The use of methylcyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl (MMT) in unleaded gasoline has become a source of manganese (Mn) contamination to which urban ecosystems are exposed. The potential of coniferous trees as spatial and chronological indicators of Mn pollutation was investigated. Manganese concentrations in xylem from blue spruce (Picea pungens) growing near (high-exposure site) and far (low-exposure site) from a road were measured as a function of the year of wood formation. Exchangeable Mn content, which is the soil fraction most readily available for uptake by trees, was also measured in the soils of both sectors. The results of the soil analysis show that exchangeable Mn concentrations are about 10 times higher in soils exposed to contamination (p<0.0005), in=" comparison=" with=" the=" concentrations=" found=" in=" soils=" weakly=" exposed.=" however,=" the=" mn=" concentrations=" in=" the=" trees=" near=" the=" road=" were=" not=" significantly=" different=" from=" those=" in=" the=" reference=" trees=" (p=">0.05). Therefore, it appears that blue spruce is not sensitive to soil Mn contamination arising from the use of MMT in gasoline.  相似文献

Pop‐up archival tags (PAT) provide summary and high‐resolution time series data at predefined temporal intervals. The limited battery capabilities of PATs often restrict the transmission success and thus temporal coverage of both data products. While summary data are usually less affected by this problem, as a result of its lower size, it might be less informative. We here investigate the accuracy and feasibility of using temperature at depth summary data provided by PATs to describe encountered oceanographic conditions. Interpolated temperature at depth summary data was found to provide accurate estimates of three major thermal water column structure indicators: thermocline depth, stratification and ocean heat content. Such indicators are useful for the interpretation of the tagged animal's horizontal and vertical behaviour. The accuracy of these indicators was found to be particularly sensitive to the number of data points available in the first 100 m, which in turn depends on the vertical behaviour of the tagged animal. Based on our results, we recommend the use of temperature at depth summary data as opposed to temperature time series data for PAT studies; doing so during the tag programming will help to maximize the amount of transmitted time series data for other key data types such as light levels and depth.  相似文献

Floods are known to be the major source of natural variability and disturbance in stream ecosystems. However, the management and channelisation of large rivers have impacted the fluvial geomorphology and disconnected the main channel and floodplains used as nurseries by many species of fish. This study examines the influence of a first autumnal flood event of the Ardèche River on the roach population, Rutilus rutilus (Linnaeus, 1758), in the Caderousse reach on the Rhône River. This influence was evaluated through an analysis of the spatial distribution for the abundance and size of juvenile roach and an analysis of otolith shape. Juvenile roach from the three sections of the reach formed well‐defined local populations before and after the flood event. Juvenile roach were always more abundant in the less modified section (BPS) of the river than in the other sections (RES and TAIL). While the original primary river channel was directly impacted by the flash flood, no significant difference in otolith shape was observed before or after the flash flood. Our results suggest that this part of the reach provides refuge habitats used by fish during high flow events.  相似文献

Temporal release and retention of aroma compounds from structured emulsions (where unsaturated monoglycerides are added to the oil) and conventional oil-in-water emulsions were studied using in vitro dynamic headspace analysis by proton-transfer reaction mass spectrometry and static headspace analysis by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Under dynamic conditions, the structured emulsion exhibited delayed release compared to the oil-in-water emulsion containing the same lipid content of 5%. The time to maximum concentration T max of amphiphilic and lipophilic aroma compounds increased by a factor of 1.2 (for 3 E-hexenal) to 1.9 (for octanal). The aroma release profile of the 5% lipid structured emulsion was close to that obtained for the oil-in-water emulsion containing 10% lipid. Under static conditions, the 5% lipid structured emulsion retained more of the most lipophilic aroma compounds than its counterpart 5% oil-in-water nonstructured emulsion. The present study provides potential solutions for modulating aroma release profiles of reduced-fat foods by self-assembly structures.  相似文献

The temporal change in the headspace composition of an aroma model mimicking Longjing green tea aroma was studied in the presence of nonvolatile Longjing green tea constituents. Upon storage at 50 degrees C, the formation of 2-butyl-2-octenal was found, which increased with time. This enal was generated by crotonization of hexanal as demonstrated in model experiments. The formation of 2-butyl-2-octenal was also detected in Longjing tea infusions and Longjing tea leaves upon storage at 50 degrees C. The presence of nonvolatiles induced a strong decrease in aroma release. These effects were mainly due to catechins, major constituents of green tea infusion. Free amino acids, that is, glycine, contributed only to significantly decrease alpha,beta-unsaturated carbonyl aroma compounds, that is, 1-octen-3-one and geranial. Model reaction containing a mixture of 1-octen-3-one and glycine indicated on the basis of NMR and MS data the formation of the tentatively identified N-1-(3-oxo-octyl)glycine resulting from a 1,4-addition. The perceived aroma of green tea infusion is very likely to be affected by the formation of new aroma compounds and the changes in aroma release affected by interactions with tea nonvolatile components. This deserves further investigations on the sensory level.  相似文献

Reciprocal recurrent selection (RRS) exploits the genetic complementarity of dura populations of palms with a small number of large bunches and tenera/pisifera group of palms with large number of small bunches. An extra phase was introduced to RRS just after the second cycle of selection where outstanding dura derived from (DA3D × DA5D) combinations of the second cycle were self-pollinated for seed production. Best palms based on the phenotype were selected and crossed with pisifera of second cycle offspring of LM2T. [(DA3D × DA5D) self-pollinated × LM2T self-pollinated] progenies were field tested at La Dibamba (Cameroun) from 1987 to 1997. They were precocious with regard to the three-first years’ bunch yields (13.16–15.77 t/ha). Homogeneity for all bunch yield components and homogeneity for vertical growth were illustrated by low values of the variation coefficient (5.75–7.75%). The oil yield was 107% of the control against 115% from [(DA3D × DA5D) × LM2T self-pollinated] progenies of the second cycle of RRS, mostly due to poor mesocarp to fruit and poor oil to mesocarp ratios which led to a low oil extraction rate. The extra selection phase led mainly to homogenisation of progenies but also reduced the fruit quality. However, three progenies whose average oil yield represented 115% of the control (4.87 t/ha) in addition to their precocity can be released to oil palm growers. The extension of RRS did not fully meet expectations and poses the problem of its reliability.  相似文献

The nucleotide sequence of 5S RNA derived from KB carcinoma cell ribosomes has been determined. The molecule has a length of either 120 or 121 nucleotides with uridine at its 3'-terminus and guanylic acid at its 5'-terminus. If, in addition to Watson-Crick base-pairing, one accepts occasional base-pairing of guanylic acid to uridylic acid, long sequences of complementary nucleotides can be identified within the molecule. Two regions of the molecule contain sequences complementary to four or five bases in the pentanucleotide sequence guanylic acid, ribothymidylic acid, pseudouridylic acid, cytidylic acid, guanylic acid, which is common to most transfer RNA molecules. This is the first time the sequence of an animal-cell RNA has been determined.  相似文献
