Seeds ofPentaclenthra macrophylla that had been ether-extracted and cooked by autoclaving showed a low value in protein quality tests with rats even when supplemented with methionine, the only amino acid seriously deficient as judged by chemical analysis. This was so whether the beans were fresh or had been stored uncooked for several months. Further tests indicated that the poor performance was explained by the beans having a growth-depressant activity. This might be explained by the high content of caffeoylputrescine in the seeds. 相似文献

The biological activity of djulis (Chenopodium formosaneum) extracts was evaluated against mosquitoes and biting midges. Djulis extracts were relatively nontoxic to Aedes albopictus larvae. However, they showed interesting repellence against adult mosquitoes as estimated by the median effective dosages (ED50). ED50 values for djulis extracts against mosquito adults in descending order were: seed extracted with methanol (0.83 %), seed extracted with dichloromethane (0.66 %), leaf extracted with methanol (0.50 %), and leaf extracted with dichloromethane (0.40 %). Field tests also suggested that djulis methanol extracts were effective at about a 1 % level against biting midges (Forcipomyia taiwana). A total of 15 and 20 compounds accounting for 88.8 and 79.9 % in the seed and leaf extract, respectively were identified by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GC–MS). Among these, 9, 12-octadecadienoyl chloride, (Z, Z) was found in both as well as being the major constituent in the leaf extract (35.7 %). Further studies on the repellent property of the extracts against mosquitoes and biting midges are warranted. 相似文献

Tubers of 11 clones ofSolanum tuberosum subsp.andigena (andigena) and 12 cultivars ofS. tuberosum subsp.tuberosum (tuberosum) were inoculated with water suspensions (5.5 × 104 5.5 × 105, 5.5 × 106 CFU/ml) ofErwinia chrysanthemi. Tubers were inoculated immediately after harvest and after 6 and 16 wk of storage at 4 and 23°C. Tuber rot incidence in andigena and tuberosum increased as inoculum concentration increased. Based on tuber rot severity, clones of andigena were classified as resistant, intermediate, or susceptible and cultivars of tuberosum were classified as intermediate or susceptible. Rot severity increased in all tubers stored at 4°C and in tubers of tuberosum stored at 23°C; rot did not increase in tubers of andigena stored at 23°C. Electrolyte leakage (EL), total sugars (TS), reducing sugars (RS), non-reducing sugars (NRS) and dry matter (DM) were determined in non-inoculated tubers. There was a significant positive correlation between the rate of EL, concentration of RS and tuber rot in andigena and tuberosum. Tuber rot and DM were negatively correlated in tubers of andigena; but they were not correlated in tuberosum. Clones of andigena with low EL, TS, RS, and high DM were resistant to tuber rot, and the incidence of tuber rot in these clones was much less influenced by temperature and length of storage. The influence of temperature and length of storage on susceptibility toE. chrysanthemi may be explained by increased cell membrane permeability; increased leakage of accumulated sugars in potatoes stored at 4°C could favor bacterial proliferation resulting in more disease. 相似文献

Tubers of 149 clones ofSolarium tuberosum subsp.andigena (andigena) from four self-pollinated (S1) families (Jak 072, 702440, 700718 and Och 5331) obtained from true seed were rated for resistance toErwinia chrysanthemi. The clones were classified into four arbitrary categories based on disease reaction: resistant, intermediate, susceptible, and very susceptible. In family Jak 072, 23% of the clones were resistant and 61% intermediate. In family Och 5331, 22% of the clones were susceptible and 67% very susceptible; and in families 702440 and 700718, 38% and 29% of the clones were intermediate and 45% and 40% were susceptible, respectively. Tubers of 11 clones chosen to represent each one of the four categories were inoculated withE. chrysanthemi (Ech), E. carotovora subsp.carotovora (Ecc) andE. carotovora subsp.atroseptica (Eca). Clones responded similarly toEch andEca. However,Ecc induced significantly more rot thanEch orEca, presumably favored by the temperature of incubation (25°C). Clones Jak 072-17 and Jak 072-18 were resistant to the three bacterial pathogens. Above ground stems of 6 of the 11 selected clones inoculated withEch were susceptible to stem rot. OBJECTIVE: To study the effects of morphine on haemodynamic variables, blood gas values and the requirement for additional anaesthetic drugs in horses undergoing surgery. STUDY DESIGN: Prospective randomized study. METHODS: Thirty-eight client-owned horses, ASA(American Society of Anesthesiologists) category I or II, undergoing elective surgical procedures, were studied. Horses were divided between two groups, and were paired according to operation, anaesthetist, body position during surgery, mass and breed. Group M+ received morphine by intravenous (IV) injection (0.15 mg kg(-1)) before induction of anaesthesia and then by infusion (0.1 mg kg(-1) hour(-1)) throughout anaesthesia. Group M- received the same anaesthetic technique (pre-anaesthetic medication with romifidine (100 microg kg(-1)) IV; induction with ketamine (2.2 mg kg(-1)) and diazepam (50 microg kg(-1)) IV; maintenance with halothane), except that morphine was excluded. Both groups received flunixin IV (1.1 mg kg(-1)) before surgery. Both groups also received 50% nitrous oxide for the first 10 minutes of anaesthesia. During anaesthesia, end-tidal halothane was maintained at 0.9% (+/-0.1%) in both groups. Heart rate (HR) and respiratory rate (fr), systolic, mean and diastolic arterial pressures were recorded every 5 minutes. Arterial blood samples were analysed every 20 minutes. Additional anaesthetics (ketamine and midazolam) were administered whenever the horse moved. Dobutamine was infused to maintain mean arterial pressure (MAP) > 58 mm Hg, but was discontinued when MAP reached 68 mm Hg. Mechanical ventilation was imposed when PaCO(2) exceeded 9.3 kPa (70 mm Hg). RESULTS: Haemodynamic data (HR and MAP) and blood gas measurements were analysed using repeated measure analysis using a mixed covariance pattern model (SAS version 8.2). A Student's t-test was used to investigate differences between groups in the doses of additional anaesthetics required. There were no significant differences between M+ or M- groups in MAP (p = 0.65), HR (p = 0.74), PaO2 (p = 0.40) or PaCO2 (p = 0.20). Fewer horses in the M+ group received additional anaesthetics (15.8% compared to 21.1% in M- group), and the mean dose of ketamine required was higher in the M- group (mean +/- SD: M-, 0.93 +/- 0.70; M+, 0.45 +/- 0.17). These differences were not statistically significant (p = 0.28). CONCLUSIONS: Pre-anaesthetic and peri-operative morphine administration is not associated with significant haemodynamic or ventilatory changes.
