The spatial variability in the mineralisation rate of linuron [N-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-N'-methoxy-N'-methylurea] was studied within a previously treated Danish agricultural field by sampling soils from eleven different plots randomly distributed across an area of 20 x 20 m. The soils were characterised with respect to different abiotic and biotic properties including moisture content, organic matter content, pH, nutrient content, bacterial biomass, potential for mineralisation of MCPA [(4-chloro-2-methylphenoxy)acetic acid] and linuron. Five soils had a potential for mineralisation of linuron, with 5-15% of the added [ring-U-14C]linuron metabolised to 14CO2 within 60 days at 10 degrees C, while no extensive mineralisation of linuron was observed in the six remaining soils within this period. A TLC analysis of the methanol-extractable residues showed no development of 14C-labelled metabolites from linuron in any of the samples. Multivariate analysis was conducted to elucidate relationships between the intrinsic properties of single soil samples and initial rate of linuron mineralisation. The analysis indicated that important soil parameters in determining the spatial heterogeneity included the C(total)/N(total) ratio, pH and the water-extractable potassium contents, with the first of these highly negatively correlated and the last two highly positively correlated to the initial linuron mineralisation rate. This study shows that enhanced biodegradation of linuron may develop with successive field treatments, but that considerable in-field spatial heterogeneity in the degradation rate still exists. Combined with a parallel enrichment study focused on the underlying microbial processes, the present results suggest that intrinsic soil properties affect the linuron-metabolising bacterial population and thereby determine the spatial variability in the linuron mineralisation activity.  相似文献

The identification of QTL related to production traits that are relevant for the pig industry has been mostly performed by using divergent crosses. The main objective of the current study was to investigate whether these growth, fatness, and meat quality QTL, previously described in diverse experimental populations, were segregating in a Landrace commercial population selected for litter size, backfat thickness, and growth performance. We have found QTL for carcass weight (posterior P > 0.75), cutlet weight (posterior P > 0.99), weight of ham (posterior P > 0.75), shoulders weight (posterior probability > 0.99), and shear firm-ness (posterior P > 0.99) on pig Chromosome 2. Moreover, QTL with posterior P > 0.75 for fat thickness between the 3rd and 4th ribs (Chromosome 7), rib weights (Chromosome 8), backfat thickness (Chromosomes 8, 9, and 10), and b Minolta color component (Chromosome 7) were identified. These results indicate that commercial purebred populations retain a significant amount of genetic variation, even for traits that have been selected for many generations.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To develop a flow-limited, physiologic-based pharmacokinetic model for use in estimating concentrations of sulfamethazine after IV administration to swine. SAMPLE POPULATION: 4 published studies provided physiologic values for organ weights, blood flows, clearance, and tissue-to-blood partition coefficients, and 3 published studies provided data on plasma and other tissue compartments for model validation. PROCEDURE: For the parent compound, the model included compartments for blood, adipose, muscle, liver, and kidney tissue with an extra compartment representing the remaining carcass. Compartments for the N-acetyl metabolite included the liver and the remaining body. The model was created and optimized by use of computer software. Sensitivity analysis was completed to evaluate the importance of each constant on the whole model. The model was validated and used to estimate a withhold interval after an IV injection at a dose of 50 mg/kg. The withhold interval was compared to the interval estimated by the Food Animal Residue Avoidance Databank (FARAD). RESULTS: Specific tissue correlations for plasma, adipose, muscle, kidney, and liver tissue compartments were 0.93, 0.86, 0.99, 0.94, and 0.98, respectively. The model typically overpredicted concentrations at early time points but had excellent accuracy at later time points. The withhold interval estimated by use of the model was 120 hours, compared with 100 hours estimated by FARAD. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Use of this model enabled accurate prediction of sulfamethazine pharmacokinetics in swine and has applications for food safety and prediction of drug residues in edible tissues.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To describe and evaluate subtotal ostectomy of dorsal spinous processes (DSP) performed in standing horses. STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective study. SAMPLE POPULATION: Nine adult horses. METHODS: The diseased portions of the DSP were removed with the horses standing and sedated after infiltrating a local anesthetic agent around the affected DSP. Medical records of affected horses were reviewed to determine history, findings of physical and radiographic examination, surgical technique, postoperative complications, and outcome. RESULTS: Five horses had subtotal ostectomy of DSP because of osteomyelitis, and 4 because of impingement and/or fracture of DSP. Affected portions of DSP were removed safely and effectively, with no apparent discomfort to the horses; hemorrhage was minimal. CONCLUSIONS: Subtotal ostectomy of DSP can be performed safely in standing, conscious horses and the risks associated with general anesthesia are eliminated. Hemorrhage is minimal compared to that which occurs when the procedure is performed with horses anesthetized and in lateral recumbency. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Access and visibility are better when subtotal ostectomy of the DSP is performed with the horse standing rather than anesthetized and in lateral recumbency. Performing subtotal ostectomy of diseased DSP with the horse standing avoids the expense and risks of general anesthesia.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to compare four identification procedures to detect Dichelobacter nodosus and develop a rapid, simple and effective method to identify D. nodosus strains isolated from cases of ovine footrot. The four methods used were: (a) the classic guidelines set down by Holdeman et al. (1977) and Summanen et al. (1993) which are based on gas liquid chromatography (GLC) and different biochemical tests, this method was considered as landmark; (b) Baron and Citron's flowchart for the rapid identification of Gram-negative rod-shaped anaerobes (1997); (c) the API rapid 32 A system (bio Mérieux), and (d) Mast ID Anaerobe ID Ring (MID8) (Mast Diagnostics). None of the four methods used allowed us to correctly identify the D. nodosus strains (neither the strains isolated from cases of ovine footrot nor those originating from type collection). Because of the difficulties encountered in obtaining a correct identification of D. nodosus, we propose a simple, rapid and effective way to achieve this task. Our flowchart will provide the means to identify this microorganism in any laboratory of general microbiology without having to use any specialised equipment.  相似文献

This research consists of an evaluation of the effectiveness of different substances administered as adjuvants in the stimulation of humoral immune response induced by the vaccine composed of strains A1, A2 and C of Dichelobacter nodosus. To do this, a total of 120 Merino sheep were vaccinated and revaccinated. These sheep were selected from a farm located in the region of Extremadura (Spain), and they were divided into 12 groups of 10 animals each. An additional group with 10 sheep was used as control. The immune response (titre of antibodies) was determined by agglutination tests and ELISA. The most pronounced immune response was obtained by the use of Freund's incomplete adjuvant and aluminium hydroxide as adjuvants.  相似文献

Two trials were conducted to determine the effects of weaning age on pig performance in a multisite production system. The second trial also evaluated the effects of modifying the nursery feeding program according to weaning age. In Trial 1 (2,272 pigs), treatments included weaning litters at 12, 15, 18, or 21 d of age. In Trial 2 (3,456 pigs), litters were weaned at 15, 16, 18, 19, 21, or 22 d of age and categorized into three treatments (15.5, 18.5, or 21.5 d of age). In Trial 2, pigs in each age group were fed one of two nursery feeding programs. Nursery feeding programs varied in both diet formulation and in the quantity of diets fed containing increased levels of whey and spray-dried animal plasma. Each trial was conducted as a randomized complete block design with four blocks of nursery and finishing sites. All weaning-age treatments were weaned from a 7,300-sow farm on the same day into the same nursery. Each block remained intact as pigs moved from nursery to finishing site. Increasing weaning age (12, 15, 18, or 21 d in Trials 1; and 15.5, 18.5, or 21.5 d in Trial 2) increased (linear, P < 0.001) ADG (299, 368, 409, 474 +/- 7 g/d; 435, 482, 525 +/- 13 g/d) and tended to decrease (linear, P < 0.09) mortality (5.25, 2.82, 2.11, 0.54 +/- 0.76%; 2.17, 1.56, 1.30 +/- 0.36%) in the initial 42 d after weaning. Finishing ADG (722, 728, 736, 768 +/- 11 g/d; 783, 790, 805 +/- 11 g/d) also improved (linear, P < 0.01) with increasing weaning age. Overall, increasing weaning age increased (linear, P < 0.001) wean-to-finish ADG (580, 616, 637, 687 +/- 8 g/d; 676, 697, 722 +/- 6 g/d), weight sold per pig weaned (94.1, 100.5, 104.4, 113.1 +/- 1.3 kg; 107.6, 111.6, 116.2 +/- 1.1 kg), and decreased (linear, P < 0.03) mortality rate (9.4, 7.9, 6.8, 3.6 +/- 0.95%; 3.9, 3.4, 2.5 +/- 0.5%). Altering the nursery feeding program did not affect wean-to-finish growth performance. In this multisite production system, increasing weaning age from 12 to 21.5 d of age increased weight sold per pig weaned by 1.80 +/- 0.12 kg for each day increase in weaning age. These studies suggest increasing weaning age up to 21.5 d can be an effective management strategy to improve wean-to-finish growth performance in multisite pig production.  相似文献
