Biochar is increasingly promoted as a beneficial soil conditioner. However, it may contain residues of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) as a result of its production by pyrolysis. To date, analytical methods to analyze PAHs in biochar quantitatively are hardly available. This study presents an optimized and validated procedure to quantify the 16 U.S. EPA PAHs in biochar. PAHs were best extracted with Soxhlet for 36 h using 100% toluene. Average absolute recoveries of isotope labeled internal standards used for each analyte from three different biochars ranged from 42% to 72%, and relative recoveries were between 71% and 105%. The limits of detection were biochar-dependent, but on average a factor of >50 lower than quantified PAH concentrations (9-355 mg kg(dry weight)(-1)). The established method prepares the ground for a harmonized protocol for PAH analysis of biochars, a necessity for biochar quality control, registration, and legislation. 相似文献

Within plant protection the products from citronella oil and neem mostly were used against pests. Their application for weed control is still at the beginning. This special application, however, needs higher dosages. The possible soil contamination and the missing microbiological-ecotoxicological information initiated our laboratory trial. The dosages used were relatively high as was necessary for weed control. They allowed the investigation of dose-effect relationships. In a loamy sand soil the biomass-related dehydrogenase activities as well as the carbon mineralization (actual and cumulative CO2 formation) were measured. Because a soil with and without lucerne meal amendment was used the specific activity increase (=?LIA) could be calculated for both microbial parameters. Mostly both microbial activities were dose-dependently stimulated by the neem compound. Citronella oil at the beginning inhibited with the higher dosages and later on stimulated these activities. Most of the stimulations may be caused by the microbial decomposition of the organic compounds amended to the soil, which overlie some expected biocidal effects. This allows a preliminary estimation of the microbiological-ecotoxicological effects as less critical. Depending on the very high amounts needed for weed control, however, a final evaluation should consider additional investigations with further microbial activities and other soil organisms. 相似文献

When generating experimental designs for field trials laid out on a rectangular grid of plots, it is useful to allow for blocking in both rows and columns. When the design is nonresolvable, randomized classical row–column designs may occasionally involve clustered placement of several replications of a treatment. In our experience, this feature prevents the more frequent use of these useful designs in practice. Practitioners often prefer a more even distribution of treatment replications. In this paper we illustrate how spatial variance–covariance structures can be used to achieve a more even distribution of treatment replications across the field and how such designs compare with classical row–column designs in terms of efficiency factors. Technical hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH) and lindane are obsolete pesticides whose former production and use led to widespread contaminations posing serious and lasting health and environmental risks. Out of nine possible stereoisomers, alpha-, beta-, gamma-, and delta-HCH are usually present at contaminated sites, and research for a better understanding of their biodegradation has become essential for the development of appropriate remediation technologies. Because haloalkane dehalogenase LinB was recently found responsible for the hydroxylation of beta-HCH, delta-HCH, and delta-pentachlorocyclohexene (delta-PCCH), we decided to examine whether beta- and gamma-PCCH, which can be formed by LinA from alpha- and gamma-HCH, respectively, were also converted by LinB. Incubation of such substrates with Escherichia coli BL21 expressing functional LinB originating from Sphingobium indicum B90A showed that both beta-PCCH and gamma-PCCH were direct substrates of LinB. Furthermore, we identified the main metabolites as 3,4,5,6-tetrachloro-2-cyclohexene-1-ols and 2,5,6-trichloro-2-cyclohexene-1,4-diols by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. In contrast to alpha-HCH, gamma-HCH was not a substrate for LinB. On the basis of our data, we propose a modified gamma-HCH degradation pathway in which gamma-PCCH is converted to 2,5-cyclohexadiene-1,4-diol via 3,4,5,6-tetrachloro-2-cyclohexene-1-ol and 2,5,6-trichloro-2-cyclohexene-1,4-diol. 相似文献

The species of the genus Yponomeuta Latreille (Lepidoptera: Yponomeutidae) are known as ermine moths and can be found on various host plant species, sometimes appearing as pests. They are attacked by a wide range of parasitoids. We studied parasitoid complexes of several communities in Austria, Poland, Serbia, Slovenia and Sweden during 2014–2018. From four species, Yponomeuta cagnagella (Hübner), Yponomeuta evonymella (Linnaeus), Yponomeuta malinellus Zeller and Yponomeuta padella (Linnaeus), we reared 15 parasitoid species of seven hymenopteran and one dipteran family. In this study, the family Ichneumonidae is the most numerous, while Ageniaspis fuscicollis (Dalman) (Hymenoptera: Encyrtidae) was found in all four Yponomeuta species. Within reared parasitoids, A. fuscicollis is new record for Slovenia and Austria, Baryscapus evonymellae (Bouché) (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae) and Diadegma armillatum (Gravenhorst) (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae) are new records for Slovenia and Agrypon canaliculatum (Ratzeburg) (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae), Dolichogenidea dilecta (Haliday) (Hymenoptera: Braconidae), Elasmus steffani Viggiani (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae), Herpestomus brunnicornis (Gravenhorst) (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae), Trieces tricarinatus (Holmgren) (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae) and Mesochorus nuncupator (Panzer) (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae) are new records for Serbia. Also, Yponomeuta cagnagella is a new host record for Pteromalus semotus (Walker) (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae) and Y. padella for E. steffani. Finally, we reviewed parasitoids of European Yponomeuta species and their associated host plants. In total 154 species are recorded from nine hymenopteran and one dipteran family. 相似文献

Inorganic toxicants in soils of North Rhine-Westphalia. I. Evaluation of multi-modal frequency distributions In 335 soil samples from North Rhine-Westphalia the contents of 18 elements were quantified (total contents, mobilizable fraction (extraction with EDTA cocktail), mobile fraction (extraction with NH4NO3). An inspection of the resulting histograms revealed that the distribution of element contents in soils is not normal and even not log-normal. The appearance of several peaks indicates the existence of multi-modal distributions with various independent sub-distributions. Two methods for analysing such data sets are presented. The parametric approach assumes several single lognormal components, which are fitted by the Expectation Maximization Algorithm. In a nonparametric approach the Kernel Density Estimation is used. With this procedure five to ten concentration levels can be determined per element for our data set with corresponding groups of soil samples being characterized by common features (e.g., parent material, region of origin, specific source of pollution). This way, e.g., background concentrations for potentially toxic elements can be derived. The metabolism of cyprodinil, a novel broad-spectrum fungicide, was investigated in rats. After single oral administration of 0.5 or 100 mg kg−1 body weight, [phenyl-U-14C]cyprodinil was rapidly eliminated, principally in the urine. The metabolite pattern in urine exhibited a significant sex-related difference with respect to the major metabolite. Males and females both produced a dihydroxy metabolite, N-4-(hydroxyphenyl)-4-cyclopropyl-5-hydroxy-6-methylpyrimidin-2-ylamine. Female rats conjugated this metabolite with sulfate exclusively at the 5-hydroxypyrimidinyl moiety, while males formed equal amounts of the monosulfate and a disulfate conjugate. The sex dimorphism in the conjugation reaction indicates the involvement of a sex-specific sulfotransferase that catalyzed the transfer of the second sulfate group. 相似文献

Two fatty acids, (2E,4Z)-decadienoic acid and (2E,4Z,7Z)-decatrienoic acid, the latter being described for the first time as a natural product, were detected in the culture filtrate of Streptomyces viridochromogenes Tü 6105 by HPLC-diode array screening, purified by chromatographic methods and structurally elucidated by NMR techniques. Both metabolites show strong herbicidal activity against Lemna minor and Lepidium sativum.
