Phosphites and chitosan were evaluated in target spot control, nutrition and gas exchange in cucumbers. Three weekly sprayings of commercial products were conducted, and Corynespora cassiicola (causal agent of target spot) was inoculated in the second and third true leaves four days after the last spraying. Zn, Mn, K and Cu phosphites reduced the disease severity, but the treatments had no effect on the development of the plants and the accumulation of macronutrients in the above ground part, with the exception of sulfur. The accumulation of Cu, Mn and Zn micronutrients were higher in plants treated with Cu, Mn and Zn phosphites, respectively. The green color index was influenced by the treatments after pathogen inoculation, with the highest values for Zn and Cu phosphites. Before inoculation, the products influenced net CO2 assimilation rate (A), stomatal conductance (gs) and internal CO2 concentration (Ci). The parameters gs and Ci increased, which indicates that the treatments can physiologically benefit the plants in the absence of a stress condition. After fungal inoculation, the Cu, Mn and Zn phosphites caused positive physiological effects, leading to the highest A values and adequate carboxylation efficiency (CE), which increases the capacity of plants to assimilate CO2. These phosphites also maintained adequate water use efficiency and gs and Ci values. Such indexes corresponded to lower disease severity, indicating that Mn, Zn and Cu phosphites reduced the stress caused by the disease, preserving the functionality of the photosynthetic apparatus.

Apple blotch (Marssonina coronaria) is a foliar disease of increasing importance globally. Methods to quantify the disease and knowledge about epidemiology are required for new studies on the disease. The objectives of this study were to develop a standard area diagram set (SADs) to assess apple blotch severity and to describe the temporal progress of the disease under field conditions on older and younger leaves of two apple cultivars. For the development of SADs, symptomatic leaves were collected and scanned to obtain the actual severity. Based on the pattern of the disease, a SADs was elaborated and validated. Leaf severities were estimated without and with SADs by 12 raters to validate the tool. After validation, the SADs was used to assess apple blotch in older and younger leaves of selected shoots during the vegetative cycle of cvs. Eva and Gala. SADs severities ranged from 0.2 to 96%. Accuracy, precision, and reliability of the estimates were significantly improved when the SADs was used. In the field, the onset of apple blotch was in late spring and greater increases in severity occurred during summer. Rates of disease progress ranged from 0.09 to 0.13. Epidemics were different in older and younger leaves at the end of the apple vegetative cycle for both cultivars tested. Our work provided a tool for apple blotch quantification and described the disease progress curve under subtropical conditions, which can contribute as basis for future studies.

The concentrations of 14 mineral elements (Na, K, Ca, P, Mg, Fe, Zn, Cu, Mn, Co, Cr, Ni, Cd and Pb), together with pH, moisture, ash and NaCl content, were determined in 38 feeds commonly available in Europe for trout (starter, fingerling, grower, brood), salmon (starter, fingerling, grower), eel (grower), and larval fishes.Large differences in the mineral composition, particularly the trace elements Fe, Zn, Cu, Mn, Co and Pb, exist within and between the different feed categories tested. The results obtained are discussed in the context of available information on the dietary mineral requirements of these fish species. 相似文献
It is difficult to use tissue culture assays to investigate adherence and other properties of Edwardsiella tarda because the organism is invasive and produces a potent hemolysin. We therefore relied on polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to determine the occurrence of genes for enterotoxins (LT-I, EAST-1), Shiga toxin (Stx-1, Stx-2), cytotoxic necrotizing factors (CNF-1, CNF-2), aerobactin, invasion plasmid of enteroinvasive Escherichia coli, EPEC adherence factor (EAF), intimin (Eae), enterohemolysin (EntHly) and hemolysin (Hly) in 53 isolates of E. tarda from humans and fish from several countries. All isolates were negative for all genes investigated by PCR. Adhesion to and invasion of HeLa cells were determined by using the unusually short incubation time of 1h or 30 min. All isolates adhered and invaded in these tests. Finally, a random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) test distinguished, with a few exceptions, isolates of human and fish origin. 相似文献
The conflict resulting from the expansion of human activities into natural habitats affects the structure and functioning of ecosystems. Similarly, the anthropogenic redistribution of many species all over the world affects the composition of biological communities, possibly altering their capacity to sustain key ecological functions, such as seed dispersal. Urban parks are extreme examples of such novel ecosystems resulting from the anthropogenic redistribution of species in a new ecological framework. Here, we describe the avian seed dispersal network in an urban recreational woodland in central Portugal (c.79 ha). Four quantitative seed dispersal networks were assembled by identifying intact seeds in the droppings of mist-netted birds throughout the year. Overall, 1,244 seeds were identified, representing 33 links between 15 plant species and 11 bird species. Most birds dispersed alien seeds, but these represented a small proportion of the overall network (20 % of the seeds and 13 % of the droppings). Blackcap (Sylvia atricapilla) was the main disperser of native and alien seeds in all seasons, particularly those of the invasive Phytolacca americana. Fleshy fruits were more abundant in summer, but were more consumed in winter, presumably when other foods were difficult to find. Our study suggests that even in a highly managed urban park, seed dispersal networks can be temporally complex and variable and that a network approach can be an important monitoring tool to detect the status of crucial ecosystem functions in rapidly changing habitats such as urban parks. 相似文献
The high cost of insecticides, the emergence of insecticide resistance in populations of a number of insect species and other problems arising from their continuous use, such as biological imbalance, cotton fiber waste, and environmental pollution, have prompted the development of new technologies aiming the control of Anthonomus grandis Boheman in cotton crops. This study evaluated the level of protection conferred by kaolin clay foliar spraying to cotton plants against boll weevil damage. Treatment-tested spraying kaolin or endosulfan on cotton plants. The highest percentage of oviposition-punctured squares were observed in the control, and the lowest percentages in the treatments sprayed with endosulfan and kaolin in a systematic manner and where the boll weevil reached the economic threshold at all assessments. The greatest numbers of non-attacked bolls by weevils and cotton-seed yield were observed under the endosulfan treatments, followed by the treatments of kaolin spraying. The smallest number of bolls and lowest cotton-seed yield were observed for the control plots. These finding are of practical significance because they may reduce the cotton production cost and environmental impacts of chemical pesticides and make possible the production of organic cotton with the presence of boll weevils. 相似文献
In order to ensure the sustainability of agroecosystems, biodiversity must be a priority. Agroforestry, which includes trees, is an example of such diverse systems. We evaluated plant diversity and aboveground biomass production to assess whether areas under fallow following traditional cultivation return to their initial condition. Also, plant diversity and aboveground biomass production were assessed in agroforestry systems (AFS) to determine if these were similar to unmanaged ecosystems. Another objective of the study was to observe the influence of plant diversity on aboveground biomass production in plant communities and also in the population of the dominant species, Cordia oncocalyx. Plant diversity was evaluated by assessing species richness, as well as using Shannon’s (H′) and Pielou’s (J′) indices. Aboveground plant biomass was evaluated in two AFS: agrosilvopastoral (ASP) and silvopastoral (SP), and also in a traditionally managed agricultural system (AG), areas that had been under fallow for six years (F6) and nine years (F9) and an area of unmanaged caatinga (CAT) vegetation. We observed that the ASP system had a lower diversity and number of species, especially tree species. However, it sustained the same total biomass production as CAT and fallow areas. The SP system, despite having lower H′ and J′ indices as well as lower total biomass production, had a similar number of species to CAT and cropped and fallow systems AG, F6 and F9. Plant biomass in F6 and F9 had recovered to productivity levels of unmanaged CAT vegetation; however the diversity indices were not restored to the same level. Plant diversity did not have an effect on the productivity of the agroecosystems. Likewise, annual biomass production by C. oncocalyx is not dependent upon diversity, but it is influenced by the growth stage of individuals. 相似文献
