In the past five decades, constant research has been directed towards yield improvement in pigeonpea resulting in the deployment of several commercially acceptable cultivars in India. Though, the genesis of hybrid technology, the biggest breakthrough, enigma of stagnant productivity still remains unsolved. To sort this productivity disparity, genomic research along with conventional breeding was successfully initiated at ICRISAT. It endowed ample genomic resource providing insight in the pigeonpea genome combating production constraints in a precise and speedy manner. The availability of the draft genome sequence with a large‐scale marker resource, oriented the research towards trait mapping for flowering time, determinacy, fertility restoration, yield attributing traits and photo‐insensitivity. Defined core and mini‐core collection, still eased the pigeonpea breeding being accessible for existing genetic diversity and developing stress resistance. Modern genomic tools like next‐generation sequencing, genome‐wide selection helping in the appraisal of selection efficiency is leading towards next‐generation breeding, an awaited milestone in pigeonpea genetic enhancement. Kisspeptins, a family of neuropeptide encoded by the Kiss1 gene, have emerged as crucial regulator of fertility and reproduction by regulating the hypothalamic–pituitary–gonadal axis. The present study was aimed to identify and associate SNPs in the KISS1 gene with reproductive traits in cattle of Indian origin. DNA samples collected from 300 individual cows of three Indian dairy breeds (Gir, Kankrej and Frieswal) of cattle were used in the study. The SNPs of KISS1 gene were identified with PCR-RFLP and sequence analysis using two sets of primer pairs. A total of 5 SNPs were identified in the targeted region of which, two were selected for screening the population and association studies. The analysis revealed that genotypes of rs442633552G>A and rs42022871C>T had a significant association with dry period. The SNP rs42022871C>T also established significant role in milk production traits, and selection of TT-genotyped animals will improve the reproduction and production potential of the animals. 相似文献

Rubidium-strontium age and elemental and isotopic abundances of some trace elements in lunar samples
Data on six lunar crystalline rocks give an apparent Rb-Sr isochron age of 4.42 +/- 0.24 x 10(9) years (95 percent confidence limits) and initial (87)Sr/(86)Sr ratio similar to that in a basaltic achondrite. Relationships between K, Rb, Sr, and Ba and depletion of Eu in these samples point to plagioclase separation from the melts that produced these rocks. The abundance of (157)Gd in the three lunar samples is similar to terrestrial abundance within < 0.2 percent, thus setting a limit of < 6 x 10(15) neutrons per square centimeter for the integrated thermal neutron flux difference between lunar and terrestrial materials. 相似文献

Gymnema sylvestre is an important medicinal plant which bears bioactive compound namely gymnemic acids. The present work deals with optimization of cell suspension culture system of G. sylvestre for the production of biomass and gymnemic acid and we investigated effects of macro elements (NH4NO3, KNO3, CaCl2, MgSO4 and KH2PO4 - 0.0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0× strength) and nitrogen source [NH4+/NO3− ratio of: 0.00/18.80, 7.19/18.80, 14.38/18.80, 21.57/18.80, 28.75/18.80, 14.38/0.00, 14.38/9.40, 14.38/18.80, 14.38/28.20 and 14.38/37.60 (mM)] of Murashige and Skoog medium on accumulation of biomass and gymnemic acid content. The highest accumulation of biomass (165.00 g l−1 FW and 15.42 g l−1 DW) was recorded in the medium with 0.5× concentration of NH4NO3 and the highest production of gymnemic acid content was recorded in the medium with 2.0× KH2PO4 (11.32 mg g−1 DW). The NH4+/NO3− ratio also influenced cell growth and gymnemic acid production; both parameters were greater when the NO3− concentration was higher than that of NH4+. Maximum biomass growth (159.72 g l−1 of FW and 14.95 g l−1 of DW) was achieved at an NH4+/NO3− ratio of 7.19/18.80, and gymnemic acid production was also greatest at the same concentration of NH4+/NO3− ratio (11.35 mg g−1 DW). 相似文献

The gymnemic acid contents in various organs of Gymnema sylvestre were investigated by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) method. The results shows that the content of gymnemic
acid in various organs, obviously different, was 54.29, 31.66, 28.82, 27.67, 25.39, 20.56 and 1.31 mg·g−1 DW in shoot tips, flowers, nodes, leaves, internodes, roots and seeds, respectively. The highest gymnemic acid content (54.29
mg·g−1 DW) was found in shoot tip, 1.96 fold higher than that in leaves (27.67 mg·g−1 DW). Maximum quantity of gymnemic acid (35.39 mg·g−1 DW) was observed in the young leaves, which was 1.52 times higher than that in old leaves (23.07 mg·g−1 DW). The content of gymnemic acid in young, middle and old internodes was 26.47, 25.77 and 23.94 mg·g−1 DW, respectively, all lower than that in leaves (27.67 mg·g−1 DW), whereas the content of gymnemic acid in young, middle and old nodes was 27.96, 28.81 and 29.66 mg·g−1 DW, respectively, all higher than that in leaves. The study provides the scientific evidences for the rational development
and utilization of Gymnema sylvestre resources, since over exploitation of natural stands has caused depletion of these plants in nature.

The earliest step in creating the cerebral cortex is the specification of neuroepithelium to a cortical fate. Using mouse genetic mosaics and timed inactivations, we demonstrated that Lhx2 acts as a classic selector gene and essential intrinsic determinant of cortical identity. Lhx2 selector activity is restricted to an early critical period when stem cells comprise the cortical neuroepithelium, where it acts cell-autonomously to specify cortical identity and suppress alternative fates in a spatially dependent manner. Laterally, Lhx2 null cells adopt antihem identity, whereas medially they become cortical hem cells, which can induce and organize ectopic hippocampal fields. In addition to providing functional evidence for Lhx2 selector activity, these findings show that the cortical hem is a hippocampal organizer. 相似文献

Chemical composition, iron bioavailability, and antioxidant activity of Kappaphycus alvarezzi (Doty)

Kappaphycus alvarezzi, an edible seaweed from the west coast of India, was analyzed for its chemical composition. It was found that K. alvarezzi is rich in protein (16.24% w/w) and contains a high amount of fiber (29.40% w/w) and carbohydrates (27.4% w/w). K. alvarezzi showed vitamin A activity of 865 mug retinal equivalents/100 g of sample. It contained a higher quantity of unsaturated fatty acids (44.50% of the total), in which relative percentage of oleic acid was 11%, cis-heptadecanoic acid 13.50%, and linoleic acid 2.3% and 37.0% of saturated fatty acids (mainly heptadecanoic acid). K. alvarezziwas also found to be good source of minerals, viz 0.16% of calcium, 0.033% of iron, and 0.016% of zinc, which are essential for various vital biological activities. Bioavailability of iron by in vitro methods showed a higher efficiency in intestinal conditions than in stomach conditions. Ascorbic acid influenced higher bioavailability of iron. Successive extracts of n-hexane, acetone, ethyl acetate, ethanol, and direct extractables of chloroform/methanol (1:1 and 2:1) were screened for antioxidant activity using a beta-carotene linoleic acid model system (B-CLAMS), DPPH (alpha,alpha-diphenyl-beta-picrylhydrazyl) model system and hydroxyl radical scavenging activity. The chloroform/methanol (2:1) extract has shown 82.5% scavenging activity at 1000 ppm. Acetone fraction extracts at the 1000 ppm level showed 63.31% antioxidant activity in beta-carotene linoleic acid system. The acetone extract showed 46.04% scavenging activity at 1000 ppm concentration. In the case of hydroxyl radical scavenging activity, all the extracts showed better activity at the concentrations of 25 and 50 ppm, where at the 50 ppm level ethyl acetate extract showed 76.0%, acetone 75.12%, and hexane 71.15% activity, respectively. Results of this study suggest the utility of K. alvarezzi (Eucheuma) for various nutritional products, including antioxidant for use as health food or nutraceutical supplement. 相似文献

Mastomys natalensis pretreated with diethylcarbamazine (DEC), levamisole or centperazine were exposed to the standard inoculum of infective larvae of Brugia malayi. Percentage 'take' of infection, duration of prepatent period, course of microfilaraemia and number of adult worms recovered were compared with those of untreated infected Mastomys (control). DEC and centperazine did not alter the 'take' (DEC/centperazine: 100%; control: 88.24%) and the average prepatent period (DEC: 105.44 days; centperazine: 105.18 days, control: 109.20 days). In levamisole pretreated animals on the other hand, the 'take' was much lower (68.18%) with extended prepatent period (125.87 days). However, unlike centperazine and control, the course of microfilaraemia was identical in DEC and levamisole pretreated animals. The average adult worm recovery was significantly high in centperazine pretreated animals being 14.09 as against 8.12, 7.46 and 8.42 in DEC, levamisole pretreated and control animals, respectively. 相似文献

The chemotherapeutic efficacy of mebendazole given in combination with Freund's complete adjuvant (FCA) against Brugia malayi in multimammate rat was evaluated. Animals treated with mebendazole, orally at 200 mg/kg x 5 consecutive days along with FCA given subcutaneously (s.c.) on day -10, day 0 and day +15 of the drug treatment killed 48.51% of the adult worms. This drug given alone at the same regimen and by the same route showed only 18.7% mortality rate on adults. Mebendazole given intraperitoneally along with FCA given s.c., however, was four times more efficacious as filaricide than mebendazole alone. Nevertheless, the animals receiving FCA alone also revealed 23.5% mortality rate of adult worms. The animals receiving a combination therapy or FCA alone showed significant increase in antibody titre to the filariae which however decreased in the later stages. No enhancement of antibody level could be detected in animals treated with mebendazole alone. The non-specific immunopotentiation induced by FCA appeared to play a major role in enhancing the activity of mebendazole. 相似文献
