentration within 30 min of incubation with pectic acid. Conclusion: pectic acid could stimulate the release of PRL in GH3/B6 cells in the short-term incubation. This result suggested that pectic acid is a non-toxic agent that could directly stimulate PRL secretion in pituitary cells without any interference of hypophysis.  相似文献
