Several Ponto‐Caspian gobiid species have recently expanded their ranges in Europe and North America. This is the first study to demonstrate passive downstream dispersal (drift) of the round goby (Neogobius melanostomus) and tubenose goby (Proterorhinus semilunaris) in newly colonised areas (River Dyje, Danube basin), a factor that could play an important role in their dispersal. Drift duration (i.e. number of dates on which the species was caught) in round goby was longer than that of both native species and tubenose goby, providing a possible advantage. Size of drifting fish was restricted to a narrow range of 6–8 mm and 5–8 mm for round and tubenose goby, respectively. Drift in both species occurred almost completely during hours of darkness (<1 lux) and fish size did not vary throughout the night. In both species, drift density increased significantly during the first hour after dusk. Round goby density gradually decreased up to dawn, while tubenose goby density varied throughout the night with no clear pattern. Drift of early life stages appears to be an important phenomenon that has not received adequate attention in studies of round and tubenose goby ecology and dispersal.  相似文献

Bloodforms of Trypanosoma brucei brucei STIB 247 taken from rats and containing more than 80 per cent short stumpy forms, differentiated in vitro to procyclic forms in medium SDM 79 (Brun and Sch?nenberger 1979), enriched with 3 mmol.dm-3 cis-aconitate. Cell division was abolished by the addition of hydroxyurea (200 micrograms.ml-1) or arabinosyl adenine (20 micrograms.ml-1 to the cultivation medium, or by the omission of serum from the medium. The ultrastructure of exponentially growing controls was rearranged within 24 h. The endogenous respiration and the respiration stimulated by proline, succinate, and 2-oxoglutarate were detectable within 12 h; after 48 h the respiration rates were comparable to those found in the established procyclic forms. After 12 h the respiration was inhibited by 200 mumol.dm-3 KCN, and by 20 mumol.dm-3 antimycin to the extent found in procyclic forms. Hydroxyurea did not significantly affect respiration. Activities of procyclic-stage enzyme markers malate dehydrogenase, threonine dehydrogenase, succinate: cytochrome c reductase, and NADH: cytochrome c reductase rose within 48 h of differentiation to values which were close to those found in established procyclic forms. The activity of glutamate dehydrogenase (NAD-specific), however, was only 1/3 of that in the procyclics, and no citrate synthase was detected in differentiating culture. Glycosomal malate dehydrogenase was detected after 6 h. In the presence of hydroxyurea or arabinosyl adenine, or in the absence of serum, respiration rates, marker enzyme activities, and glycosomal malate dehydrogenase developed to the extent comparable to the untreated controls. The results suggest that it is possible to separate the process of differentiation from cell proliferation. Cell division is not a necessary prerequisite of differentiation.  相似文献

During the infection caused by Trichinella pseudospiralis serious damage to muscles is partly compensated with regeneration process. Short, thin fibrillae with central position of the nuclei--regenerating myotubes originate 20--40th day post infection in endomysial tubes remaining after damaged muscle fibres, left by migrating larva. On the 10th day post infection in the vicinity of moving larva activation of nuclei and increased origin of satellite cells under basal membrane occur. With development of the infection endothelia in the vicinity of altered fibrillae are increasing in number but there is small inflammatory and fibroproductive reaction only. During the infection caused by Trichinella spiralis and T. nativa, alteration of muscle fibres is accompanied by early inflammatory and fibroproductive reaction towards immediate surroundings of larvae. In a changed segment of muscle fibre with the larva--in pseudocyst there is altered basal lamina as well, built in increased glycocalyx and in the course of 20 days encased by connective tissue. Revascularisation and regeneration in a short damaged segment does not occur even during long-lasting infection because of separation by capsule.  相似文献

Circulating antibodies to larval Argas polonicus antigen detected in the blood of pigeons by means of ELISA reach their highest level 3-6 days post-tick attachment. During 6-8 days post infestation when most larvae detach from their host, there is an abrupt drop of the antibody level in blood followed by second peak at day 10-15. During the secondary and subsequent infestations the dynamics of the antibody production is analogous, but the maximum absorbance values found are higher with each following infestation. This is in direct correlation with the growth of immune resistance of hosts. The transfer of immunoglobulins of resistant pigeons produces in naive hosts a partial resistance in a statistically significant (P less than 0.01) reduction of the number of engorged larvae, in the shortening of larval feeding period and in the decrease of their mean weight after feeding. However this resistance was significantly (P less than 0.01) less expressed than in naturally resistant pigeons during secondary infestation. The protracted effect on the duration of premoulting period and the percentage of moulted larvae manifested in larvae after secondary infestation was not apparent in molecular weight of approximately 19, 21, 23, 27, 45 and 165 kilodaltons, were recognized by serum of resistant pigeons.  相似文献

The ultrastructure of the flame cell, excretory capillaries, ducts, collecting ducts, excretory bladder, and excretory pore of Brachylaimus aequans was studied 6-8 days p.i. The excretory ducts, collecting ducts and excretory bladder are provided with numerous lamellae on the luminal side. The cilia of lateral flames in the excretory ducts have a triated rootlet. The excretory pore is covered by a tegument identical with the body tegument. The syncytium of the excretory bladder is connected with the tegument of the excretory pore by means of a septate desmosome. No lipid or excretory corpuscles have been demonstrated in the excretory system.  相似文献

Using counterimmunoelectrophoresis and ELISA tests the dynamics of antibody production in serum of mice experimentally infected with Toxascaris leonina was studied. The production of antibodies using both tests has already been detectable in serum of mice from 7 days post infection (DPI) and their level persisted till the end of the experiment, i.e. till 77 DPI. We tested the virulence of 15 strains of Entamoeba histolytica, imported to Czechoslovakia, by intracaecal inoculation of laboratory rats. According to the scoring system of Neal, none of the 15 strains possessed the virulence index greater than 2. This indicates that all the organisms tested should be classified as avirulent. However, it should be noted that all the strains produced infection of the caecum and thus should be considered infective for rat. For 7 strains, isoenzyme patterns were determined for PGM, HK and ME. One imported strain, obtained from student from Congo, demonstrated isoenzyme pattern for PGM and HK indicated that the strain was virulent. This organisms had the index of virulence 1.8 (avirulent) in animal experiment; it was isolated from cysts of clinically asymptomatic patient. Examination of the rectal mucosa of the donor of the strain indicated typical chronic catarrhal proctitis of mild degree. Examination of the patient's serum demonstrated the presence of anti E. histolytica antibodies by CIEP, while the ELISA test was negative. Twenty-one cyst carriers were examined by rectoscopy. Pathologic changes were observed in 20 of these, as follows: altered vascular structure (13X), roughened mucosa (12X), mucosal reddening (10X), decreased glistening (7X), mucus in mucosa (5X), inflammatory pseudopolypes (2X), ulcers (2X), enanthema (1X). Histological biopsies were obtained in 15 cases. One was considered normal. Remaining 14 biopsies exhibited following morphological changes: increased mucus secretion (8X), edema (7X), lymphocytic and plasmocytic infiltration (6X), lymphocytic and plasmocytic infiltration in addition to the presence of eosinophilic granulocytes (6X), presence of mucophages (5X), haemorrhages (4X), increased vascularity (3X), lymphocytic and plasmocytic infiltration with presence of extremely abundant eosinophilic granulocytes (1X), erosive-ulcerative changes of mucosa (1X). The changes observed indicated chronic catarrhal proctitis with expression to greater or less degree of signs of chronic catarrhal inflammation.  相似文献

The life cycle of Rubenstrema opisthovitellinum So?tys, 1954, a parasite of shrews, is elucidated. The following developmental stages are described in detail: daughter sporocyst, cercaria, metacercaria, and adult. The freshwater snail Planorbarius corneus was found to be the first intermediate host in nature. The metacercariae were obtained from the larvae of mosquitoes Culex molestus and only exceptionally from snails Physa acuta. The adults were obtained from the small intestine of hamsters Mesocricetus auratus. The life cycle and the larval stages of R. opisthovitellinum are described for the first time.  相似文献

The asexual reproduction of Sarcocystis dispersa was studied in the liver of the house mouse. Histopathological examinations revealed infection of parenchymal cells with the parasite and diffuse cellular infiltrations with the presence of polymorphonuclear cells, monocytes and eosinophilic leukocytes. The volume and number of cellular infiltrates increased gradually from day 3 till day 10 p.i. Then appeared necrotic foci and both phenomena reached the maximum on days 10-12 p.i. On days 21-34 p.i., no changes occurred in the tissue and the liver healed without scars. The infection of common vole with Sarcocystis cernae sporocysts caused cellular infiltrations in the liver around the portobiliary veins. The parasite was present from day 3 till day 7 p.i. The histopathological picture of liver changes was similar to that in the house mouse.  相似文献

Samples of blood sera collected from 608 sheep in large farms of the districts of Trebisov, Michalovce, Vranov nad Toplou and Humenné were investigated in hemagglutination-inhibition test for the presence of mosquito-borne viruses Sindbis, West Nile, Tahyna and Calovo. Antibodies to arboviruses Tahyna (11.5%) and Calovo (10.9%) were detected most frequently, while a lower sero-positivity was recorded to the Sindbis (2.3%) and West-Nile (1.0%) viruses. Certain differences were found in the infection rates in the respective districts: the highest frequency of antibodies to Tahyna and Calovo viruses was recorded in sheep of the district of Trebisov and the lowest one in animals of the district of Humenné.  相似文献
