Biogas production generates digested slurry as a byproduct. It can be used as a fertilizer especially after its conversion into digested liquid. A pot based study was conducted in order to evaluate the effect of the application of digested liquid on CH4 and N2O flux, and plant biomass in paddy. Analysis revealed that digested liquid treated soils released more CH4 compared to ammonium sulphate and the control. Ammonium sulphate treated soil emitted the highest N20 whereas digested liquid application decreased its emission significantly. Further, the cumulative emission over 101 d of the experiment was found to be higher for CHa (16.9 to 29.9 g m^-2) compared to N20 (-49.3 to 18.9 mg m^-2) for all treatments. Digested liquid application had positive impact on plant variables such as panicle number and weight of panicles. This study suggests that digested liquid application significantly decrease N20 emission and increase CH4 emission possibly due to affecting the availability of organic C in the soil to microbial activity for methanogenesis. Another possibility for enhancing CH4 emission by following biogas digested liquid could be attributed to the increase in plant biomass.  相似文献

The influence of tillage treatment and the time of crust formation after planting on the degree of surface crusting and seedling emergence of soybean (Glycine max L. Merr.), planted on the flat and on ridges, are described. Crusts were developed artificially at specific times after planting. Under non-crusted conditions (control), more rapid drying of the soil in the seed zone occurred in conventionally-tilled, ridge-planted (Tcr) and minimum-tilled, flat-planted (Tmf) seedbeds compared with excessively and conventionally-tilled, flat-planted (Tef and Tcf) seedbeds. The formation of surface crusts induced a reduction in moisture loss from the seed zone. On drying, large crust blocks with a smooth surface developed in Tef plots whereas, in Tmf plots, small crust blocks with a rough surface appeared. Both the rate of emergence and the ultimate emergence of soybeans were in the order Tef > Tcf > Tcr > Tmf under non-crusted conditions and, on average, in the order Tcr > Tcf > Tef > Tmf under crusted conditions. Crusts which formed within two days of sowing were more injurious because these were hard and impenetrable, and were present at the normal time of seedling emergence. Crusts induced 72 h after planting had less effect on seedling emergence because, by the time they could form, emergence was already almost completed.  相似文献

The response of sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L.) to moisture stress during the post-rainy season was studied at ICRISAT research center on a medium deep Alfisol using a line source sprinkler irrigation system. Changes in soil moisture content, stomatal conductance, leaf-water potential and leaf temperature of sorghum as a function of distance away from the line source sprinkler system were monitored throughout the season. Use of the line source technique facilitated the imposition of a range of moisture stress levels as indicated by increased water use by sorghum closer to the line source compared with the crop farther away from the line source. Canopy response measured in terms of stomatal conductance, leaf-water potential, and leaf temperature clearly reflected the gradient in moisture stress perpendicular to the line source.  相似文献

Sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench] is a very important crop in the arid and semi-arid tropics of India and African subcontinent. In the process of release of new cultivars using multi-location data major emphasis is being given on the superiority of the new cultivars over the ruling cultivars, while very less importance is being given on the genotype?×?environment interaction (GEI). In the present study, performance of ten Indian hybrids over 12 locations across the rainy seasons of 2008 and 2009 was investigated using GGE biplot analysis. Location attributed higher proportion of the variation in the data (59.3–89.9%), while genotype contributed only 3.9–16.8% of total variation. Genotype?×?location interaction contributed 5.8–25.7% of total variation. We could identify superior hybrids for grain yield, fodder yield and for harvest index using biplot graphical approach effectively. Majority of the testing locations were highly correlated. ‘Which-won-where’ study partitioned the testing locations into three mega-environments: first with eight locations with SPH 1606/1609 as the winning genotypes; second mega-environment encompassed three locations with SPH 1596 as the winning genotype, and last mega-environment represented by only one location with SPH 1603 as the winning genotype. This clearly indicates that though the testing is being conducted in many locations, similar conclusions can be drawn from one or two representatives of each mega-environment. We did not observe any correlation of these mega-environments to their geographical locations. Existence of extensive crossover GEI clearly suggests that efforts are necessary to identify location-specific genotypes over multi-year and -location data for release of hybrids and varieties rather focusing on overall performance of the entries.  相似文献

Purpose

Biochars produced from different feedstocks (such as wood, pig manure) possess varying physical and chemical properties, which have influence on crack and evaporation rate of biochar-amended soil (BAS). Furthermore, influence of compaction state and drying-wetting cycles on evaporation rate and cracking of BAS has not been investigated comprehensively. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of biochar types, compaction state of BAS, and drying-wetting cycles on crack propagation and retained water (or evaporation rate).

Material and methods

An animal and plant feedstock-based biochars were produced in-house from pig manure (PM) and wood (W), respectively. In addition, nano structured chalk and wheat biochar (CWB) were also produced. Soil amended with individual biochars was compacted in petri-glass discs at two densities. Disc specimens were subjected to multiple drying-wetting cycles, and evaporation rate of specimens and crack area were monitored throughout the experimental period (70 days). Images were captured after every 24 h and processed using image processing technique to obtain the crack intensity factor (CIF).

Results and discussion

The results show that plant-based W BAS showed the high water retention, i.e., low evaporation rate and low CIF. Furthermore, the crack potential of CW BAS was seen to be higher. In dense compacted soil, maximum CIF% can be reduced from 3.9 to 0.4% for W BAS, from 3.9 to 1.7% for PM BAS, and from 3.9 to 1.6% for CW BAS.

Conclusion

WB was able to resist cracking more efficiently than other types of biochar. Evaporation was found to be minimal for plant-based W BAS at 10% biochar percentage. Higher biochar content in soil was seen to increase the water retention of BAS significantly. Dense state of BAS at high biochar content (i.e., 10%) was effective in reducing evaporation rate and crack progression.

Background:

Lower respiratory tract infections (LTRIs) are among the most common infectious diseases with potential life-threatening complications.

Methods:

The study consisted of 426 patients with suspected LTRIs from mid and far western region of Nepal between September 2011 and July 2014. The specimens were collected and processed according to the standard microbiological methods at the Central Laboratory of Microbiology of Nepalgunj Medical College, Nepal.

Results:

Among the isolated Gram-positive organisms, Streptococcus pneumonia (n = 30, 51.7%) was the most predominant pathogen, followed by Staphylococcus aureus (n = 28, 48.3%). Among the isolated Gram-negative organisms, Pseudomonas aeruginosa (n = 71, 35.32%) was the most predominant pathogen, followed by Haemophilus influenzae (n = 68, 33.83%), Klebsiella pneumonia (n = 36, 17.19%), and Escherichia coli (n = 26, 12.94%). The pattern of resistance varied regarding the bacteria species, and there were multi-resistant isolates. Also, a significant difference (P < 0.05) was observed between males and females for each type of bacterial species. Among 259 isolates, 86 (33.20%) were from children aged 1-10 years, which were statistically significant (P < 0.05) compared to the other age groups.

Conclusions:

P. aeruginosa and H. influenzae (Gram-negative) and S. pnemoniae (Gram-positive) were the most common bacterial isolates recovered from LTRIs. Age group of 1-10 years old was at a higher risk. Many isolates showed appreciable levels of antibiotic resistance due to antibiotic abuse. There is a need to increase surveillance and develop better strategies to curb the increasing prevalence of LRTI in this region of Nepal.Key Words: Bacterial infections, Antimicrobial drug resistance, Respiratory system, Nepal  相似文献

Foot and mouth disease (FMD) is the most contagious disease of mammals and a major threat to animal husbandry sector. In India, vaccination with the inactivated trivalent (O, A and Asia1) vaccine is one proven way for protecting the livestock from FMD. However, many outbreaks have been reported in different parts of the country. Therefore, present study was aimed at elucidating the effects of genetic and non-genetic factors on FMD viral vaccine-elicited immune response in Hardhenu cattle. The effect of season of vaccination was not consistent. The effect of status of animal was significant for all the pre and post AB titres except for pre AB titre of serotype O and post AB titre of Asia1.The estimates of heritability for response to vaccination were low to high ranging from 0.11 to 0.45. The highest heritability estimate was obtained for serotype O and the lowest for Asia1. The heritability estimates for pre and post AB titres ranged from 0.15 to 0.33. All the pre and post AB titres and responses to vaccination had genetic correlations ranged from high negative to high positive among them. Results of this study highlight the variation in vaccine response which needs to be further exploited on large-scale animal data for better immunization and protection against highly contagious viral vesicular disease of cloven-hoofed animals.  相似文献

An experiment was conducted under simulated condition to study the influence of vermicompost on growth, yield and heavy metal accumulation by chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla), an important essential oil bearing crop grown under simulated condition. Nickel and Cadmium applied at 20?mg?kg?1 soil significantly enhanced the dry matter yield of the crop as compared to the control (no heavy metal). The results also revealed that addition of vermicompost (at 2.5?g?kg?1 soil) enhanced the heavy metal accumulation by chamomile in metal-treated soil. Although a sizeable amount of metals were being translocated to flowers, the essential oil extracted by hydrodistillation of flowers did not contain any heavy metal. Similarly, chemical constituents of the oil of chamomile were within the range of those obtained from chamomile grown under normal soil condition.  相似文献
