Three types of bamboo pellets as a ruminant feed: P1 (ground bamboo (GB) cultured with the fungus Ceriporiopsis subvermispora (CGB) : soybean curd residue (T) : soy sauce cake (S) in a 5:4:1 ratio on a dry matter (DM) basis); P2 (GB : T : S = 5:4:1 on a DM basis); and P3 (CGB : T : S = 5.5:0.8:3.7 on a DM basis) were prepared. Four wethers were assigned in a 4 × 4 Latin square design experiment to evaluate the applicability of the bamboo pellets. The experimental treatments were C (control): fed alfalfa hay cubes (AC) only, and T1, T2 and T3: fed P1, P2, and P3 with AC by 1:1 on a DM basis, respectively. The digestibility of the DM, organic matter and acid detergent fiber of P1 were significantly higher than those of P2 and P3 (P < 0.05). The total digestible nutrient (TDN) contents of AC, P1, P2 and P3 were 56.5%, 60.2%, 53.2% and 47.0%, respectively. No significant differences in nitrogen retention or ruminal pH and NH3 were observed among the treatment groups. The results indicate that bamboo pellets cultured with C. subvermispora and mainly mixed with soybean curd residue improved nutritional quality of ground bamboo because of its high digestibility and TDN content. 相似文献

ABSTRACTRelationships between wheat (Triticum æstivum L.) yield components and growing season weather conditions (e.g. temperature, precipitation, and sunshine duration) were investigated for a rice-wheat rotation paddy system situated in Northern Kyushu, Japan over a 17-year period (2000–2016). A 1.0 mm increase in precipitation from 21 to 32 days after sowing decreased wheat yield by about 27 kg ha?1 at early seedling stage with one to two leaves (Zadoks (Z) growth stage Z1.1–1.2). Number of tillers and spikes showed significant negative correlations to the amount of precipitation during the period. An hour increase in mean daily sunshine hours from 94 to 111 days after sowing resulted in an 328 kg ha?1 rise in grain yield at stem elongation stage with the first and second node detection (Z3.1–3.2). The grain number per square meter also showed strong positive correlations to sunshine hours during the same period. However, this positive effect of sunshine was negated when precipitation exceeded about 30 mm during the early seedling stage. Consequently, precipitations at early seedling stage and sunshine hours at stem elongation stage mostly determined wheat yield in Northern Kyushu paddy field. The first joint Japanese Society of Toxicologic Pathology (JSTP) and National Toxicology
Program (NTP) Satellite Symposium, entitled “Pathology Potpourri,” was held on January
29th at Okura Frontier Hotel in Tsukuba, Ibaraki, Japan, in advance of the
JSTP’s 29th Annual Meeting. The goal of this Symposium was to present current
diagnostic pathology or nomenclature issues to the toxicologic pathology community. This

During the last few decades, pine wilt disease has spread to cool-climate regions in Japan and, more recently, the potential risk of it spreading into the European midwest has also become a concern. In a coastal pine stand (84.7?ha) in Akita, near the northern limit of pine wilt disease in Japan, we investigated seasonal variations in the incidence of damage caused by the disease to trees and oviposition by the disease’s insect vector, Monochamus alternatus, during a two-year period. Foliage discoloration occurred throughout each year, and its seasonal variation showed a bimodal pattern in Pinus thunbergii (a higher peak in May–June and a smaller peak in October) and a clear peak in June in P. densiflora, which differed from the patterns in seasonal variation seen for warm-climate regions. Oviposition scars by M. alternatus were found in 40–45% of the trees damaged each year. The percentage of trees that had oviposition scars was higher in P. thunbergii than in P. densiflora. This appeared to reflect the difference in seasonal discoloration pattern between the two species. Analysis of the oviposition risk showed that trees that exhibited discoloration starting between July and October had a significantly higher risk or significantly higher oviposition scar densities, particularly for those that became discolored between August and September (2.5–14.6-fold higher risk than during other months). Oviposition scar densities per damaged tree were similar within the period of higher oviposition risk. Considering both oviposition risks and scar densities, we concluded that trees with discoloration that become apparent between July and October are important targets for preventing the spread of pine wilt disease in Akita. 相似文献

‘Niigata S3’ is a new strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa Duch.) cultivar that is early flowering and possesses high soluble solid content and good coloration. It was selected from a cross between Kei812 (seed parent) and ‘Asuka-Ruby’ (pollen parent). The first harvest date of ‘Niigata S3’ was December 27, 34 days earlier than ‘Echigohime’ and 9 days earlier than ‘Asuka-Ruby’ (means of 2007 and 2008). The marketable yield of ‘Niigata S3’ was 85% of ‘Echigohime’, 107% of ‘Asuka-Ruby’, while the early yield was 145% of ‘Echigohime’, 85% of ‘Asuka-Ruby’ (based on 2007 and 2008 means). The shape of the fruit is long conical, and its skin color medium-red. The fruit skin hardness of ‘Niigata S3’ was 31.5 g/mm2, which was harder than ‘Echigohime’, and its average soluble solid content was 11.4%, which was higher than the values for ‘Echigohime’ and ‘Asuka-Ruby’ (2008). Furthermore, ‘Niigata S3’ did not bear apical overripe fruit. The effects of delayed first feeding on the survival and growth of tiger grouper, Epinephelus fuscoguttatus (Forsskål 1775), larvae were examined under controlled conditions. The total length, yolk sac volume, oil globule volume, yolk sac absorption time and nutritional transition period (NTP) of the larvae fed at different first times (0, 6, 12, 18 and 24 h after the mouth opening stage; h AMO) were compared. Larval first feed intake was observed at 54 h after hatching (h AH) at 27.5 ± 0.5 °C. The yolk sac was consumed more rapidly with an increase in delayed first feeding and was significantly different among treatments (P<0.05). Larvae first fed at 0 h AMO had the longest yolk sac absorption (72 h AH) and NTP (20 h) times and had the highest survival and growth rates at the end of the experimental period (360 h AH), being significantly higher (P<0.05) than the other treatments. First mortality was observed at 69 h AH, approximately 2 h after point of no return (PNR) occurred. This study suggests that first feeding of tiger grouper larvae should commence at 0 h AMO for enhancement of larval survival and growth. 相似文献

Genotypic variation in stomatal density and size has been reported but little is known of the genetic mechanisms behind these
leaf traits. Using 101 recombinant inbred lines derived from a cross between a tropical japonica, IR69093-41-3-2-2 and an
indica variety, IR72, we conducted a field study to determine stomatal density and size and identify quantitative trait loci
(QTL) controlling these traits under lowland conditions. Ten QTLs for stomatal density and four QTLs for size were identified
across growth stages and leaf surfaces (adaxial and abaxial). The contribution of each QTL to total phenotypic variation ranged
from 9.3 to 15.2% for stomatal density and 9.7 to 14.3% for size. The allele from IR72 increased stomatal density and that
from IR69093-41-3-2-2 increased size. The expression of the QTLs for stomatal density and size differed by growth stage indicating
that these traits might be genetically controlled depending on growth stage or that each QTL had a different function by growth
stage. Significant negative genetic correlations between stomatal density and size at both vegetative (r = −0.308**) and heading (r = −0.484**) stages were observed but no common QTL for these traits was detected across growth stages and leaf surfaces.
These results indicate that the QTLs for density and size may neither be genetically linked nor pleiotropically controlled
and findings can be used as basis for selection at the leaf level on the balance of carbon and water uptake. Further study
is needed to fully understand the mechanism underlying the observed genetic association and to elucidate the function of the

Boards were produced by using SP adhesive, which contains styrene-butadiene rubber and polyethylene glycol as major constituents.
The use of polyethylene in place of clay, which is also a generally used constituent of SP adhesive, was confirmed to improve
board properties. In general, the properties of boards are poorer when produced by two-stage pressing, in which mats are first
processed by temporary adhesion and then processed into boards by permanent adhesion; however, the properties of boards produced
by two-stage pressing were improved when polyethylene was added to the SP adhesive. In addition, internal bond strength and
thickness swelling was greatly improved when boards were produced from ozonized wood and by sealed pressing. Thus, the properties

Previously, the distribution of myoepithelial cells (mecs) in the salivary glands was studied by both immunohistochemistry,
and transmission electron microscopy; however, little was elucidated concerning their morphological features, especially in
goats. This study was performed to investigate the correlation between the cytoarchitecture of the mecs in goat major salivary
glands (parotid, mandibular, and sublingual glands) and the nature of the saliva secretion. The cytoarchitectural features
of the mecs were examined by scanning and transmission electron microscopy as well as immunohistochemically. The secretory
endpieces in the parotid gland are of the pure serous type, but in both the mandibular and sublingual glands they are of the
mixed type. In all studied glands, the intercalated ducts were covered by mecs which, unlike the large stellate cells that
surrounded the secretory endpieces, were spindle-shaped with few cytoplasmic processes. Interestingly, the mecs were found
to bulge on the basal surfaces of the serous acini and intercalated ducts in all glands and to be in close contact to the
seromucous tubules surface in the mandibular and sublingual glands forming a continuous network around it. In conclusion,
the differences in the degree of development of the mecs as well as the number of their cytoplasmic processes may be correlated
with the nature of the secretion and the number of the secretory granules. Thus these observations may have some relevance
in the diagnosis of atrophy and pathogenic conditions of these glands. 相似文献
