We previously reported that extremely low frequency electric fields (ELF-EFs) affect energy metabolism in stressed conditions. To further confirm this, the effect of exposure to ELF-EFs on the experimental ischemic rat was examined. The test was based on a comparison of rats treated with EF alone, ischemic surgery alone, the combination of EF with ischemic surgery, or no treatment (double sham). The EF condition used in this study was an alternating current of 50 Hz EF at 17 500 V/m intensity for 15 min per day. The exposure to EF in ischemic rats significantly decreased plasma levels of free fatty acids and triglycerides, compared to those of the no treatment or EF alone group. The plasma lactate levels of two ischemic groups peaked on experimental day-4 and gradually decreased until the end of the study. The changes in the lactate levels induced by ischemia did not show any difference between rats treated with ischemia alone or a combination of ischemia with an EF. Any changes in plasma levels of glucose and creatine phosphokinase activity were not influenced by EF treatment. These results indicate that the EF effect on glycolysis parameters, plasma lactate or glucose levels, does not appear in a highly stressed condition and that EF effects varied dependent on the condition of organism but ELF-EF used in this study have impact on lipid metabolism parameter in a hind-limb ischemic rat. However, further studies are needed to elucidate the association of ELF-EF with the lipid metabolism system.  相似文献

Telomeres are specialized chromatin structures that protect chromosomal ends. Protection of telomeres 1 (Pot1) binds to the telomeric G-rich overhang, thereby protecting telomeres and regulating telomerase. Mammalian POT1 and TPP1 interact and constitute part of the six-protein shelterin complex. Here we report that Tpz1, the TPP1 homolog in fission yeast, forms a complex with Pot1. Tpz1 binds to Ccq1 and the previously undiscovered protein Poz1 (Pot1-associated in Schizosaccharomyces pombe), which protect telomeres redundantly and regulate telomerase in positive and negative manners, respectively. Thus, the Pot1-Tpz1 complex accomplishes its functions by recruiting effector molecules Ccq1 and Poz1. Moreover, Poz1 bridges Pot1-Tpz1 and Taz1-Rap1, thereby connecting the single-stranded and double-stranded telomeric DNA regions. Such molecular architectures are similar to those of mammalian shelterin, indicating that the overall DNA-protein architecture is conserved across evolution.  相似文献

To clarify the characteristics in stemflow of Japanese cedar (Cryptomeria japonica), we conducted the annual and extensive observation. We examined the chemistry of bulk and wet deposition, throughfall and stemflow at 26 forested sites in June and September 1998. The each sampling site was broadly distributed in all over the Japanese archipelago. The stemflow pH of Japanese cedar was significantly lower (p<0.01) than precipitation and stemflow of broad-leaved species in both months. There were significant anion deficits in stemflow of Japanese cedar, suggesting that organic anions derived from plant sources play an important role in the stemflow acidity. Our results suggested that the strong stemflow acidity in Japanese cedar was derived from an internal biological characteristic rather than influences of external acidic deposition.  相似文献

We examined the effect of zeatin on the formation of shoot buds from explants and callus tissues derived from stem segments of Actinidia polygama Miq. (matatabi or silver vine). Stem and petiole segments cultured on combined broad-leaved tree medium and woody plant medium (BW medium) supplemented with zeatin for 40 days formed many shoot buds. Callus tissues derived from the stem segments and subcultured on BW medium supplemented with 6-benzyladenine and 1-naphthaleneacetic acid formed shoot buds when the medium contained 13.7µM zeatin. BW medium containing low concentrations of sucrose strongly induced the formation of shoot buds from the callus.  相似文献

We examined factors that affect egg distributions of amphibians, which are currently declining globally, in urban areas. We counted the number of egg masses of two amphibian species (Hynobius retardatus and Rana pirica) in ponds in urban green spaces during two years (2011 and 2012) and investigated the effects of local and landscape factors on them. Forest area in green spaces and pond area had positive effects, and distance from continuous forests in the suburbs and the rate of pond shore protection had negative effects on the number of eggs. Among these factors, distance from continuous forests and pond area had strong effects on egg distributions. These results suggest the importance of water habitat size and the need for colonization by amphibians from surrounding continuous forests. To conserve urban amphibian assemblages, the preservation of ponds with sufficient area and continuous forests close to urban habitats would be important.  相似文献

To predict the performance of coppice forests with Japanese oak (Quercus mongolica var. crispula) in future changing environment, we studied the growth, photosynthesis, and powdery mildew (Erysiphe alphitoides) infection of sprouts of Japanese oak under free-air CO2 enrichment. Elevated CO2 reduced powdery mildew infection in both leaves of the shoot emerged in spring (1st flush) and the lammas and proleptic shoots (2nd flush) of sprouts. We observed significant increase in the net photosynthetic rate at growth CO2 concentration (i.e., 370 and 500 μmol mol?1 for ambient and elevated CO2 treatments, respectively) in both 1st and 2nd flush leaves of sprouts grown under elevated CO2. On the other hand, no significant increase in net photosynthetic rate under elevated CO2 was found before cutting. The photosynthetic activity of 2nd flush leaves in the sprouts under ambient condition was greatly reduced by severe infection to powdery mildew. Growth of sprouts was enhanced in the elevated CO2 condition. We conclude the growth enhancement in Japanese oak sprouts under elevated CO2 in the present study was achieved not only by physiological response (i.e., photosynthetic stimulation) but also by disease interaction.  相似文献
