Fruits of the Olea europaea Arbequina variety showed a carotenogenic stage overlapping the biosynthesis of anthocyanins. At the start of ripening, the carotenoid concentration increases (20%) or is maintained (besides the esterification of xanthophylls found in this variety), compared with a decrease (30%) found in the same period in the Picual variety (used as a control that was representative of the rest of the varieties). Both the beta,beta and beta,epsilon carotenoid series were found to be implicated in this carotenogenic process. Differences in both varieties for the chlorophyll a/b ratio, chlorophylls/carotenoids ratio, and relative carotenoid composition may indicate the existence of a different metabolism of chloroplast pigments, but also indicates a different structure and function of the photosynthetic apparatus. This fact shows that the photosynthetic behavior in the Picual variety is similar to that of shaded leaves, and in the Arbequina variety is similar to that of sun leaves. 相似文献

The use of tissue culture techniques for the international movement of potato clonal germplasm was studied. “Multi-meristem” cultures were established from virus-free plants by procedures described earlier by the authors. Well developed plantlets, regenerated aseptically from “nodal cuttings” of shoots produced in multi-meristem cultures, were used for international transfer. The medium contained the Murashige-Skoog mineral and vitamin components, with 2% sucrose, and was supplemented with 2 mg/l calcium pantothenate and 0.2 mg/l gibberellic acid. The cultures survived the mail shipment when 1% agar medium and small test tubes were used; polystyrene containers reduced damage due to abrupt temperature changes. At the receiving end, higher survival rates during the recovery of plants was achieved through potting of plantlets regenerated from nodal cutting cultures. A total of 43 pest and disease-free potato clones have been distributedin vitro from CIP to 10 different countries. The training of technicians from developing countries played an important role in the application of these methods. 相似文献

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) is endemic in most parts of Asia, where genotype I and II strains of diverse virulence may coexist. This study evaluated the outcome of infection with a highly virulent Asian genotype II PRRSV isolate in piglets vaccinated with a genotype I vaccine. Twenty-one 3-week-old piglets were divided in three groups: Pigs in group V (n=8) were vaccinated with an attenuated genotype I commercial PRRSV vaccine, while pigs in group U (n=8) and a control group (group C; n=5) were unvaccinated; 6 weeks later, pigs in groups V and U were challenged intranasally with a highly virulent strain of genotype II PRRSV (1×10(5) 50% tissue culture infectious doses/mL), while pigs in group C received a placebo. Over a period of 21 days after challenge, vaccinated pigs had significantly lower mortality (0/8 versus 2/8), fewer days of fever, a lower frequency of catarrhal bronchopneumonia, higher weight gains (13.4 versus 6.6 kg) and lower levels of viraemia compared to unvaccinated challenged pigs. Immunisation with a genotype I attenuated PRRSV vaccine provided partial protection against challenge with a highly virulent genotype II strain. 相似文献

This study evaluated the effect of three reversible meiotic inhibitors (MINs) and their interaction with gonadotrophins (Gns) on the meiotic maturation and developmental competence of porcine oocytes. In experiment 1, the oocytes were matured for 22 hr in the presence or absence of dbcAMP (1 mM), cycloheximide (7 μM) or cilostamide (20 μM) with or without Gns, and for an additional 22 hr in the absence of MINs and Gns. At 22 hr of maturation, regardless of the presence of Gns, a higher proportion (p < .001) of oocytes cultured in the presence of MINs were effectively arrested at the germinal vesicle stage compared with the oocytes cultured without MINs. At 44 hr of maturation, the proportion of oocytes that reached MII was higher (p < .05) in groups with Gns compared with groups without Gns. In experiment 2, oocytes that were matured as in experiment 1 were inseminated and cultured for 7 days to evaluate fertilization parameters and blastocyst formation. Only oocytes from the dbcAMP + Gns group had higher (p < .05) efficiency of fertilization compared with the other treatment groups. The presence of dbcAMP during maturation also increased (p < .05) blastocyst formation and efficiency of blastocyst formation in both the presence and absence of Gns. These results indicate that the interaction of Gns with the tested MINs improved meiotic progression. In addition, regardless of supplementation with Gns, the presence of dbcAMP during the first maturation period increased and even doubled the capacity of oocytes to develop to the blastocyst stage. 相似文献

The helminths infesting the common lizard, Zootoca vivipara (Jacquin, 1787), were studied with special attention to the relations between the number of nematodes, Oswaldocruzia filiformis (Goeze, 1782), and the size, sex and age class of the host. The possible seasonality of the parasite intensity and the relationship with the feeding habits of the host were also tested. Helminth infracommunities of Z. vivipara were depauperate with lizards harbouring only two species, the trematode Plagiorchis molini (Lent et Freitas, 1940) and the nematode O. filiformis. A positive correlation between host size and the number of O. filiformis was found for female Z. vivipara. However, no correlation was detected between intensity and sex or age class. The feeding habits of Z. vivipara, the isolation of the population studied and the low level of interaction with other reptilian or amphibian species are suggested as the causes of the depauperate helminth infracommunities found in this lacertid lizard. 相似文献

Feline heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis) infection is a severe, life-threatening disease. The eicosanoids are lipid mediators derived from the metabolism of the arachidonic acid, involved in the regulation of the immune response and of inflammatory reactions. In this study, naturally infected cats showed significant higher levels of prostaglandin E(2) (PGE2), thromboxane B(2) (TXB(2)) and leukotriene B(4) (LTB4) than uninfected cats. Changes in the levels of eicosanoids during the infection were observed in experimentally infected cats. PGE2 increased significantly during the first 60 days post-infection, then progressively decreased until day 180 post-infection. At this time, PGE2 values are still significantly higher than those observed before the infection. TxB2 and LTB4 increased progressively from the beginning of infection and reached their maximum levels 180 days post-infection. In experimentally infected, ivermectin-treated cats, 15 days after treatment (45 days after infection) both PGE2 and LTB4 levels were similar to those observed in experimentally infected, untreated cats. No significant differences of PGE2 levels were found before the infection and at the end of the experiment (165 days post-treatment, 195 days post-infection). Increased levels of LTB4 were found 15 days post-treatment, afterward they progressively decreased. These data show that D. immitis infection influences the production of intravascular eicosanoids in cats. The high levels of PGE2 observed in the early phase of infection could be related to the survival of the worms, while those of TxB2 and LTB4 detected at the end of the study could mediate the inflammatory reactions and thrombi formation during the feline dirofilariosis. 相似文献
