Wet-only rainwater composition on a weekly basis was determined at four sites in West Java, Indonesia, from June 1991 to June 1992. Three sites were near the extreme western end of Java, surrounding a coal-fired power station at Suralaya. The fourth site was ~100 km to the east in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta. Over the 12 months study period wet deposition of sulfate at the three western sites varied between 32–46 meq m?2 while nitrate varied between 10–14 meq m?2. Wet deposition at the Jakarta site was systematically higher, at 56 meq m?2 for sulfate and 20 meq m?2 for nitrate. Since sulfate and nitrate wet deposition fluxes in the nearby and relatively unpopulated regions of tropical Australia are both only ~5 meq m?2 anthropogenic emissions of S and N apparently cause significant atmospheric acidification in Java. It is possible that total acid deposition fluxes (of S and N) in parts of Java are comparable with those responsible for environmental degradation in acid-sensitive parts of Europe and North America.  相似文献

A trienzyme treatment (protease, alpha-amylase, and human plasma conjugase), followed by purification using SPE with SAX cartridges and reversed-phase HPLC with UV-PDA detection, was performed for determination of the distribution of various folate forms and content at various stages of tempe preparation. The major folate form in soybean identified was 5-formyl tetrahydrofolate (5-CHO-H4folate), followed by 10-formyl tetrahydrofolate (10-CHO-PGA), and 5-methyl tetrahydrofolate (5-CH3-H4folate), whereas folic acid was not detected and tetrahydrofolic acid (H4folate) was not detectable. The most predominant form in tempe was also 5-CHO-H4folate, followed by 10-CHO-PGA, whereas the quantities of 5-CH3-H4folate and folic acid were negligible. Quantities and retention of folate significantly decreased during the first boiling, dehulling, soaking, and second boiling procedures, yielding folate retention of 32%. A remarkable increase in folate content was found after fermentation, 5.2-fold higher than that of the boiled soybean. This may be due to de novo formation of folate by Rhizopus oligosporus, the principal mold in tempe fermentation. HPLC results were approximately 38-55% lower than the values obtained from the microbiological assay using Lactobacillus casei.  相似文献

A 3-yr study was conducted in North Sumatra, Indonesia, as part of an evaluation of the feasibility of integrating sheep and rubber production. The objective was to evaluate the effects of increasing energy supplementation on reproduction and other performance criteria of Javanese Thin-Tail sheep grazing volunteer forages under 8- and 14-yr-old rubber trees. The control group was unsupplemented. The medium group was supplemented with high-energy feeds at 1% of the flock body weight, with the low and high groups receiving 60% or 140% of the daily energy provided by the medium group diet. Supplements provided 1.2 g protein per kilogram BW. There were 158 lambs born to the 152 ewes in the 1st year of the study. Preweaning mortality rates of lambs were reduced (P less than .01) with supplementation (45 vs 12, 3 and 12% for the control, low, medium and high groups, respectively). During the 3 yr, litter size was higher (P less than .01) in the high group (1.33, 1.31 and 1.34 vs 1.71 for ewes on the four respective diets). Observed repeatability of litter size of individual ewes in all treatment groups for the first three parities was higher (P less than .01) than would be expected if litter size were a random event. Of the lambs born in the 1st yr, kilograms of lamb weaned per ewe joined were 3.1, 7.8, 7.3 and 9.8. At prevailing prices, only the high supplement level was profitable compared to the control. For the high group, the added return from the sale of lambs born the 1st yr was 120% of the added cost of supplementing the ewes until all the lambs were weaned (15 mo). Response of sheep to the high level of energy supplementation, especially with regard to litter size, indicates that supplementing sheep grazing in rubber plantations at a high level can be profitable.  相似文献

Quantification of soil greenhouse gas emissions requires considerable sampling to account for spatial and/or temporal variation. With manual sampling, additional personnel are often not available to sample multiple sites within a narrow time interval. The objectives were to construct an automatic gas sampler and to compare the accuracy and precision of automatic versus manual sampling. The automatic sampler was tested with carbon dioxide (CO2) fluxes that mimicked the range of CO2 fluxes during a typical corn-growing season in eastern Nebraska. Gas samples were drawn from the chamber at 0, 5, and 10 min manually and with the automatic sampler. The three samples drawn with the automatic sampler were transferred to pre-vacuumed vials after 1 h; thus the samples in syringe barrels stayed connected with the increasing CO2 concentration in the chamber. The automatic sampler sustains accuracy and precision in greenhouse gas sampling while improving time efficiency and reducing labor stress.  相似文献

Since 1991, the sudden death of cultivated banana plants has been widely observed in the southern region of Sumatra Island, Indonesia. Wilting from loss of petiole and midrib turgidity, yellowing, and necrosis of leaves was followed by death of the whole plant. Reddish brown bacterial ooze exuded from the cut surface of infected pseudostems and fruits. The colony appearance of the isolated bacterium was similar to that of Ralstonia solanacearum. The bacterium was pathogenic to banana plants but not to tomato. Its bacteriological properties agreed with those of blood disease bacterium (BDB) of banana described previously. The 16S rDNA sequence of strain Banana E had conserved bases characteristic of BDB. Based on these results, the causal agent was identified as BDB, which is a close relative of Ralstonia. The isolates have resistance against antibiotics, such as chloramphenicol and tetracycline.The nucleotide sequence data reported are available in the DDBJ/EMBL/GenBank databases under the accession number AB095535  相似文献

Soil fauna play critical roles in various ecosystem functions and services, but empirical data measuring their impact on dung pat decomposition and subsequent nutrient cycling into rangeland soils are limited. The objective of this study was to quantify the effect of soil fauna, using dung beetle as an indicator, on dung decomposition and subsequent translocation of dung nutrients into grassland soil over time. A field experiment was conducted early in the summer season and late in the summer season of 2014 and 2015. In each season, dung beetle abundance, changes in dung properties, and subsequent translocation of dung nutrients into soils were evaluated at 1, 3, 7, 14, 28, and 56 d after placement (DAPs) of exposed dung and nonexposed dung to beetles. Analysis of no-dung control soil was included for comparison. Dung beetles contributed 7% and 4% in the losses of dung moisture and dry matter (DM), respectively; however, dung beetles had no effect on dung pat nutrients. Losses of dung nutrients—42% of water-extractable organic carbon, 46% of water-extractable phosphorus, and 65% of NH4—occurred during the first 14 DAPs. Dung beetles increased soil nutrients in the top 10-cm depth beneath the dung. No effect of beetles was observed in deeper (> 10-cm) soil depth or in soil 30 cm away from the dung. This study concluded that soil fauna, such as dung beetles, accelerated dung moisture and DM losses and subsequent nutrient increase into the top 10 cm of soil.  相似文献

This study aims to assess the performance of a low‐cost, micro‐electromechanical system‐based, near infrared spectrometer for soil organic carbon (OC) and total carbon (TC) estimation. TC was measured on 151 soil profiles up to the depth of 1 m in NSW, Australia, and from which a subset of 24 soil profiles were measured for OC. Two commercial spectrometers including the AgriSpecTM (ASD) and NeoSpectraTM (Neospectra) with spectral wavelength ranges of 350–2,500 and 1,300–2,500 nm, respectively, were used to scan the soil samples, according to the standard contact probe protocol. Savitzky–Golay smoothing filter and standard normal variate (SNV) transformation were performed on the spectral data for noise reduction and baseline correction. Three calibration models, including Cubist tree model, partial least squares regression (PLSR) and support vector machine (SVM), were assessed for the prediction of soil OC and TC using spectral data. A 10‐fold cross‐validation analysis was performed for evaluation of the models and devices accuracies. Results showed that Cubist model predicts OC and TC more accurately than PLSR and SVM. For OC prediction, Cubist showed R2 = 0.89 (RMSE = 0.12%) and R2 = 0.78 (RMSE = 0.16%) using ASD and NeoSpectra, respectively. For TC prediction, Cubist produced R2 = 0.75 (RMSE = 0.45%) and R2 = 0.70 (RMSE = 0.50%) using ASD and NeoSpectra, respectively. ASD performed better than NeoSpectra. However, the low‐cost NeoSpectra predictions were comparable to the ASD. These finding can be helpful for more efficient future spectroscopic prediction of soil OC and TC with less costly devices.  相似文献

Understanding tillage system interaction with landscape variability is important in prescribing appropriate tillage systems that are profitable and environmentally sound. A three-year (1997–1999) study was conducted on a gently sloping, poorly drained lacustrine landscape to evaluate tillage, landscape, and soil interactions on grain yield. Tillage systems investigated were a reduced tillage (RT) system [no-tillage after soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr), fall chisel plowing after corn (Zea mays (L.) var. mays)], and a conventional tillage (CT) system (fall chisel plowing after soybean and fall moldboard plowing after corn). Fall primary tillage was followed with a pre-plant field cultivation in the spring. Runoff and pollutant losses from the two tillage systems were also measured under a 63 mm h–1 simulated rainfall. Runoff and pollutant (total solids, chemical oxygen demand, total P, dissolved molybdate reactive P) losses were similar, or lower (6.6, 8.0, 7.7, 5.5, and 4.1 times, respectively) in the RT than the CT system. Tillage system, landscape elevation, and soil type interactions on crop yield varied depending upon whether it was a wet or dry growing season. Using the interactions, soybean yield differences among the modeled fixed-RT, fixed-CT, and variable tillage (VT) systems in a wet year were less than 0.1 Mg ha–1. During a dry year, corn yield was higher in the RT and the VT systems than in the CT system. When no new purchase of tillage equipment(s) is necessary to implement the RT, VT, or CT system, the modest yield benefits during relatively dry years, plus the improved runoff water quality by using reduced tillage system in all or part of the landscape, would justify the use of RT and VT systems over the CT system in the lacustrine landscape.  相似文献
