Within this paper we describe an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) based method to estimate the spatial feed pellet distribution in salmon fish-cages and exploit it within a case study to determine the radial pellet distribution for different rotor spreaders and blower configurations. Compared to previously used methods, capturing pellets thrown from a rotary feed spreader in rows of Styrofoam boxes, the UAV based method is simpler and faster to setup and allows to cover a larger portion of the sea cage surface area. We compare results obtained with the Styrofoam box method with results we obtained by an automatic analysis of aerial videos taken by the UAV during feeding experiments. The employed method helps to gain insight into the spatial feed pellet distribution in full-scale salmon fish-cages where the feeding pipe and actual fixation of the spreader may influence the dynamic behaviour of the feeding system. This can also be seen as a step towards a continuous measuring of the feed pellet distribution, particularly in view of possible future feeding systems that may allow to adapt the feed pellet distribution to the actual fish distribution.  相似文献

Salmon louse, or sea lice, (Lepoptherius salmonis) represents practical, economical and fish welfare challenges for salmon farming (Hamre et al., 2013) and for the free-living stocks of salmon. There is an urgent need in the industry for a system that provides reliable numbers of louse on farmed salmon. Underwater hyperspectral imaging represents a potential new technique for louse counting in sea cages. In laboratory studies, the UHI technology could detect and classify pre-adults (pre-adult I and II), adult males and adult females (ovigerous) of sea lice based on the difference in their spectral characteristics. A model was built for detection of lice on the salmon and the UHI had a detection success ranging from 67 to 100 % with an average of 82%. A classification of the detected lice was performed for pre-adults, adult males and ovigerous lice and had a prediction accuracy of 85% when lice were divided into three groups (pre-adults, adult male and ovigerous lice) and 93% when lice were divided in two groups, ovigerous lice and all the other mobile lice (pre-adults and adult male). An automatic procedure for in situ measurements of louse infected salmon could deliver a data basis several times higher than the traditional counting system. The next generation of UHI louse detector should be developed with a higher spatial resolution to be able to detect also the sessile stages of lice. For succeeding with in situ classification of L. salmonis, correction algorithms to compensate for the impact of water between the UHI and lice need also to be developed.  相似文献

Bacterial inorganic nitrogen control using carbon:nitrogen ratio (C:N) manipulation is a tool for aquaculture systems. The present study assessed the hatchery performance of Litopenaeus vannamei between the mysis 1 and postlarvae 5 stages in a zero-exchange biofloc system under different C:N fertilization levels (10:1, 12.5:1 and 15:1) with dextrose. Water quality, performance parameters and water microbiology were compared among treatments. The mean values of the evaluated water quality parameters were appropriate for this production stage. Fertilization with dextrose efficiently controlled ammonia levels, which did not reach the average concentrations considered toxic for the species. In the 10:1 C:N ratio treatment, the levels of ammonia started to increase early and showed significantly higher levels from the third to the last experimental day. There was no difference among groups in means of survival (>76%) and dry weight (0.26 mg) of L. vannamei production parameters and water quality were maintained without water exchange using a biofloc system supplemented with dextrose. Therefore, the use of biofloc systems without water exchange with dextrose as a carbon source in C:N ratios of 10:1, 12.5:1 and 15:1 results in both adequate production indexes and water quality during the misis 1 to post-larvae 5 hatchery phases of L. vannamei. However, the ratios of 12.5:1 and 15:1 keep lower levels of ammonia.  相似文献

The dynamic behavior of a fish cage collar in waves was investigated using a numerical model based on the finite element method. The floating collar and mooring system were divided into a series of line segments modeled by straight massless model segments with a node at each end. To verify the validity of the numerical model, research data from other authors were cited and compared with the simulated results, the comparison of results showed a good agreement. The numerical model was then applied to a dynamic simulation of a floating cage collar in waves to analyze its elastic deformation and mooring line tension. The simulated results indicated that the greatest deformation of the collar taken place in the position of the mooring line connection point when incident waves were in the same direction. An increase in the length of mooring line would help to decrease the mooring line tension of the collar. Furthermore, the effects of collar dimension, including collar circumference, pipe diameter in cross-section, and pipe thickness, on the dynamic behavior of the floating collar were discussed. The results of this study provided a better understanding of the dynamic behavior of the fish cage collar.  相似文献

The food grade agar in India has been almost exclusively obtained from Gracilaria edulis, but the industrial production overwhelmingly relies on exploitation of natural resources. United Nations efforts through Food and Agriculture Organization under Bay of Bengal Program highlighted the necessity of undertaking commercial farming of this species along Indian coast for socio-economic benefits. The pilot-scale experiments established viability of large-scale cultivation by floating raft method. Nevertheless, drastic reduction in yield and quality during summer months due to enhanced sedimentation and severe epiphytism is found to be a major hindrance. Altering the positioning of rafts from horizontal to vertical alignment improved the growth and yield under open sea condition at two different locations along south east coast of India. The average yield in horizontal raft was found to be 3.08 ± 0.61 kg fr wt raft−1 with corresponding DGR of 1.87 ± 0.63% day−1 while same in case of vertical rafts was 13.76 ± 3.86 kg fr wt raft−1 and 5.00 ± 0.5% day−1 in Gulf of Mannar under 45 days growth cycle. The corresponding values along Palk Bay were 2.98 ± 0.52 g fr wt raft−1 and 1.38 ± 0.42% day−1 for horizontal raft and 13.02 ± 6.06 kg fr wt raft−1 and 4.14 ± 1.18% day−1 for vertical raft. ANOVA clearly indicated that raft position significantly influenced the biomass yield and DGR at Palk Bay (F = 75.77; F = 112.81) as well as Gulf of Mannar (F = 27.21; F = 59.16) at p = 0.001. The increment of 1.9–2.6% in fresh weight of individual frond was reported in vertically aligned rafts. The computational fluid dynamics (CFD) based unsteady numerical simulations have confirmed that vertical alignment of raft facilitates relatively free movement of water due to which sedimentation and epiphytism are either minimised or eliminated. Thus these studies can help us to deduce important conclusions pertaining to management of sustained commercial cultivation of this alga in Indian waters.  相似文献

In response to the increased demand for food in general and food fish in particular, offshore mariculture is faced with the technological challenge of providing a viable cage design concept that is able to function effectively in high-energy environments. The single-point-mooring (SPM) fish cage systems for offshore fish farming are gaining support due to their environmentally friendly and economically favorable characteristics. An SPM self-submersible cage design concept has been identified as a potential mariculture cage concept for offshore waters, and the success of this concept depends on the operational performance in the offshore environment. Therefore, the current paper investigates the submergence characteristics of such a cage system in regular waves with a following current. This work also investigates the possibility of manipulating the cage system to achieve the desired submergence under different environmental conditions. The analysis demonstrates good potential for the self-submersible SPM cage concept in the simulated load cases because the response of the cage system to increasing wave height implies considerable additional submergence for realistic environmental conditions in offshore sites. The results also suggest that the concept allows adequate flexibility for use of the cage system in a range of environmental conditions.  相似文献

In 1996, the production of Achillea millefolium L. at different locations in Norway was investigated with regard to the developmental stage. The oil content differed greatly between the vegetative stage (0.13%) and the stage of full bloom (0.34%). Changes in the composition of yarrow essential oil were found to be related to maturation of the plant, with increasing amounts of monoterpenes in relation to the sesquiterpene. However, a clear trend could be detected only for the monoterpenic compounds with increasing levels of alpha- and beta-pinene and alpha-thujone and decreasing levels of sabinene, borneol, and bornyl acetate. Previously reported as major compounds, chamazulene and germacrene D could be found only in insignificant amounts. A solid-phase microextraction (SPME) procedure was applied for screening of the terpenic composition. Sesquiterpenic compounds such as beta-bisabolene, alpha-bisabolol, and delta-cadinene were detected in substantial amounts by SPME in contrast to the steam-distilled samples.  相似文献

High and unpredictable mortality rates are observed in the larval rearing of cod (Gadus morhua). As a means of addressing this problem, we present a model-based estimator system which can be used to indirectly measure the larval density through monitoring the live food dynamics and larval growth. The estimator has been evaluated in a conceptual context using a preliminary model formulation, and the observability of the process has been investigated. It was found that the two parameters, live food dynamics and larval growth, contain enough information for the larval density to be estimated under noisy conditions, given the correct model. When the system is applied practically, the estimation error will depend on the measurement and model accuracy; this is especially true with respect to the predictability of the feed intake rate of the fish.  相似文献
