Focussing on four types of parenchyma cell around pith regions of branches of Robinia pseudoacacia L. var. inermis, we examined the timing and role of cell death during heartwood formation. Large parenchyma cells that were located in the inner part of the pith died within a year. By contrast, other parenchyma cells died within 4 years, with the timing of cell death depending on the type of cell. Axial parenchyma cells of the xylem close to the pith died first. Then, small parenchyma cells died in the perimedullary zone in the outer part of the pith. Finally, ray parenchyma cells in the xylem close to the pith died. Variations in the autofluorescence of cell walls, which might have been due to deposition of heartwood substances, were observed first in xylem ray parenchyma cells and small parenchyma cells in the perimedullary zone. Our results indicate that the initiation of heartwood formation occurs within 4 years in pith regions of branches in Robinia pseudoacacia L. var. inermis. Moreover, it appears that not only xylem ray parenchyma cells but also small parenchyma cells in the perimedullary zone might be involved in the synthesis of heartwood substances.  相似文献

Although plantation forests have widely replaced native forests worldwide, few studies have examined the effects of plantation forestry on organisms at the landscape level. In this study, we examined the effects of broad-leaved forest patch area (1.4–312 ha) on bird assemblages in a conifer plantation-dominated landscape during wintering and breeding seasons. We also surveyed birds in the plantation matrix and treated the patch area of the matrix as 0. We examined whether the detection rates of species changed suddenly across patch area (threshold) using segmented regression. We found that species richness increased with patch area in both seasons. Responses of detection rates to patch area varied and were categorized as follows: insensitive, linear increase and decrease, quadratic increase and decrease, concave and convex. Thresholds indicating that the detection rate suddenly increased above a certain patch area were found for two species only in the winter. Species responses varied more in the winter than in the breeding season. Certain ecological traits of species were consistently associated with the responses to patch area across seasons (migratory strategy, nesting substrate and foraging trait), while body weight was only associated in the winter. Because species richness and detection rates of many species were high in large patches, large broad-leaved forests (especially >40 ha) should be retained and restored with high priority. Additionally, bird responses to patch area in the winter should not be ignored because many species required large patches during the winter season.  相似文献

The molecular diversity of bacterial chitinases in the bulk soils of arable land was investigated using culture-independent methods. The results demonstrate that bacterial chitinases in arable soils are highly diverse and comprise unique groups when their sequences were compared to those in public databases. The diversity of bacterial chitinases in arable soil was further evaluated using conventional phylogenetic analysis, the UniFrac analysis of the phylogenetic data, and the multidimensional scaling (MDS) analysis of T-RFLP profiles to elucidate the relationship between the diversity of bacterial chitinases and soil characteristics. These analyses indicate that environmental factors such as soil type and pH are responsible for shaping the composition of bacterial chitinases.  相似文献

Mungbean (Vigna radiata (L.) Wilcz.) is an important leguminous crop cultivated mainly in Asia. Its wild relatives are considered useful genetic resources for mungbean breeding. However, the taxonomic history of mungbean and its wild relatives is complicated and some confusion is still present in recent publications. In this study, we examined the rDNA-ITS sequences and morphological characteristics of 83 gene bank accessions closely related to mungbean. As a result, we classified the 83 accessions into five species and one unclassified accession. The proper taxon name for each species was determined (Vigna grandiflora (Prain) Tateishi et Maxted, Vigna mungo (L.) Hepper, V. radiata, Vigna subramaniana (Babu ex Raizada) Raizada, and Vigna trinervia (Heyne ex Wight et Arn.) Tateishi et Maxted) based on a review of their taxonomic history and morphological comparisons between gene bank accessions and type specimens. A new taxonomic treatment is proposed and a morphological key has been prepared. In this treatment, Vigna radiata (L.) Wilcz. var. setulosa (Dalz.) Ohwi et Ohashi is treated as a synonym of Vigna radiata (L.) Wilcz. var. sublobata (Roxb.) Verdc., and Vigna hainiana Babu, Gopinathan et Sharma is a synonym of V. subramaniana. Accession ‘NI1135’ was revealed to be most closely related to, but is considerably differentiated from, mungbean (V. radiata) based on its rDNA-ITS sequences. It also has distinguishing morphological characters. Plants with similar morphologies and DNA profiles might be distributed in the Indian Himalaya. However, since only one accession is available at present, the taxonomic classification of ‘NI1135’ needs to be reconsidered in the future.  相似文献

Propofol was used as an induction agent of general anesthesia in 77 dogs and 64 cats, all client owned, for a variety of surgeries/treatments or diagnostic procedures. The mean intravenous doses of propofol required to achieve endotracheal intubation in dogs and cats were 6.5 +/- 1.4 mg/kg and 10.1 +/- 2.8 mg /kg, respectively. Most of the animals could be induced to anesthesia smoothly by the administration of propofol with a high incidence of apnea. Propofol is a clinically valuable anesthetic induction agent in both dogs and cats, however, care must be taken for apnea.  相似文献

The first case of human babesiosis was reported in Japan. The epidemiology of this disease in Japanese nature remains unclear. In this study, 97 common field mice captured in Hokkaido, Japan, were examined. Blood specimens absorbed onto filter papers were eluted and tested by nested PCR using specific primers for the B. microti nuclear small subunit rRNA genome. Twenty-three percent (11/47) of Apodemus speciosus and four percent (2/50) of Clethrionomys rufocanus were positive. The 159-bp primary sequences of PCR products tested exhibited 97.5% and 96.8% homology with those of the human isolate in Japan and of U.S. strains of B. microti, respectively.  相似文献

Immunohistochemical localization of TGF-alpha and cell proliferation kinetics during liver regeneration after two-thirds partial hepatectomy (PH) were investigated. Twenty-four to 72 hr after PH, appreciable increase in the number of TGF-alpha-positive hepatocytes was observed in zones 1 and 2. At the peak at 36 hr, almost all positive cells were stained in their nuclei. Considerable increase in the BrdU labeling index was observed 24-36 hr after PH with a peak at 24 hr in zones 1 and 2. These results indicated an association between TGF-alpha expression and hepatocyte regeneration. It is suggested that immunohistochemical localization of TGF-alpha may be a useful marker of cell proliferation activity in rat liver.  相似文献

The effect of long-storage and silica gel desiccation of hyacinth bulbs (Hyacinthus orientalis L.) on in vitro bulblet formation was investigated.Bulbs of 3 cultivars were stored at 25°C and 50–60% relative humidity for 17 months. This long-term storage of bulbs markedly enhanced bulblet initiation from scales and growth of regenerated bulblets.Bulbs of 5 cultivars were desiccated with silica gel for 5 and 20 h before in vitro propagation. The total number of bulblets increased as a result of 5 h desiccation with silica gel. Bulb desiccation for 20 h caused a large increase in the growth rate of bulblets. This desiccation treatment with silica gel is a practical method to obtain many and more regenerative explants in the in vitro propagation of hyacinth.  相似文献

This paper presents a method for detecting gullet cracks in a bandsaw during sawing by monitoring burst-type acoustic emission (AE) signals with large amplitude. The amplitudes of the AE signal and profile height amplitude distributions based on roughness profiles of the sawn surface were compared for the bandsaw with and without gullet cracks. The amplitudes of the AE signal increased and the sawn surface quality became worse with the increased number of gullet cracks in the bandsaw.  相似文献
