The objective of this study was to investigate the influence of NaCl and two salt substitutes, MgSO4 and KCl, in different concentrations (1.5, 6.0, and 9.0%) on meat proteins by using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) microspectroscopy. Hydration properties and secondary structural properties of proteins were investigated by studying the amide I, amide II, and water regions (3500-3000 cm(-1)) in FTIR spectra. By applying multivariate analysis (PCA and PLSR), differences between samples according to salt concentration and salt type were found and correlated to spectral bands. The most distinctive differences related to salt type were obtained by using the water region. It was found that samples salted with MgSO4 exhibited hydration and subsequent denaturation of proteins at lower concentrations than those salted with NaCl. Samples salted with KCl brines showed less denaturation even at the 9.0% concentration. The FTIR results were further supported by water-binding capacity (WBC) measurements. 相似文献

Oxygen microsensors were used to determine oxygen profiles in situ from the top to the bottom layer of the growing medium for potted plants of Rosa sp. ‘Dior’. The growing medium was peat- based and compacted uniformly to 3 different bulk densities of 0.14, 0.18 and 0.23 g cm−3 (0, 20 and 40% compacted, respectively). The water distribution in the pot was determined as water content (g cm−3) in the top, middle and bottom layers of the peat. Oxygen content was also determined after a standard subirrigation cycle and after excessive irrigation where the bottom of the pots were left waterlogged for 24 h. Measurements were carried out at 5.5 weeks during the production phase and at 12 weeks at the end of the production. The results showed that with increasing compaction and density, more water was transported to the upper layers of the pot. After a standard irrigation cycle there was no effect of the level of medium compaction on the oxygen distribution, whereas after excessive irrigation, the oxygen contents at the bottom of the pots were strongly reduced and the level of compaction significantly affected oxygen availability. The most compacted medium had the lowest oxygen content at 5.5 weeks, with anoxic conditions in the bottom 30 mm. Plant quality measured as fresh weight, dry weight, height and number of shoots with flowers and buds was not affected by the different levels of compaction. The use of oxygen microsensors provided a new insight into the spatial and temporal distribution of oxygen in growing media and how this was affected by the physical characteristics of the growing media. 相似文献

Fusarium culmorum and F. equiseti were characterized with regard to production of trichothecenes and other secondary metabolites. Results following growth on laboratory media are interpreted with the aim of increasing the understanding of fungal metabolism in the field environment. While trichothecene production was detected for 94 of 102 F. culmorum isolates, only 8 of 57 F. equiseti isolates were positive. Profiles of secondary metabolites were compared by following growth on yeast extract sucrose agar (YES), potato sucrose agar (PSA), and an agar medium, prepared from soil organic matter (SOM), which was included to simulate growth conditions in soil. SOM supported the production of chrysogine by F. culmorum. The two species utilized the media differently. F. culmorumproduced zearalenone (ZEA) on YES, whereas some F. equiseti isolates produced ZEA on PSA. Other F. equiseti isolates produced equisetin. These differences may reflect that F. culmorum depends on a pathogenic life style while F. equiseti has a more saprotrophic mode of existence. 相似文献

Abstract The effects of catch crops on the nitrogen nutrition of a succeeding carrot crop were investigated. An attempt was made to distinguish the effects of growth and nitrogen uptake by the catch crop from the effect of mineralization of its residues. It was found that growth and nitrogen uptake by catch crops could reduce the nitrogen supply to the succeeding carrot crop through pre-emptive competition, whereas mineralization of nitrogen from the catch crop residues increased the nitrogen supply to the carrot crop. Nitrogen uptake by the carrots was thus highest where catch crop residues were incorporated on plots where no catch crop had been grown. The effect of the mineralization was found mainly to influence topsoil mineral nitrogen contents and the early nitrogen uptake by carrots, whereas the effect of pre-emptive competition was to reduce subsoil mineral nitrogen content and the nitrogen uptake by carrots late in the growing season. The apparent recovery of catch crop nitrogen by carrots was between 8 and 33%. 相似文献

Field and greenhouse pot experiments were conducted to evaluate the potential to use intercropping as an alternative method to increase glucosinolates in Brassicas by manipulating nitrogen (N) and sulfur (S) balance by intercropping with lettuce (Lactuca sativa L. var. capitata). In both experiments, four combinations of N and S fertilization were used. In the field experiment no effect of intercropping on the total glucosinolate concentration was found as the growing lettuce was strongly inhibited by the presence of broccoli (Brassica oleracea L. var. italic). In contrast to this, in the pot experiment both total and individual glucosinolate concentrations in red leaf mustard (Brassica juncea L.) increased by intercropping. Fertilization treatments influenced glucosinolate concentrations in both experiments, and an interaction between N and S fertilization was noticed. 相似文献

Shear properties of clear softwood from Norway spruce were investigated by means of the Arcan shear test. The test enabled fairly detailed measurements of pure shear until failure in each of the three orthotropic shear planes, where video extensometry was used for strain measurements. A total number of 85 specimens were tested in 6 different configurations. A varying degree of nonlinearity was observed between the different configurations and material planes, especially for rolling shear. The stress–strain curves were adapted with linear, bilinear and Voce models. Compared to the linearized variant, it was found that the bilinear model generally increases the model accuracy by a factor of approximately two, whereas the Voce model showed even higher accuracy, although its adaptive robustness was somewhat lower. The parameters demonstrated low correlations to density, whereas the correlations with the initial shear moduli in many cases were considerably higher and significant. Free-range pig production is typically associated with high risks of nitrogen (N) leaching due to the pigs excretory behaviour creating nitrogen ‘hotspots’ and rooting behaviour destroying the grass sward. This challenge is reinforced at high animal densities causing high nitrogen deposition. A combined production of pigs and perennial energy crops was hypothesized to benefit the environment because crops like miscanthus (Miscanthus), willow (Salix) and poplar (Populus) may persist despite pig rooting, take up nutrients and thereby minimise N-losses. Thus, the aim was to assess the risk of nitrate leaching by investigating the distribution of soil mineral N as influenced by stocking density in a system with zones of perennial energy crops and grass. For each of two seasons 36 growing pigs with an initial mean live weight of 55 kg (spring) and 48 kg (autumn), respectively, were separated into 6 paddocks of two stocking densities (117 and 367 m2 pig?1), respectively. Soil mineral N was measured in 0–25 and 25–75 cm depth at three occasions. N balances showed that N inputs exceeded N outputs by 626 and 185 kg N ha?1 for high and low stocking density. The pigs caused an uneven distribution of mineral N across the paddocks with highest contents in zones with willow & poplar. Stocking density had a significant effect on soil mineral N. Immediately after the second batch of pigs, average mineral N in the 0–75 cm soil layer was on average 227 and 83 kg N ha?1 at high and low stocking density, respectively. During winter period with no pigs, soil mineral N content in the 0–75 cm soil layer was reduced by almost 100 kg N ha?1 in paddocks with high stocking density against only 4 kg in paddocks with low stocking density. It is concluded that risk of elevated nitrate leaching compared to other cropping systems was low at the low stocking density, which therefore represents a promising pathway for a combined production of energy crops and free-range pigs. 相似文献

Determining genotypic responses to soil fertility may assist selection of cultivars that can be adapted to varied soil fertility regimes, and such selection under field conditions is still limited. A two-year field experiment was conducted in long-term field trials to investigate wheat genotype effects on early growth, yield and nutrient accumulation as affected by varied long-term soil fertility managements and nitrogen (N) fertilization. Results show that the early growth, grain yield and nutrient accumulation of spring wheat plants were strongly affected by soil fertility managements and genotypes. Early shoot and root biomass of singly grown plants and leaf canopy growth under standard growth density was associated with subsequent grain yield of plants under standard growth density across the gradient in soil fertility levels. Taifun and Thasos had stable higher yield and N and phosphorus (P) uptake across varied soil fertility regimes compared with other genotypes. Økilde, however, increased yield by 8–34% and N and P accumulation by 1–22% only when grown in the high organic manure treatment compared with other genotypes, indicating that it is more adapted to high organic fertility regimes. Therefore, the different responses and adaptations of genotypes to soil fertility regimes should be included during selection of cultivars. 相似文献
