Assessment of Transmission Ability of Barley Yellow Dwarf Virus-PAV Isolates by Different Populations of Rhopalosiphum padi and Sitobion avenae 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1

Populations of two aphid species from different geographic regions of Morocco were tested for their ability to transmit five barley yellow dwarf virus-PAV (BYDV-PAV) type isolates using Clintland 64 oat as the test plant. Transmission efficiencies were determined for 10 sub-populations of Rhopalosiphum padi and 12 sub-populations of Sitobion avenae. After a short acquisition access period (AAP) of 4h, all populations transmitted the virus but with different efficiencies. R. padi (Rp-S) and S. avenae (Sa-S) collected in the Settat region were the most efficient vectors, with transmission rates of 38% and 27%, respectively. R. padi (Rp-C) collected at Chaouen and S. avenae (Sa-B) at Berkane, were poor transmitters with respective vectoring abilities of 20% and 16%. These four sub-populations were chosen to study the acquisition of BYDV-PAV and the retention of virus within aphids in more detail. The transmission after two AAPs of 4h and 48h were compared. Starved aphids given a 4h AAP had significantly higher transmission efficiencies than non-starved aphids. However, after a 48h AAP, no difference was observed in the transmission between starved and non-starved aphids. Intraspecific variability was also detected by means of serial transfers of individual aphids after the given AAP. Following the first day of serial transfers, no differences were observed in transmission efficiency and virus titers for sub-populations within each species acquiring the virus during 48h, but there was significant variation when the virus was acquired in 4h. The levels of PAV antigen retained by aphids fed on healthy plants declined rapidly during the first day after acquisition, but remained fairly constant during the next 5–7 days depending on the length of the AAP. Virus antigen could be detected by ELISA in Rp-S and Sa-S for up to 11 days of serial transfer, but it was shown that aphids could retain and transmit BYDV-PAV for at least 3 weeks. 相似文献

The antigen detection enzyme immunoassay (AgELISA) in conjunction with parasitological examination of blood were used to study the enzootic situation of cameline trypanosomiasis in mid-Eastern Sudan. A one year survey showed that the infection is endemic among pastoral camels with a prevalence of 5.4% based on parasitological examination and 31.3% based on AgELISA. The infection rate was higher during the dry period (November to May) than the wet season. Young camels had a much lower infection rate as detected by parasitological techniques, but not with AgELISA. A lower prevalence of infection was detected by buffy coat technique (BCT) in herds of camels raised by nomads compared with those kept by agropastoralists and in camels located in the southern districts of mid-Eastern Sudan. 相似文献

The magnitude of nitrogen fixation in an inorganic fertilized and cereal fed system (fish pond) was measured by an in situ application of the acetylene reduction method. The effects of inorganic fertilization were intensively examined. In comparison with natural lakes, the fish ponds exhibited a relatively low fixation rate. The midday nitrogen fixation rate was usually less than 30 μg at N·m?2·h?1. The total income was equal to 5.7 kg N·ha?1 or 0.575 g N·m?2 for the growing season. Fish-induced bioperturbation and nitrogen fertilization, in the form of inorganic and organic fertilizers and foods, are considered to be the major regulatory factors in nitrogen fixation. 相似文献

Summary Potato blackleg has been known in Roumania for more than 35 years, but has become increasingly serious in recent times. The
disease is mainly restricted to the central and northern regions, which have a rainy climate with moderate temperatures. In
areas where the climate is warm and dry, the disease appears only sporadically, and even then, its development is slow. The
principal means of transmission of the disease from one year to another is by infected tubers, the causal organ does not persist
long in unsterile soil.
Potato blackleg and soft rot in Roumania is produced not only byE. atroseptica, for an important part in the disease complex especially in storage is played by the bacteriaE. carotovora andE. aroideae. E. atroseptica, owing to its special preference for the stems of the plants, is considered as the principal pathogenic agent, while the
other two organisms occur more frequently in the tubers.
It is considered that the divergent characteristics of the organisms justify keeping them as two or even three separate species
and not as variants of a single species.

Zusammenfassung In den Jahren 1961 bis 1963 wurden am Biologischen Institut Traian Savulescu in Bukarest, Rum?nien, Untersuchungen durchgeführt über die Verbreitung der Schwarzbeinigkeit bei Kartoffeln im Zusammenhang mit den klimatischen Verh?ltnissen in Rum?nien, mit den Bedingungen, unter welchen die Infektion und die übertragung der Krankheit stattfindet, mit der Etiologie der Krankheit in Rum?nien und mit gewissen charakteristischen Eigenschaften der Krankheitserreger. Kartoffel-Schwarzbeinigkeit ist in Rum?nien schon seit mehr als 35 Jahren bekannt, aber in letzter Zeit hat sie ernstere Formen angenommen. Die Infektion im Feld schwankt von 1–15% und nimmt w?hrend der Lagerung zu. Die Krankheit beschr?nkt sich haupts?chlich auf die zentralen und n?rdlichen Regionen des Landes, wo ein regnerisches Klima mit m?ssigen Temperaturen vorherrscht. Im Süden, wo Frühling und Sommer in der Regel heiss und trocken sind, scheint sie eigentlich nicht vorzukommen, selbst nicht in Feldern, die mit Knollen aus befallenen Gebieten bepflanzt sind. Es ist festgestellt worden, dass die übertragung dieser Krankheit von einem Jahr auf das andere haupts?chlich durch befallene Knollen geschieht. Der Boden bildet nur in dem Mass eine Infektionsquelle, als er nicht verfaulte Reste von kranken Pflanzen enth?lt. Es wurde dargelegt, dass die Bakterien in nicht sterilem Boden ihre überlebensf?higkeit rasch verlieren (Tabelle 1). Was die Etiologie der Schwarzbeinigkeit betrifft, wurde herausgefunden, dass nebenErwinia atroseptica—in Rum?nien bis jetzt als die einzige Ursache dieser Krankheit angenommen — auchE. carotovora undE. aroideae, speziell w?hrend der Lagerung, eine wichtige Rolle im Krankheitskomplex spielen. Unsere Beobachtungen und Untersuchungen haben ergeben, dassE. atroseptica der Hauptkrankheitserreger im Feld ist, der besonders die Stengel bef?llt. Die beiden andern Bakterien kommen ebenfalls vor, doch werden sie gew?hnlich auf den Knollen am Lager gefunden, wo sie — unter günstigen Bedingungen — einen viel h?ufigeren Befall erzeugen k?nnen alsE. atroseptica. Es wurde festgestellt, dass sowohl Eigenschaften, wie der Grad der Pathogenit?t an Stengeln und Knollen, Reaktionen auf Zuckern und besonders das Verhalten auf Maltose und auf durchtr?nktes Korn-Pepton-Glukose-Agar-Medium, das Wachstum bei hohen Temperaturen (Tabelle 2) und serologische Reaktionen (Tabelle 3) wie auch toxische und immunologische Wirkungen auf Tiere bei der Unterscheidung der drei Bakterien von Nutzen sind. Es wird darauf hingewiesen, dass die hier berichteten Ergebnisse die Ansicht jener Forscher best?rken und rechtfertigen, die glauben, dass die drei Bakterien als verschiedene Arten betrachtet werden sollten.
Résumé A l'Institut de Biologie Traian Savulescu à Bucarest. Roumanie, les recherches suivantes ont été effectuées durant la période 1961–1963; l'apparition de la maladie de la jambe noire en relation avec les conditions climatiques en Roumanie, les conditions sous lesquelles ont lieu l'infection et la transmission de la maladie, l'étiologie de la maladie en Roumanie et certains caractères des pathogènes. La jambe noire de la Pomme de terre est connue en Roumanie depuis plus de 35 ans mais est devenue progressivement grave dans les derniers temps. L'infection dans les champs varie de 1 à 15% et augmente pendant la conservation. La maladie est essentiellement limitée aux régions du centre et du nord du pays qui ont un climat pluvieux et des températures modérées. Dans le sud, où le printemps et l'été sont habituellement chauds et secs, la jambe noire semble être réellement absente, même dans les champs plantés avec des tubercules provenant de régions infectées. Il a été établi que la transmission de la maladie d'une année à l'autre a lieu principalement par les tubercules infectés, le sol étant la source d'infection dans la seule mesure où il contient des restes non détruits de plantes malades. Il a été démontré que les bactéries perdent rapidement leur viabilité dans les sols non stériles (Tableau 1). Concernant l'étiologie de la jambe noire, on a trouvé que outreErwinia atroseptica que, jusqu'à présent, on croyait être la seule cause de la maladie en Roumanie,E. carotovora etE. aroideae jouent également un r?le important, spécialement pendant la conservation. Selon nos observations et expériences,E. atroseptica est le principal agent pathogène dans le champ, montrant une préférence marquée pour les tiges, tandis qu'apparaissent aussi les deux autres bactéries qui, toutefois, sont plus communément trouvées sur les tubercules pendant la conservation; à ce moment, sous des conditions favorables, les attaques de ces dernières peuvent être beaucoup plus grandes que celles deE. atroseptica. Les déterminations des comportements suivants se sont révélées pleinement utiles pour différencier les trois bactéries: les degrés d'attaques sur tiges et tubercules, les réactions sur sucres et spécialement leurs réactions sur maltose et sur milieu agar glucose peptone de grains trempés, leur développement à hautes températures (Tpableau 2) et leurs réactions sérologiques (Tpableau 3) aussi bien comme effets toxiques qu'immunologiques sur les animaux. Les résultats rapportés ici prouvent et développent les vues de ces chercheurs qui croient que les trois bactéries seraient à considérer comme espèces séparées.

The carob tree (Ceratonia siliqua L.) is an important economic resource for Morocco's rural populations. This species is used in reforestation actions and its cultivation in modern orchards is being undertaken to valorize marginal lands and substitute for drought sensitive species. However, little data is available on its intra-specific variability and its adaptability. Morphological characters of pods and seeds from 13 ecoregions of private-domesticated carob were used to assess phenotypic variation of this species. These stands extend from south-west to north-east and cover a wide range of Morocco's ecoregions. Pods length, width, thickness, seeds number, pulp weight, seeds yield and seeds length, width, thickness and weight were measured for 390 trees (30 trees per ecoregion). Statistically significant differences were found between ecoregions for all characters which were examined, what indicates a high phenotypic diversity. Principal component analysis (PCA) and hierarchical cluster of all ecoregions lead to identify two major and opposite groups (the northern ecoregions; and the central and south-western ecoregions). Ecoregions of the north of Morocco exhibited the largest and the thickest pods with the highest pulp weight while other ecoregions have relatively short pods but largest proportion of seed yield. Similarly, the northern ecoregions are characterized by the heaviest seeds. A correlation matrix between morphological characters, geographic parameters and precipitation exhibits a positive and a negative correlation of pods thickness and pulp weight with the latitude and the altitude, respectively. Seed yield and weight are negatively and positively correlated to pod width, pod thickness and pulp weight, respectively. In addition, seed weight is positively correlated with the latitude. The geographic pattern of the carob tree and its variability are discussed in this paper. 相似文献

The method of lung lavage under fiberoptic control allowed collection of alveolar cells in non-anaesthetized adult cows.The median section of the diaphragmatic lobe was lavaged with five consecutive aliquots of 30 ml each. Every one was analysed separately. A mean of 25.6% of instilled fluid was recovered and this is lower than amounts obtained on isolated lungs or in anaesthetized calves (about 50%).The cellular formula of 30 samples showed 83.5% of macrophages, 6.0% of lymphocytes, 9.4% of polymorphonuclear cells, 0.5% of monocytes. Cellular viability and total cell count were similar to previously published data. All results were found to be independent of the washing sequence. This simple and well tolerated technique appeared to be a useful tool for the study of defence mechanisms of deep lung. 相似文献

Summary The process of absorption of water along the tangential direction of the wood is studied by immersing the sample in water. The transport of water is then obtained below the fiber saturation point at the beginning of the absorption and above this fiber saturation point during the process. The potential which drives the transport of the bound-water and free-water through the wood has been considered by testing a diffusional transport model. The transient diffusion with a constant diffusivity has been found to describe not only the process of absorption but also the process of desorption with diffusion of water through the solid and evaporation from the surface. Analytical solutions have been successfully used to describe the stage of absorption during a time of four hours at the end of which an equilibrium of absorption is attained, as well as the following stage of desorption. A model based on a numerical method with finite differences has been found to describe the process of absorption and desorption in various cases, and especially when the equilibrium of absorption has not been attained.This work was carried out with the help and support of the M. Damit aus diesem Verjüngungspotential Naturverjüngung entstchen kann, müssen die en tsprechenden überschirmungsverh?ltnisse
lurch den Altbestand gegeben sein. Für die Dichte, Baumartenztusammenset zung and H?henentwicklung der Naturverjüngungspflanzen
ist n?mlich die Uberschirrnung von ganz ent-scheidender Bedeutung. In einem sehr dichten Altbestand, in derv der überschirmungsgrad
fiber 75% liegt , haben Verjüngungspflanzen Schwierigkeiten, sick zu etablieren. Eine Ieichte Auflichtung auf einen über-schirmungsgrad
von 60 (der dann gegeben ist, wenn die rich unter dem Schirm entwickelnde Bodenvege cation Bedeckungsgrade zwischen 20 and

Summary In 1976, a research project entitled ’Natural Regeneration of Mixed Mountain Forests ’ was etablished in the Calcareous Alps
of eastern Bavaria, by the Chair of Silviculture and Forest Management of the University Of Munich. Over the past ten years,
the multi-variate aspects of regenaration have bean intensively investigated on 25 permanent research plots. The data from
5 selected plats were extracted and processed. from these data, it will be possible to present some fundamental principles
of natural regenaration processes. From these prin-ciples, it is hoped that some practical applications can be derived.
The mature stands of mixed mountain forests are still able to produce high quantities and good quality of seed, although distinct
symptoms of forest decline are present.
In order to utilize this potential for natural regeneration, an adequate canopy density is necessary. Canopy density is the
crucial factor which regulates the density, species composition and height development of regeneration. In a very heavily,
stocked mature stand with a canopy density of over 75 establishment of regenerations is difficult. When canopy density is
reduced to, for example, 60% (this percentage can be estimated from a ground vegetation covering approximately 20–30 of the
soil), the naturally regenerated, plants have a better opportunity to survive. A 60% canopy density can be achieved by light
shelterwood cutting (removal of approximately 25% of basal area of a closed stand). This type of cutting can maintain the
stability and prevent increment loss of forest stands. It is important that regeneration is established before opening up
the stand, only, then these plants are capable to compete with the other ground vegetation.
Planting is always appropriate when natural regeneration fails.
Fencing is necessary for undisturbed development of natural and artificial regeneration.

The genetic variation in seed weight, seed number per kg and seedling traits was compared among eight Acacia senegal provenances originating from the clay plain (east) and sand plains (west) of the gum belt in Sudan. The main objective of
this study was to identify germplasm sources of A. senegal that have a good seed germination capacity and seedling traits suitable for reforestation in the clay-soil part of the dryland
gum belt in the Blue Nile region in Sudan. A specific objective was to tentatively explore the adaptive strategy of A. senegal populations. Seventeen-week-old seedlings were planted in the field at spacing of 3 m × 3 m, giving 100 trees per plot and
replication; within a randomized complete block design with four replications. The experimental site was in the clay plain
region. Seed variables showed significant differences. Clay plain provenances showed considerable variation in seed weight
and seed number. They had the smallest seed weight but the highest seed number, while the sand (western) provenances had the
largest seed weight but lowest seed number. Seedling branch number, root length, root to shoot ratio and shoot dry weight
differed significantly among the provenances 12 weeks after germination. Clay provenances had the highest branch number and
shoot dry weight but the shortest roots and lowest root to shoot ratio. This was interpreted as showing better adaptation
to the site in these local provenances in comparison to those originating from the western sandy soil regions. High positive
correlations were observed between seedling variables, such as root nodule and branch numbers; this could be used for early
selection. The variation was greater between provenance groups than within them, suggesting that especially selection among
