Summary A landrace seed lot of runner bean (Phaseolus coccineus L.), obtained from the Budapest region, Hungary, was separated into five seed groups according to seed coat colour. 131 plants were grown randomly, and observed for 27 morphological and physiological characters. The collected data were analysed by ANOVA.Numerical taxonomy of the data employed Principal Components Analysis to generate scatter diagrams and Cluster Analysis to generate dendrograms, both before and after removing data on the four anthocyanin colour characters (seed coat, calyx, stem and flower colour) as these characters are probably controlled by a single major gene. The progenies from the five distinct parental seed groups showed much overlap in characteristics, indicating that they were not distinct lines but comprised a largely panmictic population. Some character associations were detected: plants from white seeds matured significantly later than those from black seeds, plants from white seeds with a few dark spots produced seeds significantly heavier than average, whereas those from white or black seeds produced significantly lighter seeds, although the average seed yield per plant did not differ significatly. 相似文献

The myrmecophilous Platyarthrus schoblii Budde-Lund, 1885 is widely distributed and native in the Mediterranean region. In Hungary it was first found at Budapest, in 2001, in a colony of Lasius neglectus van Loon, Boomsma and Andrásfalvy, 1990 (Hymenoptera: Formicidae). This invasive and polygynous ant species is dispersing in an antropochorous way throughout Europe. There are 16 known colonies of L. neglectus in Hungary. Fourteen of them have been surveyed for the isopod, which was detected in eight cases (57%). In addition to L. neglectus, the isopod has been recently found with other native ant species [Lasius niger (Linnaeus, 1758), Lasius emarginatus (Olivier, 1791) and Tetramorium caespitum (Linnaeus, 1758)] in the country. We have also found the joint occurrence of P. hoffmannseggii Brandt, 1833 and P. schoblii. The co-occurrence and joint expansion of the ranges of L. neglectus and P. schoblii indicates their co-habitation and antropochorous dispersal while the appearance with L. emarginatus, L. niger and T. caespitum supports our hypothesis about possible adoption by different ant species. 相似文献

Predicting land cover changes and their impact on the sediment influx in the Lake Balaton catchment 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
The land cover pattern in the Lake Balaton catchment (Hungary) has been changing since decollectivization in the 1990s. These
land cover changes significantly impact the landscape connectivity, controlling the influx of sediments into the lake. A comparison
of high resolution land cover maps from 1981, 2000 and 2005 showed a significant extensification of the agriculture with land
cover conversions from arable land and vineyards to grassland and forest. For each land unit transition probabilities were
assessed using logistic regression techniques to evaluate to which extent land cover changes are controlled by physical or
socio-economic parameters. A stochastic land cover allocation algorithm was applied to generate future land cover patterns.
The landscape connectivity for each of the simulated land cover patterns was assessed by means of a distributed routing algorithm.
The simulations suggest that further land abandonment in the upslope parts of the catchment will cause a non-linear reduction
of average soil erosion rates. The changes, however, have a relatively low impact on the sediment volume entering the lake
because of the land unit’s poor connectivity with permanent river channels. The major contributors to the lakes sediment load
are the vineyards near the lakeshore. They are likely to be maintained because of their touristic value. A significant reduction
of the total sediment input in the lake can be expected only if soil conservation measures in the vineyards near the shorelines
are undertaken. 相似文献

As a result of Hungary's membership in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), surface nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) balances on a country level are calculated and reported to the OECD annually. The Research Institute for Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry (RISSAC) of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences is responsible for the calculations. Surface nutrient NP balances of each of the seven Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics (NUTS) 2 regions of Hungary were calculated for the period of 1989 (the starting year of political and economic transitions in the country) to 2005. For the environmental risk assessment of NP balances, it is also essential to take the soil NP status of the investigated area into consideration. Correlations between NP balances and soil NP status should be investigated on EU, country, or regional levels. The relevant agricultural databases of the Central Statistical Office of Hungary (CSOH) were used to ensure the accurate estimations of coefficients. Significant differences were found among the regions both in the input and output sides of the NP balances and, as a consequence, in the regional NP balances. Utilization of the agricultural area also differs among the regions, as a consequence of their geographical location, terrain features, soil and climate conditions, and different traditions. In general, the annual N balances of the studied period in the Hungarian regions were positive, whereas P balances were negative. Surface gross nutrient NP balances of each of the seven Hungarian regions decreased in the studied period, but characteristic differences between Hungarian regions still remained. 相似文献

Since the fragmentation of natural habitats is one of the most serious problems for many endangered species, it is highly interesting to study the properties of fragmented landscapes. As a basic property, landscape connectivity and its effects on various ecological processes are frequently in focus. First, we discuss the relevance of some graph properties in quantifying connectivity. Then, we propose a method how to quantify the relative importance of habitat patches and corridors in maintaining landscape connectivity. Our combined index explicitly considers pure topological properties and topographical measures, like the quality of both patches (local population size) and corridors (permeability). Finally, for illustration, we analyze the landscape graph of the endangered, brachypterous bush-cricket Pholidoptera transsylvanica. The landscape contains 11 patches and 13 corridors and is situated on the Aggtelek Karst, NE-Hungary. We characterize the importance of each node and link of the graph by local and global network indices. We show how different measures of connectivity may suggest different conservation preferences. We conclude, accordingly to our present index, by identifying one specific habitat patch and one specific corridor being in the most critical positions in maintaining connectivity. This revised version was published online in May 2005 with corrections to the Cover Date. 相似文献

For many species, one important key to persistence is maintaining connectivity among local populations that allow for dispersal
and gene flow. This is probably true for carabid species (Coleoptera:Carabidae) living in the fragmented forests of the Bereg
Plain (NE Hungary and W Ukraine). Based on field data, we have drafted a landscape graph of the area representing the habitat
network of these species. Graph nodes and links represented two kinds of landscape elements: habitat (forest) patches and
corridors, respectively. The quality of habitat patches and corridors were ranked (from low (1) to high (4)), reflecting local
population sizes in the case of patches and estimated permeability in the case of corridors. We analysed (1) the positional
importance of landscape elements in maintaining the connectivity of the intact network, (2) the effect of inserting hypothetical
corridors into the network, (3) the effects of improving the quality of the existing corridors, and (4) how to connect every
patch in a cost-effective way. Our results set quantitative priorities for conservation practice by identifying important
corridors: what to protect, what to build and what to improve. Several network analytical techniques were used to account
for the directed (source-sink) and highly fragmented nature of the landscape graph. We provide conservation priority ranks
for the landscape elements and discuss the conditions for the use of particular network indices. Our study could be of extreme
relevance, since a new highway is being planned through the area. 相似文献

Tillage effects on compaction, earthworms and other soil quality indicators in Hungary 总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
The philosophy toward tillage throughout the last century in Hungary can be characterized as a fight against extreme climatic and economic situations. The ‘Hungarian reasonable tillage’ approach that was promoted by Cserháti at the end of the 1800s was aimed at reducing tillage without increasing the risk of crop failure in arable fields. Recently, new tillage trends and systems have been introduced because of the rise in energy prices and because of the need to cut production costs, conserve soil and water resources and protect the environment. In Hungarian relation, the rationalized plowing, loosening and mulching systems are counted to the new tillage solutions. There are new steps in the sowing methods too, such as seedbed preparation and plant in one pass, till and plant, mulch-till and plant and direct drilling, which are environment capable, throughout improving soil condition and avoiding the environment harms. The applicability of various soil conservation tillage methods is currently being tested in research projects and discussed in workshops throughout the country. In this paper, soil quality problems such as compaction, trends in soil tillage, and factors affecting soil quality or condition as well as improvement and maintenance are summarized. The data show that annual disking and plowing causes subsoil compaction at the depth of tillage within 3 years and that the compacted layer expanded both in surface and deeper layers after the 5th year. Soil quality deterioration by tillage-pans was improved by subsoiling and maintained by direct drilling and planting soil-loosening catch crops. Within a loam and a sandy loam soil there were close correlations between earthworm activity and soil quality. Earthworm numbers increased on undisturbed but noncompacted soils and soils that included stubble residues remaining on the surface, but did not increase on soils that were deteriorated by tillage-pans or left bare by the absence of mulch. Our goal for the new millennium, is to use only enough tillage to create and maintain harmony between soil conservation, soil quality and crop production. 相似文献
