Popliteal tendon transposition was performed in five dogs with surgically induced cranial cruciate ligament rupture. After a lateral approach to the stifle joint, the popliteal tendon was severed distal to the sesamoid bone and transposed cranially onto the tibial crest to mimic the sagittal orientation of the cranial cruciate ligament. The origin of the popliteal tendon on the lateral femoral condyle was preserved. Lameness was not clinically detectable 2 months after surgery. At 6 months postoperatively, there was minimal radiographic and histopathologic evidence of degenerative joint disease in the stifle joints that had underwent surgery. There was no gross or microscopic evidence of meniscal damage found at necropsy 6 months after surgery. Biome-chanical studies are warranted before recommending the procedure. 相似文献

Eighteen intact canine cadaver radii underwent nondestructive axial testing, and were osteotomized, plated, and retested. Each bone was tested with and without mediolateral or craniocaudal restriction of motion. Fixation of the osteotomies was performed under static compression with a cranially applied 5-hole 3.5 mm dynamic compression plate, a cranially applied 7-hole 3.5 mm T-plate, or a medially applied 7-hole 2.7 mm dynamic compression plate. There was no loss of axial stiffness after osteotomy and fixation, and there were no differences in axial stiffness between the methods of fixation. Mediolateral stiffness (bending around the craniocaudal axis) was consistently greater than craniocaudal stiffness (bending around the mediolateral axis) before and after osteotomy and plate fixation. There was no difference in the axial stiffness of otherwise intact radii when craniocaudal or mediolateral screw holes were drilled; however, all radii with craniocaudal screw holes and one radius with mediolateral screw holes fractured at a screw hole at high axial loads. 相似文献

Three horses were diagnosed as having esophageal inclusion cysts. Clinical signs included dysphagia, swelling of the cervical esophagus, and salivation. Surgical removal of the cyst was attempted in two horses. Both horses survived, but multiple complications occurred, including esophageal fistulation and neurovascular damage. Marsupialization of the cyst was performed in the third horse. The stoma closed 3 weeks after surgery without complications, and endoscopic examination revealed a grossly normal esophagus. Marsupialization may be preferable to surgical removal for treatment of selected esophageal inclusion cysts in horses. 相似文献

Tube cystostomy was used to treat 13 goats and two sheep with obstructive urolithiasis. The cystostomy tube was intermittently occluded 3 to 4 days after placement to determine if urine could be voided through the urethra. If the animal showed no discomfort during urination after the cystostomy tube had been occluded for several days, the tube was removed. This procedure was successful in relieving urethral obstruction in 12 animals. The mean time until the animal could urinate freely and until the cystostomy tube was removed was 11.5 and 14.4 days respectively. Follow-up was available for 10 animals; seven were alive with no recurrence of urinary obstruction. One goat died from causes unrelated to urinary obstruction 1 year postoperatively. One goat died from unknown causes, and one goat died after urinary obstruction recurred. 相似文献

Accuracy of an esophageal stethoscope combined with a vital signs monitor (VSM) was evaluated as an early predictor of cardiovascular failure during anesthesia. In 10 anesthetized dogs, hypotension and reduction in cardiac output were induced by gradually increasing the inspired halothane concentration. Cardiovascular performance and intensity of heart sounds recorded by the esophageal stethoscope and amplified by the VSM were assessed as depth of anesthesia was increased. Halothane concentration was increased until cardiovascular performance was reduced to a point where heart sounds were no longer audible from the VSM. The esophageal stethoscope in combination with the VSM was easy to use and the unit had an excellent signal to noise ratio. However, usefulness of the esophageal stethoscope as an early predictor of serious cardiovascular depression could not be substantiated. In three dogs, cardiac arrest occurred simultaneously with the loss of heart sounds and in the remaining seven dogs, sound loss occurred when the degree of cardiovascular depression was life threatening. 相似文献

A technique for temporary hepatic vascular occlusion during partial hepatectomy for hepatic arteriovenous (AV) fistulas in the dog is presented in seven dogs, and three additional cases of hepatic AV fistulas are reviewed. Hematologic, serum biochemical, radiologic, and nuclear scintigraphic parameters before and after surgery are discussed; abnormalities included anemia, hypoproteinemia, leukocytosis, increased liver function tests, retrograde filling of the portal vein during celiac angiography, and increased arteriovenous ratios during nuclear scintigraphy. Hemodynamic and pathologic findings are presented, and portal hypertension and secondary multiple portosystemic shunts are described. Objective —To determine what effect the timing of carprofen administration has on the severity of postoperative pain in dogs undergoing ovariohysterectomy and to investigate the pharmacokinetics of carprofen under these conditions. Study Design —A prospective, randomized, double-blind, clinical trial. Animals —Sixty-two adult bitches weighing between 10 and 25 kgs, undergoing elective ovariohysterectomy. Methods —Examinations were performed for 20 hours postoperatively using subjective visual assessment scoring systems (DIVAS) and objective mechanical nociceptive threshold measurements. Forty dogs were assigned to one of three groups: (1) preoperative carprofen; (2) postoperative carprofen; and (3) no analgesics (saline injections). The dose of carprofen was 4.0 mg/kg subcutaneously. In another 22 bitches, the pharmacokinetics of carprofen given preoperatively or postoperatively at the same dose were examined. Results —The dogs given carprofen preoperatively had lower pain scores than the other groups, significantly so at 2 hours postextubation (P < .01 and P < .05, Kruskal-Wallis and post hoc Dunn's). Mechanical pain thresholds measured at the distal tibia showed the development of hyperalgesia at 12 and 20 hours postextubation; this was prevented by both the preoperative (P < .05 at 12 and 20 hours, Kruskal-Wallis) and postoperative (P <.05 at 20 hours, Kruskal-Wallis) administration of carprofen. Mechanical pain threshold testing at the wound showed a significant analgesic effect of carprofen. Plasma concentrations of carprofen were not directly related to analgesia; maximum plasma concentration, the area under the curve to the last data point, and area under the first moment curve up to the last data point were all significantly higher in the dogs given carprofen postoperatively (P < .05, Mann-Whitney). Conclusion—Preoperative administration of carprofen has a greater analgesic effect than postoperative administration in the early postoperative period in dogs undergoing ovariohysterectomy. Plasma levels of carprofen are not related to the degree of analgesia achieved. Clinical Relevance—Carprofen provides effective analgesia after canine ovariohysterectomy. To understand how Japanese sardine eggs vertically disperse in water, we acquired a series of depth‐resolved samples of eggs while tracking a drogued buoy to follow the water mass in which the eggs were spawned. This survey was conducted in early March of 1991, when the sardine population was abundant and actively spawning in the Pacific off Kyushu. Buoyancy of the eggs was estimated by measuring the specific gravity, and was 1–4 × 10?3 less than that of the water in which they were spawned, giving a rising speed of 1–2 mm s?1. In an attempt to diagnose the dynamics underlying the observed vertical profiles of the eggs, a one‐dimensional egg distribution model incorporating the egg rising speed and wind‐ and depth‐dependent vertical diffusivity was formulated. Observed eggs were mainly in the surface mixed layer, and their vertical distribution changed with wind‐induced surface mixing: during strong winds, the eggs were distributed relatively evenly over the upper 60–75 m, whereas during weak winds and shallow pycnocline, the eggs formed a subsurface peak around 25 m depth. The model accurately reproduced these variations in the vertical distributions of eggs, suggesting that the gradients of egg concentration are sensitive to the strength of wind and the structure of underlying hydrography. Further tests with the model showed the importance of positive buoyancy: neutrally buoyant eggs formed subsurface maxima below the food‐rich euphotic zone. The balance of vertical mixing and floating, which allows the eggs to remain in the euphotic zone but away from the near‐surface waters, may be an adaptation to minimize surface‐enhanced predation, while allowing the eggs to hatch in the food‐rich euphotic zone. 相似文献
