The objective of this study was to find alternative methods for the control of pericarp browning in longan fruits (Dimocarpus longan Lour.) cv. Daw in order to replace the use of sulfur dioxide (SO2). Experiments were conducted by dipping fruits in 1.5 N HCl solution (pH 0.21) for 20 min followed by draining. The effects of subsequent rinsing in water were also investigated. Untreated fruits and SO2 fumigated fruits were used as controls. Fruits from each treatment were then packaged in commercial perforated plastic baskets and stored at 3 ± 1 °C, 85% RH for 60 days. It was found that dipping the fruits in HCl controlled disease development compared with the untreated fruits. In addition, dipping the fruits in HCl as well as fumigating with SO2 gave the best control of pericarp browning. After 5 days, the pericarp of untreated fruits became brown. Dipping fruits in HCl without rinsing reduced pericarp and juice pH and increased titratable acidity which lowered eating quality. Sensory analysis was carried out to determine aril color as well as appearance, firmness, flavor and taste. Dipping in 1.5 N HCl for 20 min and rinsing exhibited higher efficacy than dipping for 0, 10 or 15 min in controlling fruit decay and maintaining fruit color and eating qualities during 7 days storage at 25 °C following 45 days storage at 5 ± 1 °C. Therefore, dipping in 1.5 N HCl for 20 min, followed by rinsing in water can be considered for commercial application in extending shelf life, decreasing fruit decay and maintaining fruit quality of longan fruits. 相似文献

Surface and subsurface horizons of 16 representative sugarcane growing soils with varying soil properties in the eastern region of Thailand were collected to determine the potassium (K) fertility status and its availability by using the quantity/intensity relationship (potential buffering capacity of K (PBCk)). The results showed that most soils had a low K fertility status and lack of reserved K from K-bearing minerals. The PBCk values of the studied soils ranged from 3.75 to 168 cmol kg?1/(mol L?1)1/2, and the coarse-textured soil group showed much lower PBCk values; these results suggested a low capability of these soils to replenish K removal by plant uptake compared with that of the fine-textured soil group. The negative delta K (ΔK°) values of the coarse-textured soil group also indicated a large quantity of readily available K for plant uptake that easily leaches at the same time. The higher K activity ratio (ARke) of the coarse-textured soil group (>0.001 mol L?1)1/2) than that of the fine-textured soil group (<0.001 mol L?1)1/2) suggested that readily available K was desorbed from the non-specific sites of 1:1 clay minerals and specific sites of 2:1 clay minerals, respectively. The ΔK° value of the studied soils was more significantly correlated to K concentration in sugarcane stalks (R2 = 0.64) than that of readily available K content (R2 = 0.54). Therefore, the results of this study suggested that ΔK° represents a better parameter to estimate K availability in these soils compared to conventional ammonium acetate (NH4OAc)-extractable K content. 相似文献

Four new sesquiterpene lactones (3, 4, 6 and 7) and three known compounds, purpuride (1), berkedrimane B (2) and purpuride B (5), were isolated from the marine fungus, Talaromyces minioluteus (Penicillium minioluteum). New compounds were drimane sesquiterpenes conjugated with N-acetyl-l-valine, and their structures were elucidated by analysis of spectroscopic data, as well as by single crystal X-ray analysis. The isolated compounds could not inhibit the apoptosis-regulating enzyme, caspase-3, while three of the compounds (2, 3 and 7) exhibited weak cytotoxic activity. 相似文献
