Experiments of accelerated oxidation of "fino" sherry wines have been conducted at 25 degrees C and under the influence of UV-visible radiation (a xenon lamp of 1500 W). With the aim of determining the contribution of UV-vis radiation to the browning phenomenon, two types of glass bottles were employed: topaz bottles (with low values of transmittance in the UV-visible range) and transparent bottles. To identify significant differences between the wine before and after being subjected to the influence of the UV-vis radiation, the values of absorbance at 420 nm and the concentrations of various polyphenolic and volatile compounds were submitted to a multivariate variance analysis. Both factors considered (time and type of bottle) had a statistically significant effect on the values of absorbance at 420 nm and on the concentration of most of the polyphenolic compounds, whereas only the "time" factor was significant for volatile compounds. All wines showed losses in several polyphenolic compounds, which were more severe for the wines bottled in transparent glasses. However, these wines exhibited a lower degree of visual browning (abs 420 nm). In the case of volatile compounds, most of these presented increases during storage exposed to the influence of the UV-vis radiation. 相似文献

Nine sweet cherry and eight sour cherry varieties located in a germplasm bank at Fundão, Portugal, were studied from the viewpoint of characterization. Most of them were autochthonous cultivars that have a high risk of extinction since at the present they are markedly minor varieties. Morphological characteristics were evaluated in different organs: crown and trunk of the trees, leaves, flowers and fruits, over a three consecutive years period. Statistical analyses were carried out in order to detect similarities between cultivars as well as the existence of synonymies. Qualitative characteristics of the fruits were scored in order to carry out the multivariate analysis. A dendrogram of the evaluated characters shows the marked differentiation between sour and sweet cherries and suggests the existing synonymies. Conservation of the autochthonous cultivars in the future is highly recommended. 相似文献

Potential of Community-Based Forest Management to Mitigate Climate Change in the Philippines 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Community-based forest management (CBFM) is the principal strategy in managing inhabited ‘forest land’ in the Philippines.
It involves the participation of local communities in various forestry activities to achieve sustainable forestry, advance
social justice and improve socioeconomic welfare, and promote a stable and healthy environment. This paper analyses the potential
benefits of agroforestry farms in CBFM sites to mitigate climate change. The incorporation of trees in farms and landscapes
has led to enhanced carbon storage and sequestration. Half a million hectares of agroforestry farms in CBFM sites in the Philippines
are estimated to store 25 MtC while sequestering 2.7 MtC annually. Lessons are drawn from three carbon sequestration projects
under development using CBFM as the main approach. Income from carbon credits is not sufficient to recover the cost of tree
planting. The transaction costs of forestry CDM projects are substantial and could prove to be the greatest barrier to project
fruition. Government institutions must find ways to encourage project developers by simplifying rules and regulations for
forestry carbon projects. Forest definition must be assessed. Project developers and the government could also explore the
voluntary carbon market which is more flexible than the CDM market. Policy and technical studies must be conducted to ascertain
the potential of the REDD for CBFM sites in the country. 相似文献

Málaga is a province of Spain where olive-trees are cultivated in a large range of environments, climates and soils. We have
developed a reliable and reproducible method to detect RAPD and AP-PCR polymorphisms, using DNA from olive-tree (Olea europaea L.) leaves. Starting from their natural orchards, fifty-six olive-tree cultivars throughout Málaga province, including oil
and table olive cultivars, were screened and grouped into 22 varieties. A total of 62 informative polymorphic loci that provide
601 conspicuous bands were enough to differentiate the varieties. Clustering analyses managing 3 different pairwise distances,
as well as phylogenetic analyses, led to the same result: olive-trees in Málaga can be divided into three main groups. Group
I (90% of certainty) contains wild type and two introduced varieties, group II (83% of certainty) covers some native olive-trees,
and group III (58% of certainty) is an heterogeneous cluster that includes varieties originating and cultivated in a number
of Andalusian locations. Geographic location seems to be the first responsible of this classification, and morphological traits
are needed to justify the group III subclustering. These results are consistent with the hypothesis of autochthonic origin
of most olive-tree cultivars, and have been used to support a Label of Origin for the olive oil produced by the varieties
included in group II.

Aroma compounds of 48 Sherry brandies have been identified and quantified by the stir bar sorptive extraction method coupled to gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (SBSE-GC/MS). Analysis of variance and multivariate analysis techniques have been used to classify these brandy samples according to the commercial category (Solera brandy, Solera Reserva brandy, and Solera Gran Reserva brandy). From an univariate point of view (analysis of variance), several of the volatile compounds considered showed significant differences. Principal component analysis, using the global data matrix, showed that only the Solera brandy samples, with the shortest aging in wood, were well-differentiated from the others. Partial least-squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) results provided evidence of the ability of the content of volatile compounds to discriminate among the different commercial categories. Linear discriminate analysis allowed for a 93% differentiation according to the commercial category and, thus, the length of its aging process in wood. The results obtained show that it would be possible to ensure the commercial category of a Sherry brandy using its content of volatile compounds. 相似文献

Tilapia–shrimp polyculture has played an important role in current efforts to control luminous bacterial disease caused by Vibrio harveyi. At present, green water technology is most extensively used by shrimp farmers in Negros Island in the central Philippines. While the contribution of tilapia as a biomanipulator is highlighted in the literature, the mechanism of action is not well understood. Data were gathered from shrimp ponds practicing two production systems: (a) green water system (probiotics + tilapia) and (b) closed/semiclosed system (probiotics alone). There was no difference between luminous Vibrio count (P < 0.05) in both systems, and water quality was found to be similar (P < 0.05). Because the green water system uses a bigger reservoir to raise the tilapia biomass, the net shrimp production was lower. In terms of direct cost of production, however, the green water system was 10–15% lower than the closed/semiclosed system because of significantly less aeration required. The polyculture maintained a more stable plankton environment during the early months of culture, which increased survival of shrimps. Various pathways are presented for the control of luminous bacterial growth in polyculture ponds: (a) fish feeding on organic wastes and conversion to feces; (b) selective fish foraging to increase the dominance of beneficial phytoplankton; (c) bioturbation of pond sediments; and (d) release in the water column of antimicrobials, fungi, or competing bacteria from the skin and gut mucus of tilapia. 相似文献

An adult male white Bengal tiger (Panthera tigris tigris) with pronounced atrophy of the pelvic musculature was diagnosed with degenerative osteoarthritis of the coxofemoral joints. Initial management with the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug meloxicam and a semisynthetic sodium pentosan polysulfate resulted in clinical improvement and radiographic stabilization of the arthritic condition over several months. However, because pain was still evident, bilateral denervation of the coxofemoral joints was performed, successfully ameliorating the signs of osteoarthritic pain in the tiger. Meloxicam has shown good clinical efficacy for the treatment of osteoarthritis and other painful conditions in large felids. Coxofemoral joint denervation offers many advantages for the treatment of osteoarthritis in exotic carnivore species, and should be considered a viable treatment modality. 相似文献
