Mineral‐nutrient stress is one of the main factors limiting crop production, especially in arid lands. The mineral requirement of a crop is difficult to determine, and the interpretation of foliar chemistry composition is not easy. This study was conducted to compute the minimum yield target for fresh fruit of yellow pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) and the corresponding Compositional Nutrient Diagnosis (CND) as well as to identify significant nutrient interactions of this crop in desert calcareous soils. Preliminary CND norms were developed using a cumulative variance‐ratio function and the chi‐square distribution function. From a small database, we computed means and standard deviations of row‐centered log ratios, VX, of five nutrients (N, P, K, Ca, and Mg) and a filling value, R, which comprises all nutrients not chemically analyzed and quantified them in 54 foliar samples of the popular yellow pepper cv. ‘Santa Fé’. This cultivar is widely grown in northwest Mexico under arid conditions. These norms are associated to fresh fruit yields higher than 15.04 t ha–1. Principal‐component analyses, performed using estimated CND nutrient indexes, allowed us to identify four interactions: negative P‐Ca, P‐Mg, and N‐K, and positive Ca‐Mg. Pepper plants growing on calcareous soils tend to take up more Ca and Mg than considered as optimum in other soil conditions. 相似文献

BackgroundWe previously elucidated the protective mechanism of Korean red ginseng oil (RGO) against Brucella abortus infection, and our phytochemical analysis revealed that palmitic acid (PA) was an abundant component of RGO. Consequently, we investigated the contribution of PA against B. abortus.ObjectivesWe aimed to investigate the efficacy of PA against B. abortus infection using a murine cell line and a murine model.MethodsCell viability, bactericidal, internalization, and intracellular replication, western blot, nitric oxide (NO), and superoxide (O2-) analyses and flow cytometry were performed to determine the effects of PA on the progression of B. abortus infection in macrophages. Flow cytometry for cytokine analysis of serum samples and bacterial counts from the spleens were performed to determine the effect of PA in a mouse model.ResultsPA did not affect the growth of B. abortus. PA treatment in macrophages did not change B. abortus uptake but it did attenuate the intracellular survivability of B. abortus. Incubation of cells with PA resulted in a modest increase in sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) expression. Compared to control cells, reduced nitrite accumulation, augmented O2-, and enhanced pro-inflammatory cytokine production were observed in PA-treated B. abortus-infected cells. Mice orally treated with PA displayed a decreased serum interleukin-10 level and enhanced bacterial resistance.ConclusionsOur results suggest that PA participates in the control of B. abortus within murine macrophages, and the in vivo study results confirm its efficacy against the infection. However, further investigations are encouraged to completely characterize the mechanisms involved in the inhibition of B. abortus infection by fatty acids. 相似文献

Twenty-one apple accessions were characterised and classified taxonomically with randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD). The results were compared with morphological and isoenzymatic classifications of the same material by calculating the congruence between similarity matrices. The results confirmed the greater discrimination capacity of RAPD compared with isoenzymes, although the taxonomic clusters obtained with both types of markers were congruent. The genetic relationships calculated using RAPD and isoenzymes showed little congruence with the morphological relationships among accessions. Isoenzymatic markers are useful in germplasm banks to evaluate the diversity of newly introduced accessions. The use of RAPD markers are especially beneficial to discriminate between material that is genetically similar, to evaluate genetic variability within a collection and to choose the components of the core collection. 相似文献

Five isozyme and endosperm reserve protein systems were analysed using electrophoretic techniques in order to investigate the genetic diversity of 222 accessions of Spanish, local varieties of barley, Hordeum vulgare L., maintained at the Centro de Conservación de Recursos Fitogeneéticos of the I.N.I.A. (Alcalá de Henares, Spain). The esterase (EST) isozymes provided more information than did the other systems analysed, showing a total of 14 variable markers. The cathodic peroxidases (CPX) and acid phosphatases (ACPH) were also polymorphic. Malate dehydrogenase (MDH) and glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase (GOT) were monomorphic. The hordeins showed patterns of up to 15 bands, the majority of which were very useful in distinguishing genotypes. 17.2% of accessions showed a uniform genotype, 29.8% showed practically identical genotypes and 53% showed mixtures of different genotypes. It is noteworthy that the use of only two systems (EST and hordeins) and the analysis of only six loci (Est-1, Est-2, Est-4, Hor-1, Hor-2 and Hor-3) is sufficient to reveal the genetic diversity of the collection. 相似文献

Polymorphic Y chromosomes harbor cryptic variation with manifold functional consequences 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The paucity of polymorphisms in single-copy genes on the Y chromosome of Drosophila contrasts with data indicating that this chromosome has polymorphic phenotypic effects on sex ratio, temperature sensitivity, behavior, and fitness. We show that the Y chromosome of D. melanogaster harbors substantial genetic diversity in the form of polymorphisms for genetic elements that differentially affect the expression of hundreds of X-linked and autosomal genes. The affected genes are more highly expressed in males, more meagerly expressed in females, and more highly divergent between species. Functionally, they affect microtubule stability, lipid and mitochondrial metabolism, and the thermal sensitivity of spermatogenesis. Our findings provide a mechanism for adaptive phenotypic variation associated with the Y chromosome. 相似文献

The effects of diet supplemented with Myrcia sylvatica essential oil (EOMS) on growth and stress tolerance to different stocking densities were assessed in Sparus aurata. Initially, three experimental groups were established: (i) control, (ii) 1.0 and (iii) 2.0 ml EOMS/kg dry feed. After 90 days, nine fish per group were anaesthetized, weighed and sampled for metabolic analysis. The remaining fish were divided into two different conditions: low (LD—5 kg/m3) and high (HD—40 kg/m3) stocking densities, constituting a final experimental setup with six treatments. After 22 days, 10 individuals per treatment were anaesthetized and sampled for biochemical analysis. EOMS feeding for 90 days did not interfere with growth, although it was effective in reducing cortisol levels and the activation of lipid and carbohydrate metabolism. The HD interfered in growth performance, increased the lactate levels in the control group, reducing also hepatic glycogen levels without dependence on diet supplementation. The 2.0 ml EOMS + LD group increased the growth parameters and decreased the cortisol and triglycerides levels. Additionally, metabolism adjustment was observed to provide energy during LD and HD conditions, indicating that diets supplemented with EOMS produce metabolic reorganization to maintain body homeostasis, suggesting its use as a beneficial supplement in fish. 相似文献

The phosphotransfer network system, through the enzymes creatine kinase (CK), adenylate kinase (AK), and pyruvate kinase (PK), contributes to efficient intracellular energetic communication between cellular adenosine triphosphate (ATP) consumption and production in tissues with high energetic demand, such as cerebral tissue. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate whether aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) intoxication in diet negatively affects the cerebral phosphotransfer network related to impairment of cerebral ATP levels in silver catfish (Rhamdia quelen). Brain cytosolic CK activity decreased in animals fed with a diet contaminated with AFB1 on days 14 and 21 post-feeding, while mitochondrial CK activity increased, when compared to the control group (basal diet). Also, cerebral AK and PK activity decreased in animals fed with a diet contaminated with AFB1 on days 14 and 21 post-feeding, similarly to the results observed for cerebral ATP levels. Based on this evidence, inhibition of cerebral cytosolic CK activity is compensated by stimulation of mitochondrial CK activity in an attempt to prevent impairment of communication between sites of ATP generation and ATP utilization. The inhibition of cerebral AK and PK activity leads to impairment of cerebral energy homeostasis, decreasing the brain’s ATP availability. Moreover, the absence of a reciprocal compensatory mechanism between these enzymes contributes to cerebral energetic imbalance, which may contribute to disease pathophysiology. 相似文献
