A retrospective analysis of the metabolizable energy (ME) intake of privately owned pet cats from the authors’ nutrition consultation practice (years 2007–2011) was carried out to test whether current recommendations are suitable for pet cats. Data of 80 adult cats (median age: 9.0 years, median deviation from ideal weight: +22.5%, majority neutered) at maintenance were available. Six percentage of the cats were healthy and the others were affected by various chronic diseases. A standardized questionnaire was used, cat owners weighed cat and food. For ration calculation, the software Diet Check Munich? was used (ME prediction according to National Research Council, 2006: Nutrient Requirements of Dogs and Cats. National Academy Press, Washington, DC). Data were analysed for the factors deviation from ideal weight, breed, age, gender, disease and type of feeding [prepared food (dry, wet) vs. home‐made]. Over‐ or underweight were defined as ≥15% deviation from ideal body weight (BW) according to Kienzle and Moik (British Journal of Nutrition 2011, 106, Suppl 1: S113). Cat owner's estimation of ideal BW was higher than literature data from Kienzle and Moik (2011). Based on literature data, 26.3% of the pet cats were normal weight, 63.7% overweight and 10% underweight. The mean ME intake of all adult cats amounted to 0.40 ± 0.14 MJ/kg actual BW0.67 (n = 80). When the data were analysed according to normal, over‐ and underweight, there was a significant effect with normal weight cats eating 0.46 MJ/kg BW0.67. Underweight cats ate even more (0.49 MJ/kg BW0.67), whereas overweight cats ate considerably less (0.36 MJ/kg BW0.67). The other factors had no influence on ME intake of adult cats.  相似文献

目的:探讨瘦身健身运动处方锻炼对超重、肥胖大学生身体的影响。方法:24名超重、肥胖大学生在课外体育活动中按瘦身健身运动处方坚持锻炼8周(每周3次,每次40min).测定实验者身体形态指标和机能指标。结果:锻炼后不仅能减轻实验者体重,降低脂肪含量,改善体形和身体成分,还能保持瘦体重.提高身体素质.增强心功能。结论:大学生可以根据自身的体形与体质特点选择有针对性的瘦身健身运动处方进行锻炼。  相似文献

Animal immunity is usually impaired in obesity. We know little about the effect of being overweight or obese on the immune function of wild rodents. The present study is aimed to test the hypothesis that immunity is suppressed in overweight Mongolian gerbils (Meriones unguiculatus). In the study, 16 overweight (body mass: 90.8–127.6 g) and 16 lean gerbils (body mass: 60.5–77.7 g) were randomly selected from a total of 174 male gerbils (body mass range: 55.8–144.7 g). Half of the overweight and lean males were injected with sterile saline; the others were immunochallenged (IC) with phytohaemagglutinin and keyhole limpet hemocyanin to assess cellular and humoral immunity, respectively. Body fat mass, wet and dry spleen mass, leukocyte counts, blood glucose levels and serum leptin levels were significantly higher in the overweight gerbils than in the lean gerbils. However, phytohemagglutinin response indicative of cellular immunity and immunoglobulin G concentrations was significantly lower in the IC overweight gerbils than in the IC lean gerbils. These results indicate that cellular and humoral immunity are impaired in the overweight gerbils. Excessive body fat mass, higher leukocyte counts and serum leptin levels imply that overweight gerbils are in a low grade inflammatory state.  相似文献

In growing dogs, overweight is assimilated and attributed to a fast growth rate. Proper nutrition plays a very important role during growth as mistakes in feeding may lead to severe disease. This case report is an example for excessive weight gain during growth that, particularly in large breed dogs, may lead to skeletal disorders such as improper alignments of the limbs. If body weight gain exceeds the ideal range of the individual growth curve (by initially 4 kg in this case), fast growth may lead to growth disturbances and associated chronic diseases. These cases require a dietary adaption. However, the success in the nutritional management of the body weight relies largely on the owner's compliance.  相似文献

Previous literature has demonstrated that low-income people are more likely to settle for poor health choices in developed countries. By using income as a budget constraint and signal for future wellbeing in a life-course utility model, we examine the association amongst income and overweight. The data used for this study are from the China Health and Nutrition Survey(CHNS). Estimations are conducted for overweight initiation, cessation, and participation mirroring a decision to begin and a past decision to not terminate. Our findings propose that body weight and the likelihood of overweight commencement rise with additional income but at a diminishing degree, representing a concave relation; while the likelihood of overweight discontinuance declines with additional income but at an accelerating degree, suggesting a convex relation.We presume that, as opposed to developed countries, low-income people are less inclined to be overweight in China, a country in transition. This could be explained by an income constraint for unhealthy foodstuff. Nevertheless, it will switch when income surpasses the critical threshold of the concave or inverted U-shape curve indicating that low-income people appear to receive not as much utility from future health. Specifically, this adjustment seems to occur earlier for females and inhabitants of urban areas.  相似文献

A post hoc analysis of the metabolizable energy (ME) intake of privately owned pet dogs from the authors' nutrition consultation practice (Years 2007–2011) was carried out to identify if current ME recommendations are suitable for pet dogs. Data on 586 adult dogs were available (median age 5.5, median deviation from ideal weight 0.0), 55 of them were healthy; the others had various diseases. For ration calculation, a standardized questionnaire and the software diet‐check Munich? was used. ME was predicted according to NRC (2006). Data were evaluated for the factors disease, breed, size, age, gender and type of feeding. The mean ME intake of all adult dogs amounted to 0.410 ± 0.121 MJ/kg metabolic body weight (BW0.75) (= 586). There was no effect of size and disease. Overweight dogs ate 0.360 ± 0.121 MJ/kg BW0.75, and underweight dogs ate 0.494 ± 0.159 MJ/kg BW0.75. Older dogs (>7 years, = 149, 0.389 ± 0.105 MJ/kg BW0.75) had a lower ME intake than younger ones (= 313, 0.419 ± 0.121 MJ/kg BW0.75), and intact males had a higher ME intake than the others (p < 0.001). Some breeds were above average: Jack Russell Terrier, Dalmatian, small Munsterlander and Magyar Viszla, Bearded Collies, Sight Hounds, German Boxers, English foxhounds, Rhodesian Ridgebacks and Flat‐Coated Retrievers with a mean ME intake of 0.473 ± 0.121 MJ/kg BW0.75. The following breeds were below average: Dachshunds, Bichons, West highland White Terrier, Collies except Bearded Collies, Airedale Terriers, American Staffordshire terriers and Golden Retrievers with a mean ME intake of 0.343 ± 0.096 MJ/kg BW0.75. The mean maintenance energy requirements of pet dogs are similar to that of kennel dogs which do not exercise very much. These results suggest that opportunity and stimulus to exercise provided for pet dogs are lower than for kennel dogs. Lower activity in pet dogs may reduce part of potential effects of breed, medical history and age groups.  相似文献

Obesity is a growing problem in pets as well as in humans. Overweight and obesity are linked to insulin sensitivity and subsequently in older cats, to an increased risk of developing diabetes mellitus. In the experimental cat population of the Institute of Animal Nutrition of the Vetsuisse Faculty, University of Zurich, an overweight phenotype in intact cats younger than 1 year became evident. The aims of the present study were to determine whether an association between insulin sensitivity and body condition score (BCS) or feline body mass index (FBMI) is already present during young adulthood in these cats and to test the hypothesis that the phenotype lean/overweight is significantly associated with monthly body weight during the growing period. Therefore, 41 kittens from the mentioned cat breeding colony were studied. They were weighed weekly and checked monthly (third to eighth month after birth) for BCS and FBMI. At the age of 8 months, they were classified into an overweight and lean phenotype based on BCS on a scale of 9 (median; maximum and minimum: overweight male (6.4; 6.8; 6.0); overweight female (6.1; 6.2; 6.0); lean male (5.4; 5.7; 5.0); lean female (5.2; 5.6; 5.0). A significant association between the phenotype and body weight was obvious during the growing period from the third to the 8 months (p = 0.0001). At month 8, body fat content was measured by dual energy X‐ray absorptiometry and a glucose tolerance test to determine the insulin sensitivity index was performed. Insulin sensitivity was significantly associated with BCS (p = 0.0007) and body fat content (p < 0.0001) but not with sex (p = 0.61). Our data provide evidence that already in young intact cats; insulin insensitivity is significantly associated with BCS or a presumed phenotype lean/overweight.  相似文献

我国农业资源严重短缺,但食物分配不均与超重肥胖问题却日益严峻,不仅困扰人口健康,而且导致食物与资源严重浪费,从食物需求管理视角研究引导居民合理热量摄入对于人口健康和农业资源节约具有重要意义。基于需求理论,拓展并构建纳入膳食知识禀赋的居民体重管理决策理论模型,利用中国健康与营养调查(CHNS)数据,分析收入增长与膳食知识对超重个体热量摄入的影响,探讨两者影响超重个体热量摄入的作用机制。结果表明,膳食知识增加能有效减少超重个体热量摄入,主要通过减少谷物类食物摄入量,实现食物摄入量减少和热量摄入量下降。收入增长对超重个体热量摄入无显著影响。收入增长的直接效应提高了食物消费总量;收入增长引起的食物结构升级减少了谷物食物和油脂摄入,增加了蔬菜水果和肉蛋奶类食物摄入;谷物类食物和油脂摄入减少引起的热量下降很大程度上抵消了肉蛋奶食物摄入增加引起的热量增加。这一结果对热量摄入无收入弹性提供了一般性的解释。因此,政府相关部门有必要对超重人群给予膳食指导,并采取相关干预政策增加超重居民膳食知识,调整不健康的饮食行为,增加体育锻炼。  相似文献
