The potential demand for seed potatoes: a world perspective

Summary For most regions of the world, estimates have been made of the quantity of certified seed potatoes available and the potential demand for them. The differences between these figures are relatively small in America and Europe, but mostly large in Africa and Asia despite marked local increases of supply since 1970. In most regions additional demands will probably be met by countries increasing their own seed production rather than by increases in imports; the latter, if any, will probably be limited to seed of newly bred high-yielding cultivars.
