FTIR-ATR spectroscopy and multivariate analysis were used for quantification of sugars in mango juices as a function of ripening. Calibration was based on sucrose/glucose/fructose mixtures, with six concentration levels and following a triangular experimental design. PLS1 regression of the spectra first derivatives gave the best results, enabling quantification of fructose, sucrose, and glucose with 1.4, 1.4, and 4.9% prediction errors, respectively. Throughout ripening, sucrose and fructose were accurately quantified by PLS-FTIR, whereas the accuracy of glucose determination decreased at later stages, when concentrations fell to 0.6-1.5 g/L. These results enabled a correlation with fruit ripening stage to be established. This may be particularly useful to detect over-ripening in fresh fruits, a period when other indicators (pH and % soluble solids (SS)) do not change significantly; this knowledge may help in predicting fruit stability to transport and storage. Similar information obtained for nonfresh juices (in which pH and %SS may be masked by additives), may help determine whether the source fruits had suitable ripening stages.  相似文献

This paper discusses the suitability of four diffusion models to describe the drying of wood. The first model refers to the analytical solution of an infinite slab with boundary condition of the first kind. In the last three models, the boundary condition is of the third kind and the analytical solutions refer to the following geometries: infinite slab, rectangle, and parallelepiped. The analytical solutions were coupled to an optimizer based on inverse method, which enables to calculate process parameters for an experimental data set. Once the process parameters were determined, the drying kinetics of wood was simulated through each model proposed. The obtained results lead to the conclusion that the first model does not represent the drying kinetics properly. The last three models adequately describe the drying kinetics, but statistical indicators enable to affirm that the best of them is the three-dimensional model.  相似文献

This study was aimed to determine the efficacy of multispecies probiotics in reducing the severity of post-weaning diarrhea caused by enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) F18+ on newly weaned pigs. Thirty-two pigs (16 barrows and 16 gilts, BW = 6.99 ± 0.33 kg) at 21 d of age were individually allotted in a randomized complete block design with 2 × 2 factorial arrangement of treatments. Pigs were selected from sows not infected previously and not vaccinated against ETEC. Pigs were fed experimental diets for 25 d based on 10 d phase 1 and 15 d phase 2. The factors were ETEC challenge (oral inoculation of saline solution or E. coli F18+ at 2 × 109 CFU) and probiotics (none or multispecies probiotics 0.15% and 0.10% for phase 1 and 2, respectively). Body weight and feed intake were measured on d 5, 9, 13, 19, and 25. Fecal scores were measured daily. Blood samples were taken on d 19 and 24. On d 25, all pigs were euthanized to obtain samples of digesta, intestinal tissues, and spleen. The tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα), malondialdehyde (MDA), peptide YY (PYY), and neuropeptide Y (NPY) were measured in serum and intestinal tissue. Data were analyzed using the MIXED procedure of SAS. The fecal score of pigs was increased (P < 0.05) by ETEC challenge at the post–challenge period. The ETEC challenge decreased (P < 0.05) jejunal villus height and crypt depth, tended to increase (P = 0.056) jejunal TNFα, increased (P < 0.05) ileal crypt depth, and decreased (P < 0.05) serum NPY. The probiotics decreased (P < 0.05) serum TNFα, tended to reduce (P = 0.064) jejunal MDA, tended to increase (P = 0.092) serum PYY, and increased (P < 0.05) jejunal villus height, and especially villus height-to-crypt depth ratio in challenged pigs. Growth performance of pigs were not affected by ETEC challenge, whereas the probiotics increased (P < 0.05) ADG and ADFI and tended to increase (P = 0.069) G:F ratio. In conclusion, ETEC F18+ challenge caused diarrhea, intestinal inflammation and morphological damages without affecting the growth performance. The multispecies probiotics enhanced growth performance by reducing intestinal inflammation, oxidative stress, morphological damages.  相似文献

The present experiments on goats were conducted with the aim of verifying (a) whether the identity of the goat kids can affect the characteristics of milk let-down during suckling (Study 1) and (b) whether the presence of the goat kids may improve the milk let-down during hand milking (Study 2). In Study 1, 16 lactating goats with twins and 12 with single kids were used. Dams with single goat kids ejected more milk when suckling their kids at Days 5 and 20 of lactation, than when suckling aliens. Dams with twins ejected more milk when suckling their own kids than aliens only at Day 5 of lactation. Taking into account all the dams, they ejected more milk with more fat, protein, and lactose during suckling their own litter than when suckling aliens. In Study 2, when dams (n = 13) were hand milked in the presence of their own litter or in its absence, they ejected more milk with more fat, protein, and lactose than when milked in the presence of alien kids. We conclude that milk let-down in goats can be influenced by the type of stimuli applied or to which they are exposed to during suckling and milking.  相似文献

Carcass characteristic and meat quality from bulls and Nellore steers (n?=?64 total) subjected to different grazing heights (15, 25, 35, and 45 cm) were evaluated isolatedly, under continuous grazing and variable load, in pastures of Convert grass. The experimental period was from May 2015 to June 2017, in an area of 16 ha, divided into 16 paddocks of 1 ha. The experimental design was randomized blocks with four replications. Each paddock was grazed by three animals and regulators, used to adjust grazing heights. The final slaughter weight, hot carcass, and crude protein in the meat of steers were higher when the pastures were managed at 42 cm. When the pasture was managed between 25 and 35 cm in height, greater fat thickness, marbling, muscle:bone and muscle+fat:bone ratio and lower color* of the meat and percentage of bone were found. For the steers, the height of 40 cm provided higher fat thickness and marbling in the meat. The loss during thawing in meat was greater at 28 cm in height. The heights of grazing alter the carcass characteristics and meat of bulls and steers.

Climate change challenges organisms to adapt or move to track changes in environments in space and time. We used two measures of thermal shifts from analyses of global temperatures over the past 50 years to describe the pace of climate change that species should track: the velocity of climate change (geographic shifts of isotherms over time) and the shift in seasonal timing of temperatures. Both measures are higher in the ocean than on land at some latitudes, despite slower ocean warming. These indices give a complex mosaic of predicted range shifts and phenology changes that deviate from simple poleward migration and earlier springs or later falls. They also emphasize potential conservation concerns, because areas of high marine biodiversity often have greater velocities of climate change and seasonal shifts.  相似文献

Protein modification via covalent bonds by using microbial transglutaminase (TGase) has generated many processing functionality improvements in specific food ingredients. In this study, TGase was added into different cake portions (foam and yolk batter) at levels of 0, 0.5, and 1.0% (w/w, total protein weight basis). The treatment of 0.5% TGase in the yolk batter portion significantly (P ≤ 0.05) increased its emulsion activity. The addition of 1.0% TGase in the yolk batter portion significantly increased both foam stability and emulsion activity of cake batter, whereas the addition in the foam portion only increased the emulsion activity of cake batter significantly (P ≤ 0.05). As the addition of TGase, in foam or in the yolk batter portion, rose from 0 to 1.0%, the specific volume of chiffon cake increased. Cakes with 1.0% TGase in the foam portion had the maximum specific volume, 7.078 mL/g, and the softest texture. SDS‐PAGE was used to analyze the modifications of TGase to the protein fractions from different cake portions. The effect of TGase on protein fractions from the yolk batter portion was more evident than that on protein fractions from the foam portion. However, there was no significant difference between the protein fractions of cake batters with the same level of TGase in the foam and yolk portions, which suggested that the main substrates of TGase were yolk protein and wheat protein, instead of egg white protein.  相似文献

The effluents from bleached Kraft pulp mill (BKME) and paper industry are toxic to different aquatic organisms being an important source of contamination to aquatic environments due to the presence of several chemicals produced during the production of Kraft pulp. The main objective of the present study was to evaluate the exposure effects of a secondary-treated BKME in two different species of fish: Carassius auratus and Dicentrarchus labrax. Both species were exposed to different concentrations of secondary-treated effluent (1%, 10%, 25%, 50%, 100%) in semi-static tests under controlled laboratory conditions. At the end of the experimental period (21 days), samples of livers were collected for CYP1A determination and histopathological evaluation. The results show significant changes (p?<?0.05) of CYP1A induction in carp exposed to 50% and in sea bass exposed to 25% of the effluent. Histopathological alterations were also observed according to the different concentrations of the tested effluent suggesting that tested BKME cause damage to exposed organisms.  相似文献

The research on metals effect on macroalgae has been focused on Cd, Cu, Zn and Pb, and no study dealt with the effects of mercury on macroalgae growth rate. Also, the kinetic of accumulation is not well known. The main aim of this work was to assess the mercury accumulation kinetics of Ulva lactuca and its effects on growth rate. Three concentrations were tested: 5, 50 and 500???g?L?1, under static and renewal conditions and at two salinities (15 and 35), during 72?h. The mercury accumulation kinetic patterns were different according to the exposure conditions and metal concentration, but were always a very fast process (hours). Three patterns were established based on the models substrate inhibition, linear regression and Michaelis?CMenten equation. Statistical differences in the mercury accumulated were recorded depending on the salinity values and exposure conditions, being higher at salinity 15 and at renewal tests, corresponding to the lower relative growth rates. The lowest mercury concentration did not have an effect on relative growth rate, while the others caused an accentuated inhibition at 24?h. The highest concentration was toxic to algae causing its death before 48?h. Under controlled conditions, the U. lactuca??s high and fast ability for mercury accumulation could be useful for phytoremediation and for industrial wastewaters treatment.  相似文献
