Almost 50% of the variation in leaf wetness duration can be explained by maximum and minimum temperatures, rainfall and hours with relative humidity above 90% on a daily basis. All of these parameters can be estimated from a standard weather station. If variables related to wind are added the level of explanation increases to 69–76%. Leaf wetness duration explained up to 42% of the rate of disease increase (RDI) forS. nodorum. Leaf wetness duration was accumulated over a 5-day window period and correlated with rate of disease increase after a 7-day lag period. Standard weather variables could explain 20–34% of the disease increase. The relevance of these statistical models to disease prediction is discussed.  相似文献

We describe three zoonotic streptococcal soft tissue infections resulting from fresh seafood contact. One was a localized thumb infection with Streptococcus iniae in an immunocompetent healthy young male resulting from a puncture wound from a crab pincer. The other two were cases of ascending upper limb cellulitis associated with bacteraemia in mastectomy patients. One of these infections was caused by S. iniae while the other was caused by Streptococcus dysgalactiae subsp. dysgalactiae, a species that has not been previously described as a cause of zoonotic infection. Hence when cleaning raw seafood, protective equipment should be used to minimize the risk of percutaneous injuries.  相似文献

The disease development and population structure of Puccinia graminis f. sp. avenae, which causes stem rust on oats, were studied to investigate if sexual reproduction plays an important role in the epidemiology of the disease. The genetic population structure of P. graminis f. sp. avenae in Sweden was investigated by sampling 10 oat fields in July and August 2008 and seven fields during the same period in 2009. Nine single‐pustule isolates were first used to test simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers developed for P. graminis f. sp. tritici. Eleven of the 68 tested SSR markers were useful for genotyping P. graminis f. sp. avenae. For the main study, DNA from single uredinia was extracted and the SSR markers were used to genotype 472 samples. Both allelic and genotypic diversity were high in all fields, indicating that P. graminis f. sp. avenae undergoes regular sexual reproduction in Sweden. No significant relationship between genetic and geographic distances was found. Disease development was studied on two farms during 2008 and 2009. The apparent infection rates ranged between 0·17 and 0·55, indicating the potential for rapid disease development within fields. The incidence of oat stem rust has increased recently in Sweden. One possible explanation is a resurgence of its alternate host, barberry (Berberis spp.), after the repeal of the barberry eradication law in 1994. Barberry is present in several grain‐producing areas in Sweden, which supports the conclusion that P. graminis f. sp. avenae undergoes regular sexual reproduction there.  相似文献

In this study, artificial neural network (ANN) and linear regression (LR) approaches are proposed for predicting colour properties of laser-treated denim fabrics. Denim fabrics were treated under different combinations of laser processing parameters, including pixel time (μs), resolution (dot per inch) and grayscale (lightness percentage) as inputs. Colour properties, including colour yield (K/S sum value), CIE L*, a* and b* values and yellowness index were predicted as outputs in these approaches. Later, the prediction performances of two approaches were compared and the statistical findings revealed that ANN approach was able to provide more accurate prediction than LR approach, especially for L value. Moreover, among the three input variables, grayscale (lightness percentage) was found to be the most important factor affecting colour properties of laser-treated denim fabrics.  相似文献

In the present paper, flame resistance property is imparted to cotton fabrics by N-methylol dimethylphos-phonopropionamide (Pyrovatex CP New, FR), melamine resin (Knittex CHN, CL), phosphoric acid catalyst (PA), and ZnO/nano-ZnO co-catalyst. The study shows that effectiveness of the FR-CL-PA reaction to form a crosslinked structure is enhanced by the co-catalytic reaction, resulting in enhancement of fabric’s compressional recovering ability. However, the low pH reaction weakened the fabrics, resulting in poor tensile strength and toughness, stiffer hand feel, brittle and tendered polymer layers, a less spongy fabric structure, and a roughened fabric surface with fuzzy fibrils. In addition, atmospheric pressure plasma jet (APPJ) was used to enhance materials properties by sputtering or etching effect. The roughening effect of plasma treatment enhances tensile properties of treated specimens. Nevertheless, the positive effect is negligible after post-treatment with flame-retardant agents. Moreover, the increased inter-yarn friction enhances the subjective stiffness of fabric and the rigid effect is even worse for plasma pre-treated cotton specimens subjected to flame-retardant treatment. However, plasma pre-treated specimens have a compressible structure after post-treatment with flame-retardant agents. Moreover, neutralization of flame-retardant-treated specimens helps minimize side effects of acidic finishing, irrespective of tensile and compression properties. The process also minimizes shear and bending rigid effect by removing unattached metal oxides from the fabrics.  相似文献

In our previous research, the possibility of using chitosan in preparing the pretreatment print paste for digital ink-jet printing for cotton fabric was investigated but the final color was not good as expected. In this paper, we modified our previous work by applying the chitsoan separately on the cotton fabric for digital ink-jet printing. A two-bath method was thus proposed and it was confirmed that a better color yield was achieved with this method. However, the use of chitosan reduced the tensile strength of the digital ink-jet printed fabric slightly.  相似文献

Ralstonia solanacearum causes bacterial wilt on a wide range of plant hosts. Most strains of R. solanacearum are nonpathogenic below 20°C; however, Race 3 Biovar 2 (R3B2) strains are classified as quarantine pathogens because of their ability to infect crops, cause disease, and survive in temperate climates. We have identified race 1 biovar 1 Phylotype IIB Sequevar 4 strains present in Florida which were able to infect and produce wilt symptoms on potato and tomato at 18°C. Moreover they infected tomato plants at rates similar to strains belonging to R3B2. We determined that strains naturally nonpathogenic at 18°C were able to multiply, move in planta, and cause partial wilt when inoculated directly into the stem, suggesting that low temperature affects virulence of strains differently at early stages of infection. Bacterial growth in vitro was delayed at low temperatures, however it was not attenuated. Twitching motility observed on growing colonies was attenuated in nonpathogenic strains at 18°C, while not affected in the cool virulent ones. Using pilQ as a marker to evaluate the relative expression of the twitching activity of R. solanacearum strains, we confirmed that cool virulent strains maintained a similar level of pilQ expression at both temperatures, while in nonpathogenic strains pilQ was downregulated at 18°C.  相似文献

Prudent use of antimicrobials is paramount to slow the development of resistance and for successful treatment. The use of cumulative antibiograms will allow evidence-based antimicrobial selection with consideration of local resistance patterns. We generated a “first-isolate-per-patient” cumulative antibiogram for a regional equine referral hospital. Bacterial organisms cultured from horses between 2011 and 2018, sample origin, antimicrobial susceptibilities, and multidrug-resistant (MDR) status were tabulated. Of 1,176 samples, 50% were culture positive. Overall, 93 of 374 (25%) were MDR. Of the MDR isolates, 11 (12%) were susceptible to high-importance antimicrobials only (as defined by the Australian Strategic and Technical Advisory Group on antimicrobial resistance). β-hemolytic streptococci were uniformly susceptible to penicillin (76 of 76); 17 of 20 (85%) non–β-hemolytic Streptococcus spp. were susceptible to penicillin. Despite veterinary-specific challenges in constructing an antibiogram, our study provides an exemplar of the clinical utility of regional-, farm-, or hospital-specific cumulative antibiograms for evidence-based empirical antimicrobial selection by veterinarians prior to susceptibility result availability.  相似文献

Solid-state phase transitions in time-dependent mantle convection can induce diapiric flows in the upper mantle. When a deep mantle plume rises toward phase boundaries in the upper mantle, the changes in the local thermal buoyancy, local heat capacity, and latent heat associated with the phase change at a depth of 670 kilometers tend to pinch off the plume head from the feeding stem and form a diapir. This mechanism may explain episodic hot spot volcanism. The nature of the multiple phase boundaries at the boundary between the upper and lower mantle may control the fate of deep mantle plumes, allowing hot plumes to go through and retarding the tepid ones.  相似文献

A novel coronavirus (SCoV) is the etiological agent of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). SCoV-like viruses were isolated from Himalayan palm civets found in a live-animal market in Guangdong, China. Evidence of virus infection was also detected in other animals (including a raccoon dog, Nyctereutes procyonoides) and in humans working at the same market. All the animal isolates retain a 29-nucleotide sequence that is not found in most human isolates. The detection of SCoV-like viruses in small, live wild mammals in a retail market indicates a route of interspecies transmission, although the natural reservoir is not known.  相似文献
