The concentration and molecular weight distribution of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) are reported for a mangrove creek in the Hinchinbrook area, Australia. DOC concentration ranged from 1.0mg Cl–1 near the creek mouth to 2.2mg Cl–1 at the innermost part of the creek. There was no apparent spatial trend in molecular weight distribution of DOC, with a >300gmol–1 fraction accounting for about 70% of the total in all samples. DOC concentration fluctuated between 0.5 and 1.2mg Cl–1 over one tidal cycle. The samples collected at low tide and during the rising tide were dominated by DOC of >300gmol–1 and <300gmol–1, respectively. This suggested the export of high molecular weight DOC, probably originating from litter leachates, and the import of low molecular weight DOC to the creek.  相似文献

In 1980, field inoculations withSeptoria tritici were performed on winter wheat cv. Okapi. Leaf necrosis progress curves were established; they were sigmoid and could be transformed into logit lines. There was a great difference in the slope of the logit lines between inoculated plots and non-inoculated controls. The mid-time values varied according to inoculum dosage and post-inoculation humidity treatment. Yields (kg ha?1) and average grain weights (mg grain?1) differed significantly between inoculated and non-inoculated plots, but seldom among inoculation treatments. Decrease of average grain weight completely explained yield loss, which was 878 kg ha?1 or 12% of control (7045 kg ha?1). This crop loss is considerable for a cultivar which is not particularly susceptible. A good correlation was found between the amount of necrosis at development stages DC=75 and 77 and yield depression. The integral of necrosis over time gave a high correlation with loss of kernel weight.  相似文献

In order to replace copper fungicides in organic potato production, 53 copper-free preparations (CFPs) based on natural compounds, including plant extracts and microorganisms, and five copper preparations were evaluated for their potential to control Phytophthora infestans, the pathogen that causes late blight of potatoes. In in vitro assays, 30% of the CFPs inhibited indirect germination of sporangia, 26% mycelial growth and in growth chamber experiments, 21% efficiently reduced foliar blight of tomato plants. In micro-plot field trials with applications twice a week, the copper preparations were the most effective and reduced foliar blight by 99%. Of the CFPs tested, Oekofluid P, Mycosin and other sulphuric clays, and C-2000 reduced late blight the most, from 63% to 37%. In small-plot trials in 2001, 2002 and 2004, 27 CFPs with different formulations and four copper preparations were examined. In 2004, copper preparations at full and reduced rates and sulphuric clays were applied either weekly or according to the decision support system Bio-PhytoPRE. With Bio-PhytoPRE, copper preparations reduced foliar blight of potatoes by 23–77% and increased tuber yield by 2–28%, depending on the copper rate applied and year. With CFPs, maximal efficacy was 17% and no effect on tuber yield was observed. In vitro and in vivo trials showed that the rainfastness and the persistence of CFPs was low compared with copper preparations. This indicates that the failure of CFPs under field conditions is probably due to a lack of stability under prevailing environmental conditions and not to a lack of efficacy. Until stable formulations for CFPs are developed, an optimised and restricted use of copper fungicides using a decision support system could help to control late blight in organic potato production and to reduce copper input into the environment.  相似文献

Haematology, blood chemistry and urine values were determined for 44 adult free-ranging plains viscachas (Lagostomus maximus; Rodentia, Chinchillidae) in their pampas habitat in central Argentina. The study animals were captured in the wild and anaesthetized with a ketamine-xylazine combination for physical examination and sampling. Blood was obtained by venipuncture of the saphenous vein. Results for many of the blood parameters fall within the reference ranges for pet chinchillas. Differentiation of white blood cells revealed a predominantly neutrophil count for plains viscachas, while chinchillas have predominantly lymphocytes. Mean values for blood urea nitrogen, creatinine, aspartate aminotransferase and sodium were higher than the upper limit of the reference range for pet chinchillas. The results of seven analytes (haematocrit, haemoglobin, glucose, blood urea nitrogen, sodium, potassium, chloride) were compared by using both a portable blood analyser (i-STAT) in the field and conventional laboratory methods. In general, correlation and agreement between the two methods were low for most parameters.  相似文献

Fusarium head blight is one of the most noxious cereal diseases. Worldwide, F. graminearum (FG) and the mycotoxin deoxynivalenol (DON) is the most dominant species/mycotoxin in barley and wheat. Barley is often produced as on farm feed and thus routine mycotoxin analyses similar to those of cereals for human consumption are not performed. Hence, an early prediction of mycotoxin levels is important for farmers to minimise the risk of contaminated feed but also of contaminated cereals entering the cereal supply chain. Therefore, climate chamber experiments with artificial FG infection of barley investigating the influence of different temperatures (10 °C, 15 °C, 20 °C) and durations (4 h, 8 h, 12 h) at 99% relative humidity were conducted to accumulate data to develop a forecasting system. An up to three times higher DON contamination in the 15 °C treatments for the feed barley variety Ascona was detected compared with the 10 °C and 20 °C treatments. For the malting barley variety Concerto, the prolonged humidity durations had a stronger effect under all tested temperatures and resulted in up to two times higher DON contaminations. In addition, field experiments where spore deposition during anthesis as well as disease incidence, fungal amount and mycotoxins were observed, showed that the overwintered straw treatment resulted, depending on the year, in a three times higher FG incidence and DON content compared with the control and freshly inoculated straw treatment.  相似文献

The Fusarium species complex of maize kernels and stem pieces as well as mycotoxin contamination of commercial grain maize hybrids for animal feed were evaluated in Switzerland. Throughout 2 years, natural Fusarium infection varied significantly between the years and the locations and it ranged from 0.4% to 49.7% for kernels and from 24.2% to 83.8% for stem pieces. Using the agar plate method, 16 different Fusarium species were isolated from kernels and 15 from stem pieces. The Fusarium species composition, prevalence and impact differed between the north and the south and between kernel and stem piece samples. The dominant species on kernels in the north were F. verticillioides (32.9%), F. graminearum (31.3%), F. proliferatum (7.3%) and F. crookwellense (7.1%), in the south F. verticillioides (57.1%), F. subglutinans (24.6%), F. proliferatum (14.8%) and F. graminearum (1.5%) and on stem pieces F. equiseti (36.0%), F. verticillioides (20.1%), F. graminearum (9.5%), F. crookwellense (6.2%) and F. subglutinans (6.2%). In the south, fumonisin concentration of most hybrids exceeded guidance values for animal feed. Other Fusarium species isolated were F. avenaceum, F. culmorum, F. oxysporum, F. poae, F. sambucinum, F. semitectum, F. sporotrichioides, F. solani, F. tricinctum and F. venenatum. Maize hybrids varied in their susceptibility to Fusarium infection. Because of the high diversity of Fusarium species encountered in Switzerland representing a high toxigenic potential, we propose to screen maize hybrids for resistance against various Fusarium species and examine maize produce for several mycotoxins in order to ensure feed safety.  相似文献

Developing and testing models for solute transport in the field requires experimental data on the spreading of solutes in the soil. Obtaining such data is costly, and a substantial part of the total costs is in the preparation and chemical analysis of the tracing compounds in the gathered samples. We developed a cheap method to quantify the concentration of the mobile dye tracer Brilliant Blue FCF from digitized photographs of stained soil profiles, and we have tested it in the field. Soil sampling and chemical analyses were necessary only to establish a calibration relation between the dye content and the colour of the soil. The digital images were corrected for geometrical distortions, varying background brightness, and colour tinges, and then they were analysed to determine the soil colour at sampling points in the profiles. The resident concentration of the dye was modelled by polynomial regression with the primary colours red, green, blue and the soil depth as explanatory variables. Concentration maps of Brilliant Blue were then computed from the digitized images with a spatial resolution of 1 mm. Validation of the technique with independent data showed that the method predicted the concentration of the dye well, provided the corrected images contained only the colours included in the calibration.  相似文献

Deoxynivalenol and zearalenone are among the most prevalent toxins produced by Fusarium spp. They have been investigated in food and feed products for decades but rarely in the environment. We therefore established solid-phase extraction and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) methods to quantify these mycotoxins at trace concentrations in aqueous natural samples. In a model emission study, we inoculated a winter wheat field with Fusarium graminearum and subsequently monitored deoxynivalenol and zearalenone in its drainage water. Before during and after harvest in June and July 2007, these toxins were emitted in concentrations from 23 ng/L to 4.9 microg/L for deoxynivalenol and from not detected to 35 ng/L for zearalenone. Simultaneously, in July and August 2007, deoxynivalenol was also detected in a number of Swiss rivers in concentrations up to 22 ng/L and zearalenone was present in several river samples below the method quantification limit. Other mycotoxins might be emitted from Fusarium-infected fields as well, because some of them are produced in similar amounts as deoxynivalenol and zearalenone and exhibit similar or even higher water solubility than deoxynivalenol. The ecotoxicological consequences of the presence of mycotoxins in surface waters remain to be elucidated.  相似文献

Selenium and vitamin E concentrations were measured in the blood sera of 287 cows in 91 herds. Herds with chronic mastitis and muscle diseases had significantly lower selenium concentrations (10.4 +/- 5.26 and 11.7 +/- 8.63 micrograms/litre serum, respectively) than healthy control herds (17.7 +/- 15.00 micrograms/litre). The selenium concentrations in herds with low fertility did not differ from control herds. The vitamin E concentrations were similar in all the herds. Supplementation of the mineral mixture with 20 mg sodium selenite and 2 g vitamin E/kg on 15 farms with a deficient selenium supply increased the selenium concentrations in the blood within two months in 12 of the herds. The vitamin E concentrations were hardly influenced by the supplementation.  相似文献
