With the help of the public, a wide collection of old apple cultivars (cvs) was established progressively at our Department from 1975 onwards. Currently, more than 1400 apple accessions are being maintained and three quarters of them are subjected to field evaluation for disease resistance and agronomic characters. This paper presents results of the ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) contents of old cvs combining interesting disease resistance and agronomic features in order to promote them as cvs adapted to production systems which are more environmentally friendly or to be used as parents in breeding programmes. First, a methodological study shows the importance of the variability of ascorbic acid content depending on fruit position in the trees, fruit size, fruit skin colour and maturity stage. Statistical analyses show that the sample size of six fruits per cv is sufficient to detect a difference of 20% between cvs. Old apple cvs such as GrenadierRGF, Transparente de Croncels, Bramley’s Seedling, Reinette des Capucins, Reinette Libotte and Reinette de Waleffe contain three and seven times more ascorbic acid than the commercial cvs Gala and Elstar, respectively. The paper highlights the need to evaluate the rich potential in our genetic resources.  相似文献

The suitability of different protocols was compared for entire plant regeneration by somatic embryogenesis, of the forage plants Lolium multiflorum Lam. (Italian ryegrass) and Festuca arundinacea Schreb. (tall fescue). In the first protocol, miniature embryos were used as starting material, while mature seeds were retained in the other two. Whichever the considered protocol, undifferentiated calli were produced on Murashige and Skoog MS medium supplemented with 2,4-D. The calli were subcultured in the dark on solid MS agar medium, containing 5 mg/1 2,4-D (protocol 2) or on solid MS medium followed by transfer to a rotated liquid MS medium with 2 mg/1 2,4-D (protocol 1). In these conditions, induction of somatic embryogenesis occurred, and whole plants were regenerated during a limited lapse of time, upon transfer in the light, to MS medium supplemented with BAP but devoid of 2,4-D. The simultaneous elimination of 2,4-D and transfer to light appeared essential for full regeneration of the plants. Using this characteristic, an additional step was added to a new protocol (protocol 3) in which microcalli, cultured on liquid MS medium containing 5 mg/1 2,4-D, were transferred to the same medium with 2 mg/1 2,4-D, in the dark. In these conditions, the suspensions kept their embryogenic potential for months. In all cases, plantlets were successfully transferred into the soil. An evaluation of the somaclonal variation potential of the plants issued from each protocol is now underway.  相似文献

Summary The photosynthetic characteristics of the penultimate leaf in barley genotypes (reciprocal F1 combinations and varieties) were studied at the flowering stage in order to analyze the relationship between these traits and the biological yield and the economic yield. The biological yield was correlated with the leaf area whereas the economic yield was more dependent on the green area duration of the leaf or the combination of the two factors, leaf area and green area duration. The net photosynthesis per unit leaf area, determined at anthesis, was not a factor of productivity. On the other hand, the chlorophyll fluorescence (P), which was negatively correlated with the leaf area (+0.5) and with the combination of leaf area and green area duration (+0.5), was found to be a good marker of the economic yield. In view of its high heritability, it may provide an effective selection criterion.  相似文献

Soil crusting and infiltration on steep slopes in northern Thailand   总被引:13,自引:0,他引:13  
Predicting the rate at which rain infiltrates on steep slopes is very uncertain. There is no consistent information in the literature. We have therefore related infiltrability to slope gradient under field conditions by experimenting on a gravelly loamy soil occupying the upper half of a cultivated convex hill in northern Thailand. Fifteen 1 m × 1 m plots with slope gradients ranging from 16 to 63% were established, and simulated rain was allowed to fall on them at controlled rates and for fixed times. We obtained the following results. The surface fell 0.4–7.2 mm due to compaction and soil loss. The proportions of crust (0–40%) and embedded gravel (10–60%), the runoff coefficient (0.05–0.78 mm mm?1), the mean sediment concentrations (0–5.6 g l?1), and soil detachment (10–313 g m?2) were more pronounced on the gentle slopes than on the steep ones. The steady final infiltration rate (1–107 mm hour?1) increased sharply with increasing slope gradient. Microaggregates tended to behave like sand and become tightly packed on gentle slopes (packing crust). These results suggest that the vertical component of kinetic energy, which is greater on gentle slopes, has a dominant role. Nevertheless, the differences in compaction and in sediment concentration could not be ascribed to the vertical component of kinetic energy alone. On steep slopes the horizontal component of the kinetic energy is transformed into shear stress, hampering the development of crusts so that water can still infiltrate. On steeper slopes, the water film was thinner, thereby limiting the role of splash. We conclude that the relationship between slope gradient and infiltrability depends on the nature of the soil and must be examined in the light of surface crusting processes.  相似文献

Given the high importance of an accurate detection for quarantine plant pathogens, and the risk of false positive or false negative results, a detection method must be correctly validated. A statistical procedure has been developed to determine the cycle cut off and the corresponding limit of detection in real-time PCR, considering a risk of false positive results of 1% and a probability of detection of 95%. The procedure presented in this paper is easy to develop and can be applied to any plant pathogen to be detected by real-time PCR.  相似文献

In this study we investigated the quantitative and qualitative aspects of soil organic matter (SOM) losses caused by water erosion within a small catchment in Northern Laos, under steep slopes and slash and burn agriculture. The soils in the region have a high contribution of black carbon to soil organic matter and high erosion rates. The aim of the study was to quantify the erosion of black carbon and to identify the processes involved. The conceptual approach included the measurement of contents of SOM, black carbon and mineral bound SOM in bulk soils, sediments eroded from 1 m2 plots and in sediments at the outlet of the 0.6 ha catchment. Additionally, the enrichment factors of bulk SOM, BC and mineral bound SOM were calculated for eroded sediments.  相似文献

Summary The responses of six wheat genotypes to water stress were analysed. Soil moisture (H), leaf water potential (w), photosynthesis (PN), stomatal resistance (rs) and transpiration (T) were measured during a water stress. The genotypes investigated differed in their stress avoidance (w-H relationship) and their stress tolerance (PN-w and rs-w relationships). The most important differences observed concern the mechanisms of tolerance at low leaf water potential: two varieties, Haurani 27 and Baalback, can then maintain a high photosynthetic activity. These observations are in agreement with the drought resistance characteristics already known for these genotypes. Possible applications to wheat breeding are considered  相似文献

The pathogenicity of 99 Belgian Pseudomonas syringae strains representative of the genetic diversity encountered in Belgian fruit orchards was evaluated by using 17 pathogenicity tests conducted on pear, cherry, plum, lilac, sugar beet and wheat. The P. syringae pv. morsprunorum strains were pathogenic to stone fruit species but the race 1 strains possessing the cfl gene involved in coronatine production were pathogenic in more tests than those lacking the gene. Also, sweet cherry twigs were a better material to detect pathogenic strains of race 1 and sour cherry twigs of race 2, which accorded with race 2 presence in sour cherry orchards in Belgium. Three groups were defined in the pv. syringae based on pathogenicity. One group pathogenic in 71.1% of the tests and to lilac included toxic lipodesipeptide-producing (TLP+) strains. The second group pathogenic in 26.8% of the tests and non-pathogenic to lilac included TLP+ strains. The thirth group pathogenic in 9.1% of the tests and almost specifically pathogenic to pear included TLP− strains. The three groups were genetically heterogeneous. Although strain-host relationships were noted within the pv. syringae, aptata and atrofaciens when considering the strain origins, such relationships were not found in the pathogenicity tests, suggesting that pathogenicity tests could probably not reproduce all the aspects of the host-pathogen interactions. None of the pathogenicity tests was able to provide all the information provided by the complete study. A test on pear buds indicated that strains different from the pv. syringae were pathogenic to pear.  相似文献

Summary Net photosynthesis, transpiration, and resistances to CO2 and water vapour transfer of two cultivars of each of four types (Triticum durum, Triticum aestivum. hexaploid Triticale, octaploid Triticale) were analysed. Hexaploid triticales have the highest net photosynthesis and the best water efficiency. Water efficiency was defined by the CER/transpiration ratio measured under saturating irradiance corresponding to full stomatal opening. Cultivated bread and durum wheat cultivars (Capitole, Champlein, Bidi 17) are characterised by a low CER associated with a large flag leaf area and a high mesophyll resistance. There is a close correlation between CER., flag leaf area, mesophyll resistance and total chlorophyll content.  相似文献
