A retrospective study on pig lung tissues from 60 cases of proliferative and necrotizing pneumonia (PNP) was performed to determine the presence of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV), swine influenza virus (SIV), and porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) in these lesions. Cases selected included 30 cases diagnosed between 1988 and 1992 and 30 cases diagnosed between 1997 and 2001. In each group of 30 cases, 10 were from suckling piglets, whereas the other 20 were from postweaned animals representing either nursery or grower-finisher pigs. Immunohistochemistry using a monoclonal antibody to influenza virus type A was used to determine the presence of SIV, and in situ hybridization was used for the detection of PRRSV and PCV2 nucleic acids. PRRSV was detected in 55 of the 60 cases examined (92%), PCV2 in 25 cases (42%), and SIV in only 1 case (2%). In 30 cases (50%), PRRSV was the only virus detected, whereas in 25 other cases (42%), a combination of PRRSV and PCV2 could be detected in the lungs with PNP lesions. PCV2 could not be detected in the lungs of suckling pigs with PNP. All PCV2-positive cases were found in postweaned pigs and were always in combination with PRRSV. In this latter age group, PCV2 was detected in 63% of the cases (25/40). Data from our study indicate that SIV is rarely identified in PNP and that PCV2 infection is not essential for the development of PNP lesions. The results of the present study demonstrate that PRRSV is consistently and predominantly associated with PNP and should be considered the key etiologic agent for the condition.  相似文献

Fenhexamid, a recently developed botryticide, is shown here to inhibit sterol biosynthesis. When the fungus Botryotinia fuckeliana was grown in the presence of fenhexamid, the ergosterol content was reduced, and three 3‐keto compounds, 4α‐methylfecosterone, fecosterone and episterone, accumulated, suggesting an inhibition of the 3‐keto reductase involved in C‐4 demethylation. Thus, fenhexamid belongs to a new, promising class of sterol biosynthesis inhibitors not previously used in agriculture or in medicine. © 2001 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

We modeled tree responses to pruning on the basis of growth rules established on unpruned trees and a simple principle governing root-shoot interactions. The model, which integrates architectural and ecophysiological approaches, distinguishes four types of anatomical organs in a tree: rootstock, main axis, secondary axes and new roots. Tree structure is described by the position of secondary axes on the main axis. The main processes considered are plastochronal activity, branching, assimilate production, respiration and assimilate partitioning. Growth and development rules were based on measurements of two unpruned trees. The model was used to simulate growth of peach trees (Prunus persica (L.) Batsch) in their first growing season. Assuming that the equilibrium between roots and shoots tends to be restored after pruning, the response to removal of the main axis above the twentieth internode in mid-July was simulated and compared to the response measured in three pruned trees. The model fit the unpruned tree data reasonably well and predicted the main traits of tree behavior after pruning. Dry matter growth of the secondary axes of pruned trees was increased so that shoot seasonal carbon balance was hardly modified by pruning. Rhythmicity of growth was enhanced by pruning, and might result from variations induced in the root:shoot ratio. Variation in pruning severity had greater effects than variation in pruning date. A sensitivity analysis indicated that: (1) root-shoot partitioning was a critical process of the model; (2) tree growth was mainly dependent on assimilate availability; and (3) tree shape was highly dependent on the branching process.  相似文献

Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) virus was first detected in Cameroon in February 2006. Analysis of NA sequences of the virus demonstrated that it is closely related to the H5N1 isolates from Northern Nigeria, Sudan and Ivory Coast, suggesting a common virus ancestor.  相似文献

The relative importance of the depletion of ergosterol versus the accumulation of precursor or abnormal sterols in the mechanism of fungal growth inhibition by sterol biosynthesis inhibitor fungicides is incompletely understood. In order to investigate this problem further, the degree of inhibition of the growth of Nectria haematococca by fungicides with different enzymatic targets in the sterol biosynthetic pathway was determined and compared with their effects on the sterol profile. The sensitivity of N. haematococca was highest towards fenpropimorph, followed by tebuconazole, terbinafine, fenpropidin and tridemorph. Terbinafine, a squalene epoxidase inhibitor, induced a very large accumulation of squalene without very significant inhibition of ergosterol biosynthesis and growth. The fungus appeared able to tolerate large amounts of squalene. In the case of tebuconazole, a sterol 14α-demethylase inhibitor, it seemed that the accumulation of C4 mono- and dimethyl sterols was responsible for fungitoxicity. Fenpropimorph and fenpropidin seemed to be good inhibitors of both sterol Δ14-reductase and Δ8→Δ7-isomerase, whereas tridemorph was a better inhibitor of Δ8→Δ7-isomerase than of the Δ14-reductase. Large accumulations of Δ8,14- or Δ8-sterols and correspondingly large decreases in the ergosterol content are both implicated in the fungitoxicity of these compounds in N. haematococca. © 1998 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Fruit sugar and acid content were determined in a group of hybrids from one family,including 22 peach and 85 nectarine genotypes, or 75 white-fleshed and 32 yellow-fleshed genotypes. Sucrose accounted for about 65% of the total sugar, and malate for about 50%of the total acid. Mean sucrose, fructose, sorbitol, total sugar, soluble solid and quinate content were significantly higher in nectarines than in peaches, while no significant difference was found in mean malate, citrate and total acid content between nectarines and peaches. Shikimate content was very low and ranged from 0.011-0.046 meq 100 g-1 FW in all genotypes studied. Flesh color did not affect sugar and acid content.Glucose and fructose had a close positive correlation (r=0.63***). Malate had positive correlations with sucrose, sorbitol, total sugar and soluble solid content. The correlation between citrate and sugars were not significant. Glucose, fructose, sorbitol and malate content seemed to be higher in late-maturing genotypes. Sucrose, total sugar and total acid content had a parabolic relationship with developmental period (from full blooming date to maturity date).  相似文献

Spinal epidural empyema (SEE) represents a severe pyogenic infection of the epidural space. Clinical signs of the disease are non-specific--increased body temperature, intense neck pain, neurological signs of a transverse myelopathy--and can lead to severe and permanent neurological deficits. This report describes the diagnosis and successful surgical treatment of cervical SEE secondary to grass awn migration in a cat. Although it is uncommon, this disease should be suspected in cats with progressive myelopathy. Early diagnosis and emergency surgery combined with antibiotic therapy are required to allow a complete recovery.  相似文献

Sulphur emissions from the Sudbury, Ontario, metal smelting industry have affected thousands of lakes in Ontario, Canada. Reductions in these emissions during the 1970's resulted in reduced lakewater SO4 concentrations and other water quality changes in the 1970's and 1980's. Further declines in lakewater SO4 concentrations have accompanied additional recent S emission reductions achieved by 1994. Recent (1997) SO4 concentrations are still related to distance from the Sudbury smelters. A strong inverse relationship with distance is evident to about 45 km, and is most pronounced in lakes within about 20 km. In lakes beyond 45 km, dissolved organic carbon (DOC), which was correlated with hydrological response time and total phosphorus concentrations, was the best correlate with recent SO4 concentrations, indicating that some slowly-flushing, oligotrophic lakes still exhibit a "Sudbury" effect. Most lakes beyond 45 km, however, showed SO4 declines and recent SO4 concentrations comparable to lakes around Dorset, ~200 km from Sudbury, suggesting that these lakes are now most affected by the long-range atmospheric transport of S.  相似文献
