USE OF EDTA BLOOD SAMPLES FOR MANNOSIDOSIS TESTING   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Preincubation of EDTA plasma with 4mM ZnCl2 restores acidic alpha mannosidase activity, previously inhibited as a result of chelation of Zn++ by EDTA. This allows estimation of acidic alpha mannosidase activity in EDTA plasma samples, followed by granulocyte tests on those samples with low activities.  相似文献

In the serum of lambs at birth most of the circulating alkaline phosphatase, identified by electrophoretic analysis, was of skeletal origin. Suckling was associated with a rapid increase in activity of intestinal alkaline phosphatase isoenzymes in serum. There was a coincidental increase in level of circulating gamma globulin. Activity of the intestinal isoenzymes in serum began to fall between 15 and 21 h after birth and this fall preceded a fall in serum gamma globulin concentration. The electrophoretic characteristics of the intestinal isoenzymes in serum changed as activity of these isoenzymes increased and then decreased.  相似文献

: Milk samples from 285 cows in 15 dairy herds were collected for bacteriological analysis. Cows were selected on the basis of a somatic cell count (SCC) exceeding 200,000 cells per ml at the three most recent milk recordings prior to sampling. Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus uberis were the predominant isolates accounting for 21% (n = 61) and 19% (n = 53) of isolates, respectively. Streptococcus uberis was more frequently isolated from split-calving herds than from spring-calving herds and this difference was statistically significant (P < 0.005). Herds with suboptimal housing had a significantly greater prevalence of S. uberis than did herds where housing was adequate (P < 0.005). The isolation rates for S. aureus was significantly greater in herds where parlour hygiene was suboptimal (P < 0.05).  相似文献

This study compared concentrations of amyloid A in bovine milk with the cell-based indicators of intramammary inflammation, somatic cell count and California Mastitis Test. Mammary quarter data pertaining to 180 cows were categorised according to concentrations of serum amyloid A in the cow of origin. Ranked correlation, ranked regression and receiver operator characteristics all demonstrated acceptable agreement between milk amyloid A concentrations and cell-based indices. There were some indications of reduction in this agreement, in cows with raised concentrations of serum amyloid A. However, there were also indications that serum amyloid A did not significantly influence milk amyloid A. The results of the current study indicate that milk amyloid A exhibits good correlation with established cell-based indicators of intramammary inflammation.  相似文献

AIM: To identify fungi isolated from infections of the bovine mammary gland, and establish their possible sources.

METHODS: From a herd of 420 cows, milk samples were collected from all quarters at calving and cultured to detect causative organisms. Quarters identified as infected with fungi were further sampled during early lactation. Samples from feedstuffs, the feed pad and ends of teats were also collected and analysed for the presence of fungi.

RESULTS: Eleven of 420 cows were diagnosed with intramammary infections (IMI) caused by yeasts (nine cows, 10 quarters) and moulds (two cows, three quarters). Six of the yeast species had previously been reported as being responsible for mastitis. Elevated somatic cell counts (SCC) were observed in many quarters, but most infections were eliminated spontaneously. Two of the fungi isolated from milk samples were also isolated from feedstuffs and teat swabs, and seven other fungi isolated from milk samples were not isolated from feed, the feed pad or cows' teats.

CONCLUSIONS: Isolation of fungi from the udder is rarely reported in dairy cows in New Zealand. In this herd, contamination of the end of the teat originating from feedstuffs and possibly exacerbated by the use of a feed pad may have led to the establishment of IMI caused by fungi.

CLINICAL RELEVENCE: Fungi are infrequently if ever reported in mastitis trial data or surveys in New Zealand and are probably of little clinical significance.  相似文献

Free-standing aligned carbon nanotubes have previously been grown above 700 degreesC on mesoporous silica embedded with iron nanoparticles. Here, carbon nanotubes aligned over areas up to several square centimeters were grown on nickel-coated glass below 666 degreesC by plasma-enhanced hot filament chemical vapor deposition. Acetylene gas was used as the carbon source and ammonia gas was used as a catalyst and dilution gas. Nanotubes with controllable diameters from 20 to 400 nanometers and lengths from 0. 1 to 50 micrometers were obtained. Using this method, large panels of aligned carbon nanotubes can be made under conditions that are suitable for device fabrication.  相似文献
