Short‐rotation forestry (SRF) on arable soils has high potentials for biomass production and leads to long‐term no‐tillage management. In the present study, the vertical distributions of soil chemical and microbial properties after 15 y of SRF with willows and poplar (Salix and Populus spp.) in 3‐ and 6‐year rotations on an arable soil were measured and compared to a pertinent tilled arable site. Two transects at different positions in the relief (upper and lower slope; transect 1 and 2) were investigated. Short‐rotation forestry caused significant changes in the vertical distribution of all investigated soil properties (organic and microbial C, total and microbial N, soil enzyme activities), however, the dimension and location (horizons) of significant effects varied. The rotation periods affected the vertical distribution of the soil properties within the SRF significantly. In transect 1, SRF had higher organic‐C concentrations in the subsoil (Bv horizon), whereas in transect 2, the organic‐C concentrations were increased predominantly in the topsoil (Ah horizon). Sufficient plant supply of P and K in combination with decreased concentrations of these elements in the subsoil under SRF pointed to an effective nutrient mobilization and transfer from the deeper soil horizons even in the long term. In transect 1, the microbial‐C concentrations were higher in the B and C horizons and in transect 2 in the A horizons under SRF than under arable use. The activities of β‐glucosidases and acid phosphatases in the soil were predominantly lower under SRF than under arable use in the topsoil and subsoil. We conclude, that long‐term SRF on arable sites can contribute to increased C sequestration and changes in the vertical distribution of soil microbial biomass and soil enzyme activities in the topsoil and also in the subsoil.  相似文献

Wild type (WT) field isolates of Bremia lactucae failed to germinate in vitro or infect lettuce leaves in the presence of CAA (carboxylic acid amide) fungicides. Minimal inhibitory concentrations (MIC) for mandipropamid, dimethomorph, benthiavalicarb and iprovalicarb were 0.005, 0.5, 0.5 and 5 μg ml−1, respectively. Mutagenesis experiments showed that spores exposed to EMS (ethyl methane sulphonate) or UV irradiation (254 nm) could infect lettuce leaves in the presence of up to 100 μg ml−1 CAA. The proportion of infected leaves relative to the number of spores inoculated (infection frequency) was inversely related to the concentration of CAA used, ranging between 0 and 160 per 1 × 106 spores. Resistant mutants (RM) lost their resistance within 1–14 reproduction cycles on CAA-treated plants. Crosses were made between RMxWT isolates and RMxRM isolates with an attempt to obtain stable homozygous resistant off-springs. Such crosses yielded few resistant but unstable progeny isolates. Mutagenic treatments given to hybrid isolates also failed to produce stable resistance. Previous gene sequencing data showed that stable resistance to CAAs is based on a single SNP in the cellulose synthase 3 (CesA3) gene of Plasmopara viticola. Therefore, we sequenced a 582 bp DNA fragment of Ces3A of WT, RM and hybrid isolates of B.lactucae. No mutation in this gene fragment was found. We conclude that mutagenic agents like EMS or UV may induce resistance to CAA in Bremia lactucae but this resistance is not stable and not linked to mutations in CesA3 gene.  相似文献

A large electric field at the surface of a ferromagnetic metal is expected to appreciably change its electron density. In particular, the metal's intrinsic magnetic properties, which are commonly regarded as fixed material constants, will be affected. This requires, however, that the surface has a strong influence on the material's properties, as is the case with ultrathin films. We demonstrated that the magnetocrystalline anisotropy of ordered iron-platinum (FePt) and iron-palladium (FePd) intermetallic compounds can be reversibly modified by an applied electric field when immersed in an electrolyte. A voltage change of -0.6 volts on 2-nanometer-thick films altered the coercivity by -4.5 and +1% in FePt and FePd, respectively. The modification of the magnetic parameters was attributed to a change in the number of unpaired d electrons in response to the applied electric field. Our device structure is general and should be applicable for characterization of other thin-film magnetic systems.  相似文献

We developed high-density microfluidic chips that contain plumbing networks with thousands of micromechanical valves and hundreds of individually addressable chambers. These fluidic devices are analogous to electronic integrated circuits fabricated using large-scale integration. A key component of these networks is the fluidic multiplexor, which is a combinatorial array of binary valve patterns that exponentially increases the processing power of a network by allowing complex fluid manipulations with a minimal number of inputs. We used these integrated microfluidic networks to construct the microfluidic analog of a comparator array and a microfluidic memory storage device whose behavior resembles random-access memory.  相似文献

 Processes that govern the soil nitrogen (N) supply in irrigated lowland rice systems are poorly understood. The objectives of this paper were to investigate the effects of crop rotation and management on soil N dynamics, microbial biomass C (CBIO) and microbial biomass N (NBIO) in relation to rice N uptake and yield. A maize-rice (M-R) rotation was compared with a rice-rice (R-R) double-cropping system over a 2-year period with four cropping seasons. In the M-R system, maize (Zea mays L.) was grown in aerated soil during the dry season (DS) followed by rice (Oryza sativa L.) grown in flooded soil during the wet season (WS). In the R-R system, rice was grown in flooded soil in both the DS and WS. Three fertilizer N rates (0, 50 or 100 kg urea-N ha–1 in WS) were assigned to subplots within the cropping system main plots. Early versus late crop residue incorporation following DS maize or rice were established as additional treatments in sub-subplots in the second year. In the R-R system, the time of residue incorporation had a large effect on NO3 -N accumulation during the fallow period and also on extractable NH4 +-N, rice N uptake and yield in the subsequent cropping period. In contrast, time of residue incorporation had little influence on extractable N in both the fallow and rice-cropping periods of the M-R system, and no detectable effects on rice N uptake or yield. In both cropping systems, CBIO and NBIO were not sensitive to residue incorporation despite differences of 2- to 3-fold increase in the amount of incorporated residue C and N, and were relatively insensitive to N fertilizer application. Extractable organic N was consistently greater after mid-tillering in M-R compared to the R-R system across N rate and residue incorporation treatments, and much of this organic N was α-amino N. We conclude that N mineralization-immobilization dynamics in lowland rice systems are sensitive to soil aeration as influenced by residue management in the fallow period and crop rotation, and that these factors have agronomically significant effects on rice N uptake and yield. A fully computer-controlled apparatus was designed. It combines a glass reactor with a temperature-controlled hood, in which headspace volatiles are captured. Flavored liquids can be introduced into the reactor and exposed to conditions of temperature, air flow, shear rate, and saliva flow as they occur in the mouth. As the reactor is completely filled before measurements are started, creation of headspace just before sampling start prevents untimely flavor release resulting in real time data. In the first 30 s of flavor release the concentrations of the volatiles can be measured up to four times by on-line sampling of the dynamic headspace, followed by off-line trapping of the samples on corresponding Tenax traps and analysis using GC-TDS-FID. Flavor compounds from different chemical classes were dissolved in water to achieve concentrations typically present in food (micrograms to milligrams per liter). Most of the compounds showed constant release rates, and the summed quantities of each volatile of three 10 s time intervals correlated linearly with time. The entire method of measurement including sample preparation, release, sampling, trapping, thermodesorption, and GC analysis showed good sensitivity [nanograms (10 s)(-1)] and reproducibility (mean coefficient of variation = 7.2%).  相似文献
