Melanomacrophage centres (MMCs), located in different organs of non‐mammalian vertebrates, play a role in the destruction, detoxification or recycling of endogenous and exogenous materials. Cytochrome P450 monoxygenase 1A (CYP1A) is involved in xenobiotics biotransformation, and its liver expression is considered as a biomarker for detecting exposure to environmental pollutants. Atlantic bluefin tuna (ABFT), Thunnus thynnus L., liver samples were collected from: wild animals caught in the eastern Atlantic; juveniles reared in the central Adriatic; juveniles reared in the northern Adriatic; adults reared in the western Mediterranean. The samples were processed for basic histology, histochemistry and for CYP1A immunodetection. An unexpected high density of MMCs, containing ferric iron and lipofuscin–ceroids, was detected in the juveniles sampled in the northern Adriatic Sea. These individuals showed also a strong anti‐CYP1A immunopositivity in hepatocytes and in the epithelium of bile ducts. This study supports the utility of MMCs as biomarkers of fish ‘health status’ and gives concern for a potential contaminant accumulation in ABFT.  相似文献

The abundance of Atlantic bluefin tuna has been severely reduced since the advent of industrial fishing. A recreational catch-and-release fishery is currently being developed to target bluefin tuna in the southern Gulf of St. Lawrence, off the coast of Prince Edward Island, Canada. To evaluate the sustainability of this fishery, it is necessary to quantify post-release mortality for use in management models. Using pop-up archival satellite tags, we estimated the post-release mortality rate of bluefin tuna captured and released in an experimental recreational fishery. Fish were captured using bait on circle hooks and all fish were hooked in the jaw. Fish were released without being brought onboard the boat. Tags reported from 2 to 246 days post release. Two of 59 bluefin tuna died after catch-and-release yielding a mortality rate of 3.4% (95% C.I. = 0.8% < u < 12.6%). Four tags failed to report. Alternate estimates of the rate or mortality that included an incidental mortality (5.1%; 95% C.I. = 1.6% < u < 14.4%) and removal of the four tags that did not report from the sample (5.6%; 95% C.I. = 1.8% < u < 15.6%) were calculated. The range of fight times was 6–79 min (mean of 33 min; SD of 21 min). These data provide the first mortality estimates for angled and released bluefin tuna and will enable managers to evaluate the potential for developing a catch-and-release fishery in the southern Gulf of St. Lawrence.  相似文献

Electronically tagged juvenile Pacific bluefin, Thunnus orientalis, were released off Baja California in the summer of 2002. Time‐series data were analyzed for 18 fish that provided a record of 380 ± 120 days (mean ± SD) of ambient water and peritoneal cavity temperatures at 120 s intervals. Geolocations of tagged fish were estimated based on light‐based longitude and sea surface temperature‐based latitude algorithms. The horizontal and vertical movement patterns of Pacific bluefin were examined in relation to oceanographic conditions and the occurrence of feeding events inferred from thermal fluctuations in the peritoneal cavity. In summer, fish were located primarily in the Southern California Bight and over the continental shelf of Baja California, where juvenile Pacific bluefin use the top of the water column, undertaking occasional, brief forays to depths below the thermocline. In autumn, bluefin migrated north to the waters off the Central California coast when thermal fronts form as the result of weakened equatorward wind stress. An examination of ambient and peritoneal temperatures revealed that bluefin tuna fed during this period along the frontal boundaries. In mid‐winter, the bluefin returned to the Southern California Bight possibly because of strong downwelling and depletion of prey species off the Central California waters. The elevation of the mean peritoneal cavity temperature above the mean ambient water temperature increased as ambient water temperature decreased. The ability of juvenile bluefin tuna to maintain a thermal excess of 10°C occurred at ambient temperatures of 11–14°C when the fish were off the Central California coast. This suggests that the bluefin maintain peritoneal temperature by increasing heat conservation and possibly by increasing internal heat production when in cooler waters. For all of the Pacific bluefin tuna, there was a significant correlation between their mean nighttime depth and the visible disk area of the moon.  相似文献

ABSTRACT: Attempts have been made to assess the end-point temperature (EPT) of heated fish and shellfish meats by using the coagulation method together with sodium dodecylsulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) analysis and enzyme activity determination. Unfrozen and frozen fish and shellfish meats were heat-treated at different selected temperatures with 0, 15 or 30 min holding times. Proteins were extracted with NaCl solution. The coagulation method was able to determine EPT of heated fish and shellfish meats between 60 and 67°C. SDS-PAGE patterns of the filtrates from heated meats were closely related to the results of the coagulation method and enzyme activity determination. Two proteins responsible for producing coagulum of fish meat extracts seem to be lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and glyceraldehyde phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH). End-point temperatures determined by these methods were not significantly different between unfrozen and frozen samples. On the contrary, a highly thermostable protein with a molecular mass of 35 kDa was detected in heated shellfish meats up to 108°C. In scallop adductor muscle, this highly thermostable protein was found to be the tropomyosin subunit from its amino acid composition and their partial sequences. Tropomyosin could be used as an EPT indicator up to 108°C for heated shellfish meats.  相似文献

When the spring seasonal warming starts, North Atlantic albacore (Thunnus alalunga) juveniles and pre‐adults perform a trophic migration to the northeastern Atlantic, to the Bay of Biscay and to the southeast of Ireland. During this migration, they are exploited by Spanish trolling and baitboat fleets. The present study analyzes the relationship between the albacore spatio‐temporal distribution and the thermal environment. For this approach, several analyses have been performed on a database including fishing logbooks and sea surface temperature (SST) images, covering the period between 1987 and 2003. SST values and the SST gradients at the catch locations have been statistically compared to broader surrounding areas to test whether the thermal environment determines the spatial distribution of albacore. General additive models (GAM) have been used also to evaluate the relative importance of environmental variables and fleet behaviour. The results obtained show that, although juvenile albacore catch locations are affected by fleet dynamics, there is a close spatial and temporal relationship with the seasonal evolution of a statistically significant preferential SST window (16–18°C). However, differences have been identified between the relationship of albacore with SST within the Bay of Biscay in July and August (higher temperature). Such differences are found also in the spatial distribution of the catch locations; these reflect clearly the presence of two groups, differentiated after the third week of the fishing campaign at the end of June. The analysis undertaken relating the distribution of North Atlantic albacore juveniles with thermal gradients did not provide any evidence of a relationship between these catch locations and the nearby occurrence of thermal gradients.  相似文献

ABSTRACT:   Physical conditions such as oceanic turbulence related to food availability are considered to be important factors affecting fish larval survival. Rearing experiments were conducted to elucidate the effects of turbulence on the survival and feeding rates during the initial feeding period of Pacific bluefin tuna Thunnus orientalis . Six levels of turbulence intensity were provided by changing flow rates from pipes set on the bottom of rearing tanks. The result showed a dome-shaped relationship between turbulence level and survival rate, in which the feeding rate appeared higher at a logged turbulence energy dissipation rate of −6.32, and decreased at both higher and lower turbulence levels. Compared with the turbulence intensity in the ocean, the optimal turbulence level for Pacific bluefin tuna larvae corresponded to the turbulence caused by sea surface winds with speeds of 4–12.5 m/s. The estimated optimal turbulence intensity for Pacific bluefin tuna larvae is comparable to that for yellowfin tuna Thunnus albacares .  相似文献

ABSTRACT:   A midwater float is a small float attached to the mainline of pelagic longlines to standardize the hook depth. In this study theoretical equations are presented for estimating the buoyancy of the midwater float required to lift the joints of the midwater float line on the mainline to the target depth. Sea trials using full scale tuna longline gear with midwater floats were carried out in the Indian Ocean in December 2004 and 2005, in order to examine the validity of the theoretical equations. In the sea trials, two types of midwater float settings, single midwater float setting and double midwater float setting, were tested and compared with the conventional setting. As a result, the joints of the midwater float line on the mainline were successfully lifted to the target depth as expected, demonstrating the validity of the theoretical equation. The range of hook depths in the midwater float setting was less spread over depths than in the conventional setting, and therefore, use of long float lines (100 m) with the midwater float setting allows all hooks to avoid entering the sea turtle habitat of shallower than 100 m depth. Factors affecting shoaling of the longline with the midwater float are also discussed.  相似文献

大眼金枪鱼是金枪鱼远洋渔业的主要捕捞对象。本文从大眼金枪鱼适宜环境因子、大眼金枪鱼渔场变动、资源丰度及其与环境因子间关系的研究方法等几方面总结了大眼金枪鱼渔场与环境关系的研究进展。大眼金枪鱼种群资源丰度的指标主要是CPUE和标准化后的CPUE,CPUE标准化的方法主要是GLM模型和GLM/HBM模型;目前,分析大眼金枪鱼资源变化与环境间关系的研究方法主要有聚类分析法、G IS软件定性分析法和栖息地指数模型。其中,聚类分析适用于研究大眼金枪鱼的渔场变动,包括系统聚类分析法、动态聚类分析法和灰色星座分析法,利用G IS软件定性分析适用于分析单个环境因子对渔场产生的影响;而栖息地指数模型能综合多个环境因子,分析它们共同对渔场产生的影响。  相似文献
