Oxygen consumption and ammonia excretion rates of three abalone species, Haliotis discus discus, H. gigantea, H. madaka and their hybrids were measured at 20 °C by incubating for 3 h under dark and light (N = 9–13 for each species and hybrid). Animals were fasted before and during the experiment and measurements were made first under dark followed by light on the next day. The rates increased with the increase in body weight and were higher under light than dark. On average, H. discus discus had higher oxygen consumption (DD; dark = 0.039, light = 0.04 ml/g/h) than H. gigantea (G; D = 0.033, L = 0.036) and H. madaka (M; D = 0.034, L = 0.035); the hybrids had varied patterns with respect to their parental species [DD × M (D = 0.032, L = 0.038); M × DD (D = 0.03, L = 0.038); G × DD (D = 0.035, L = 0.04) and DD × G (D = 0.03, L = 0.034), mother first]. M (0.261, 0.298 μmol/g/h) had the highest ammonia excretion rate while G (0.162; 0.264) and DD (0.229; 0.232) had the lowest under dark and light, respectively. The hybrids had varied patterns in comparison with their parents (DD × M = 0.247, 0.32;M × DD= 0.177, 0.28; DD × G = 0.249, 0.364 and G × DD = 0.116, 0.155). The O/N ratios under both conditions in all species and hybrids indicated that they had carbohydrate dominated metabolism. Results demonstrated physiological variability among the species and hybrids indicating necessity of different strategies for their management and aquaculture.  相似文献

To identify the cement-hardening inhibitory components of hannoki (Japanese alder,Alnus japonica Steud.), methanol extractives were fractionated by successive organic solvent extraction and column chromatography. Chromatographie analysis and inhibitory indices of the solvent-soluble fractions suggested that glucose and sucrose seem to be the main cement-hardening inhibitory components of Japanese alder. As these compounds are metabolized in vivo even after cutting, the particles after withering are desirable as raw material for wood-cement board.  相似文献

Highly condensed lignin can be transformed by three reactions — phenolation, hydroxymethylation, and neutral sulfonation — to water-soluble lignosulfonate. To elucidate reactivities and products in the latter two reactions, simple compounds were selected as lignin model compounds. With hydroxymethylation of creosol at 60°C, the yield of a condensed-type product with the diarylmethane structure was less than 10%. Hydroxymethylation of 1-guaiacyl-1-p-hydroxy-phenylethane (compound VI) as a phenolized guaiacyl lignin model compound gave four compounds. The initial reaction introduced the hydroxymethyl group mainly in the guaiacyl nucleus, and the additional reaction created two hydroxymethyl groups in the p-hydroxyphenyl nucleus. Contrary to our estimation, treatment of the models with 13C-labeled formaldehyde (H13CIIO) did not form any diarylmethane structure. Neutral sulfite treatment of hydroxymethylated products gave corresponding sulfonates in high yields.  To isolate and identify the cement-hardening inhibitory components of keyaki (Japanese zelkova, Zelkova serrata Makino), methanol extractives containing inhibitory components were fractionated by successive organic solvent extraction and column chromatography, and the inhibition of these fractions was determined. Spectroscopic analysis of one isolated compound identified it to be keyakinin with the C-glucoside structure of a flavonol. According to the inhibitory indices, the compound was found to be the main cement-hardening inhibitory component of keyaki. Extraction of keyaki with hot water or a blend of keyaki with up to 30% hinoki as a suitable species diminished the cement-hardening inhibition of wood-cement board to a great extent, suggesting that such treatments are economical countermeasures to this inhibition. To examine the behavior of monolignol and monolignol glucosides in lignin biosynthesis, pentadeutero[9-D(2), 3-OCD(3)]coniferyl alcohol and pentadeutero[9-D(2), 3-OCD(3)]coniferin were synthesized and fed to growing Eucalyptus camaldulensis and Magnolia kobus. The differences in the incorporation patterns of these labeled precursors were studied using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Both precursors were incorporated into lignin, but the labeled coniferyl alcohol was incorporated more directly, resulting in a high proportion of pentadeutero-labeled guaiacyl and syringyl units in newly formed xylem, while labeled coniferin tended to be incorporated in lignin as tetradeutero units, especially in syringyl lignin in both trees. However, the incorporation efficiencies of the precursors into syringyl lignin were higher in Magnolia than in Eucalyptus, and the ratios of tetradeutero to pentadeutero in guaiacyl lignin were lower in Magnolia than in Eucalyptus when the trees were fed coniferin.  相似文献

In this study, we investigated whether ozonated autohemoadministration (OAHA) influences leukocyte populations in cows with clinical inflammatory disease. Eleven cows with inflammatory disease (Inflammatory Group) and three healthy cows (Control Group) were used for this study. The CD4(+)/CD8(+) ratio in the Inflammatory Group increased significantly compared to that in the Control Group 3 to 4 days after OAHA treatment. In the Inflammatory Group, the number of CD14(+) cells decreased gradually after OAHA, but CD14(+) levels remained stable in the Control Group. The number of MHC class-II(+) cells decreased gradually in the Inflammatory Group, but increased gradually in the Control Group, and the difference between the groups was significant on day 14 after OAHA. These findings suggest a possible difference in the activation of immune response after OAHA in infected cows compared to healthy cows.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to clarify whether weight change rate (WCR) is useful in evaluating herd health. Five herds (A, B, C, D, and E) were examined monthly for approximately 1 year to measure both WCR and BCS. WCR was calculated using the following equation: WCR (%) = (body weight of current month-body weight of the preceding month)/body weight of current month x 100. In addition, blood profiles were performed in each herd before and after calving. The incidence of periparturient diseases was higher in Herds A, B, and C compared with Herds D and E. Reproductive performance in Herds A and B was rather poor compared with Herds C, D, and E. There were significantly lower WCRs in Herd A compared with Herd C during the period of day -30 to day 30 after calving. According to the blood profiles, high levels of non-essential fatty acids (NEFA) were observed during the period of day -30 to -1 and high beta-hidroxybutyricacid (BHB) and low levels of glucose were observed at day 30 after calving in Herd A. A marked poor condition in Herd A during the peripaturient period was clearly expressed by low WCR in this experiment. WCR can express body condition of herds and is suggested to be a useful parameter in the determination of herd performance in field experiments.  相似文献

To compare the changes in the insulin reaction of Holstein dairy cows and Japanese Black cows (JB) during the periparturient period, the insulin resistance test in vivo and lymphocytes proliferation with insulin in vitro were performed. Ten healthy Holstein dairy cows (Holstein group) and 10 healthy JB cows (JB group) used in this study were observed on days 60, 40, and 20 before calving and days 7 and 20 after calving. In insulin resistance reaction in vivo and in vitro, a low insulin-stimulated glucose disposal rate and lymphocyte proliferation with insulin were observed in the Holstein group compared with the JB group during the experimental period. An analysis of the lymphocytes cultured with insulin showed that the percentage of CD4+CD45R- T cells in the Holstein group was significantly lower than that of the JB group before day 20. These findings indicate that T cells reaction to insulin in healthy periparturient Holstein cows is lower than that in Japanese Black.  相似文献

The effect of dietary administration of bananas on immunocytes in calves was investigated. Twenty Fl hybrid calves were used in this study (treated group n=10, control group n=10). Banana (2 g/kg BW) was administered to the calves for 5 days. Leukocyte subsets were examined on days 0, 5, 10, and 15. The numbers CD3+, (CD3+)CD45R-, and (CD3+)TcR+ cells significantly increased between day 0 and day 5 in the treated group (P<0.01), and were significantly higher on day 5 in the treated group relative to the control group (P<0.05). These data showed that feeding banana to calves increased T-lymphocytes, suggesting it might be possible to enhance protective functions against infections.  相似文献
