Ketosis is found in various pathophysiological conditions, including diabetes and starvation, that are accompanied by suppression of gonadal activity. The aim of the present study was to determine the role of ketone body in the brain in regulating pulsatile luteinizing hormone (LH) secretion in female rats. Injection of 3-hydroxybutyrate (3HB), a ketone body, into the fourth cerebroventricle (4V) induced suppression of pulsatile LH secretion in a dose-dependent manner in ovariectomized (OVX) rats with an estradiol (E2) implant producing diestrus plasma E2 levels. Plasma glucose and corticosterone levels increased immediately after the 4V 3HB injection, suggesting that the treatment caused a hunger response. The 3HB-induced suppression of LH pulses might be mediated by noradrenergic inputs to the hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus (PVN) because a local injection of α-methyl- p-tyrosine, a catecholamine synthesis inhibitor, into the PVN blocked 3HB-induced suppression of LH pulses and PVN noradrenaline release was increased by 4V 3HB injection in E2-primed OVX rats. These results suggest that ketone body sensed by a central energy sensor in the hindbrain may suppress gonadotropin release via noradrenergic inputs to the PVN under ketosis.  相似文献

 This study deals with the suitable discriminant techniques of wood-based materials by means of near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) and several chemometric analyses. The concept of Mahalanobis' generalized distance, K nearest neighbors (KNN), and soft independent modeling of class analogy (SIMCA) were evaluated to determine the best analytical procedure. The difference in the accuracy of classification with the spectrophotometer, the wavelength range as the explanatory variables, and the light-exposure condition of the sample were examined in detail. It was difficult to apply Mahalanobis' generalized distances to the classification of wood-based materials where NIR spectra varied widely within the sample category. The performance of KNN in the NIR region (800–2500 nm), for which the device used in the laboratory was employed, exhibited a high rate of correct answers of validation (>98%) independent of the light-exposure conditions of the sample. When employing the device used in the field, both KNN and SIMCA revealed correct answers of validation (>88%) at wavelengths of 550–1010 nm. These results suggest the applicability of NIRS to a reasonable classification of used wood at the factory and at job sites. Acute central lipoprivation suppresses pulsatile luteinizing hormone (LH) release and increases blood glucose levels through noradrenergic input to the hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus (PVN) in female rats. The present study was conducted to identify adrenergic receptor subtypes involved in central lipoprivation-induced suppression of pulsatile LH secretion and increases in plasma glucose levels in female rats. Acute hindbrain lipoprivation was produced by injection into the fourth cerebroventricle (4V) of 2-mercaptoacetate (MA), an inhibitor of fatty acid oxidation, in estradiol-implanted ovariectomized rats. Two min before MA injection, alpha1-, alpha2- or beta-adrenergic receptor antagonist was injected into the PVN. Injection of MA into the 4V suppresses pulsatile LH release in PVN vehicle-treated rats, whereas pretreatment of animals with injection of alpha1- or alpha2-adrenergic antagonist into the PVN blocked the effect of the 4V MA injection on LH pulses. beta-Adrenergic antagonist did not affect MA-induced suppression of LH pulses. The counter-regulatory increase in plasma glucose levels after 4V MA injection was also partially blocked by pretreatment with alpha1- and alpha2-adrenergic receptor antagonists. These results suggest that alpha1- and alpha2-adrenergic receptors in the PVN mediate hindbrain lipoprivation-induced suppression of LH release and counter-regulatory increases in plasma glucose levels in female rats.  相似文献

Growth rates of round herring Etrumeus teres, Japanese anchovy Engraulis japonicus, and Japanese sardine Sardinops melanostictus larvae respond differently to seasonal temperature variations in Sagami Bay on the Pacific coast of central Japan. Larvae of these three clupeoid species were collected from small seine net catches between February 2008 and April 2009. Correlations between otolith growth increment widths and ambient temperatures were examined at five body sizes and indexed to otolith radii of 50–175 μm, which corresponded to notochord lengths of 15–24 mm. Round herring larvae showed positive correlations between growth rate and habitat temperature at all five body sizes. In contrast, Japanese sardine larvae did not show significant correlations between growth rate and ambient temperature at any of the five body sizes. Japanese anchovy larvae showed significant but weaker correlations between growth rate and temperature than round herring. Although these three species share habitats with some differences in seasonal occurrence in the bay, they showed different species-specific responses to seasonal habitat temperature variations. These differences in response to temperature variations may constitute an ecological basis for different migration patterns among the three species.  相似文献

There has been no report on Chronic wasting disease (CWD) cases in Japan to date; however, there is concern about the geographic spread of CWD. To clarify the CWD status in Japan, we conducted CWD monitoring using real-time quaking-induced conversion (RT-QuIC) assay which can detect the low level of CWD prions. A total of 690 obex samples collected from sika deer and Reeves’s muntjac in Hokkaido and Honshu was tested for CWD prions. No CWD-positive cases were found, suggesting that CWD is nonexistent in Japan. Our results also indicate that RT-QuIC assay is useful for continuous monitoring of CWD. Furthermore, nucleotide sequence analysis of the PrP gene revealed sika deer in Japan harbor CWD susceptible allele.  相似文献
