This study was to evaluate the effect of xylanase supplementation and the addition of live yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, on growth performance and intestinal microbiota in piglets. One hundred and eighty commercial crossbred 23-d-old piglets (PIC 417) were sorted by initial BW and allocated to 3 treatments: control (CTR) diet, CTR diet supplemented with xylanase at 16,000 birch xylan units/kg (XYL) and XYL diet supplemented with live yeast (2 × 1010 CFU/g) at 1 kg/t (XYL + LY). Each treatment had 10 replicates, with 6 animals each. A sorghum-based diet and water were available ad libitum for 42 d of the study. Average daily gain (ADG) and average daily feed intake (ADFI) were measured from 0 to 42 d (23- to 65-d-old) and feed conversion ratio (FCR) calculated. At the end of the study, bacterial identification through 16S rRNA (V3 to V4) sequencing of the ileal and caecal digesta from one piglet per replicate was performed. No treatment effects were observed on ADFI. Pigs offered the live yeast in addition to the xylanase had increased ADG compared with those supplemented with xylanase alone (XYL + LY vs. XYL; P = 0.655). FCR was improved with XYL and XYL + LY compared with CTR (P = 0.018). Clostridiaceae counts in the ileum tended to reduce by 10% with XYL and 14% with XYL + LY compared to CTR (P = 0.07). XYL and XYL + LY increased the counts of Lactobacillaceae in the caecum compared with CTR (P < 0.0001). Dietary supplementation of live yeast combined with xylanase improved growth performance and microbial balance of piglets during the nursery phase. 相似文献

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the acaricidal efficacy of thymol on unengorged and engorged larvae and engorged nymphs of Amblyomma cajennense. To perform the test for unengorged larvae, the larval packet technique was employed and mortality was evaluated 24h after the test, while for engorged larvae and engorged nymphs the immersion technique was employed and mortality was evaluated after 15 days. In all the experiments, the following concentrations of thymol were tested: 2.5, 5.0, 10.0, 15.0 and 20.0mg the thymol/ml. The control group was exposed to water and 1% DMSO and there were 10 repetitions for each treatment. The values found for mortality of unengorged larvae were 18.2%, 51.8%, 97.6%, 93.5% and 94.5%, and for engorged nymphs the values were 26.0%, 92.2%, 100.0%, 100.0%, 100.0%, in concentrations of 2.5, 5.0, 10.0, 15.0 and 20.0mg of thymol/ml, respectively. In the test with engorged larvae, mortality was 100.0% in all treatments. Based on the results, it is possible to conclude that thymol has acaricidal activity against immature stages of A. cajennense. 相似文献

ObjectiveThis study aimed to evaluate the benefit and specifically the feasibility of using ultrasound in ophthalmologic periconal block, and the occurrence of complications.Study designProspective experimental study.AnimalsTen healthy New Zealand White rabbits (6–8 months of age), weighing 2.0–3.5 kg.MethodsRabbits were anesthetized by intramuscular injection of acepromazine (1 mg kg−1), ketamine (30 mg kg−1) and xylazine (3 mg kg−1). Ultrasound-assisted periconal block with lidocaine was performed on 18 eyes. Intraocular pressure was measured by applanation tonometry whereas corneal sensitivity was assessed using an esthesiometer, before and after each periconal anesthesia.ResultsIn all 18 eyes, it was possible to adequately visualize the needle shaft within the periconal space, as well as muscular cone, optic nerve and local anesthetic solution spread. Lidocaine 2% without epinephrine (0.79 ± 0.19 mL) was injected into the periconal space. There was no statistical difference between the intraocular pressure (mean ± SD) measured before (10.9 ± 2.9 mmHg) and after (11.9 ± 3.8 mmHg) the periconal anesthesia (p = 0.38). The effectiveness of the ultrasound-assisted technique was shown according to the values for corneal sensitivity, assessed before and after periconal anesthesia (p < 0.0001). Complications were not observed in this study.ConclusionsEye ultrasonography allowed visualization of all anatomic structures necessary to perform a periconal block, as well as the needle insertion and anesthetic spread in real time. Further studies are required to prove the real potential of ultrasound for reducing the incidence of complications associated with ophthalmic blocks, especially when anatomic disorders of the eye could potentially increase the risk.Clinical relevanceUltrasonography is a painless, noninvasive tool that may improve safety of ophthalmic regional blocks, potentially by reducing the prevalence of globe perforation or penetration of the optic nerve associated with the needle-based techniques. 相似文献

Seeds Collected from Different Ziziphus joazeiro Plants Are Differently Affected by Gibberellic Acid

Ziziphus joazeiro is a tree endemic to Caatinga, Northeastern Brazil, with great economic potential. However, its commercial production is still limited due to low and non-uniform germination of seeds. Recently we demonstrated that gibberellic acid (GA3) stimulates the emergence and uniformity of seedlings in this species. In its natural habitat, however, great morphological diversity between Z. joazeiro trees is found, suggesting great genetic variability. Therefore, it was necessary to test if the GA3 effect is a general response. We collected seeds from four plants maintained in a collection. The plants were selected according to contrasting morphological characteristics. After breaking impermeability with 98% sulfuric acid, the seeds were treated with 2 mmol L?1 GA3 or a control with distillated water for 24 h. Effects ranged from great, low, and no effect of GA3 stimulating the percentage and rapidity of emergence between genotypes tested. For reforestation, thus, the GA3 treatment of Z. joazeiro seeds might reduce its genetic variability; but for economic production, it will be an adequate and simple treatment to increase the quantity and uniformity of seedlings. 相似文献

The expression of melatonin type 1 (MT1) and FSH (FSHR) receptors in caprine ovaries and the effects of these hormones on the in vitro development of isolated pre‐antral follicles were evaluated. Follicles (≤200 μm) were cultured for 12 days in α‐MEM (control) or melatonin (100 or 1000 pg/ml) or sequential melatonin medium (100 pg/ml: from day 0 to day 6; 1000 pg/ml: from day 6 to day 12; experiment 1) and in control or sequential FSH (100 ng/ml from day 0 to day 6; 500 ng/ml from day 6 to day 12) or sequential melatonin or this latter plus sequential FSH (experiment 2). MT1 and FSHR expressions were observed in granulosa cells from secondary and antral follicles. The oocytes from primordial and primary follicles also express FSHR. Sequential melatonin increased the percentage of normal follicles and oocyte recovery compared with the control or melatonin (1000 pg/ml) at day 12. In experiment 2, all the treatments increased the normal follicles and growth compared with the control. In conclusion, this study demonstrated the presence of MT1 and FSHR in caprine ovaries. The addition of increased concentrations of melatonin (sequential medium) or FSH can be used to promote the in vitro development of caprine pre‐antral follicles. 相似文献

The stabilisation of soil organic matter (SOM) is the result of the simultaneous action of three mechanisms: chemical stabilisation, biochemical stabilisation and physical protection. The objectives of this study were (i) to evaluate carbon-protection mechanisms in different SOM pools in soil aggregates and (ii) to identify the association of Ca2 + with total organic carbon (TOC) under the influence of surface liming in a medium-textured Oxisol in a long-term experiment under no-till system (NTS) in southern Brazil (25° 10′ S, 50° 05′ W). The treatments consisted of application of zero or 6 tons ha? 1 of dolomitic lime on the soil surface in 1993 and a reapplication of zero or 3 tons ha? 1 of dolomitic lime in 2000 to plots with or without previous lime application. Soil samples collected at depths of 0–2.5, 2.5–5, 5–10 and 10–20 cm were separated into seven aggregate classes. In each of these classes, TOC, particulate organic carbon (POC) and mineral-associated organic carbon (MAOC) were analysed. The 8–19 mm sized aggregates from the 0–2.5 cm layer were assessed by energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) for the elemental analysis of carbon (C) and calcium (Ca). The liming caused an accumulation of TOC in the aggregates, mainly at a depth of 0–2.5 cm. The aggregates from soils treated with lime had a higher mean weight diameter (MWD) that resulted in the accumulation of TOC, especially in the 8–19 mm aggregate class, that was linear and closely related with C input (R2 = 0.99). The proportion of large aggregates in the treatments with lime was closely correlated with the TOC content of the whole sample. The largest dose of lime (9 tons ha? 1) resulted in higher TOC, POC and MAOC values, mainly in the 8–19 mm aggregate class. The elemental analyses for C and Ca revealed similar spectra between them for the surface-liming treatments in the clay fraction found in the centres of the 8–19 mm aggregates. The surface application of lime to NT fields provided greater stability and protection of the intra-aggregate C, presumably due to Ca2 + acting as a cationic bridge between OC and the kaolinite in the clay fraction. 相似文献

Using residual water from a marine shrimp farming BFT system. Part II: Artemia franciscana biomass production fed microalgae grown in reused BFT water 下载免费PDF全文
The residual water from intensive aquaculture production systems can be utilized in integrated multitrophic cultivations. In this work, Artemia franciscana received daily feedings of 10 mg L?1 of Tetraselmis chuii, Nannochloropsis oculata and Chaetoceros muelleri, which were grown using residual water from an intensive biofloc Litopenaeus vannamei cultivation system. The goal of this study was to verify which species provide the best zootechnical performance and best crustacean biomass production efficiency. After 12 days of cultivation, A. franciscana wet biomass was 815.64 ± 18.74, 650.81 ± 83.98 and 40.76 ± 4.08 mg L?1 with C. muelleri, T. chuii and N. oculata (P < 0.05), with significant differences in dried biomass as well. As for the microalgae cultivation in the alternative culture medium, T. chuii had higher dry biomass gain, requiring less culture volume to achieve 10 mg L?1 and become ready to feed Artemia. Thus, T. chuii was the most efficient in Artemia biomass production with 0.83 L compared to 1.54 L g art?1 in C. muelleri. C. muelleri is recommended for feeding A. franciscana for biomass production purposes. However, due to its better efficiency, T. chuii can be selected to be part of a multitrophic system. 相似文献

Brain cholinesterases from four fish (Arapaima gigas, Colossoma macropomum, Rachycentron canadum and Oreochromis niloticus) were characterized using specific substrates and selective inhibitors. Parameters of catalytic efficiency such as activation energy (AE), k cat and k cat/k m as well as rate enhancements produced by these enzymes were estimated by a method using crude extracts described here. Despite the BChE-like activity, specific substrate kinetic analysis pointed to the existence of only acetylcholinesterase (AChE) in brain of the species studied. Selective inhibition suggests that C. macropomum brain AChE presents atypical activity regarding its behavior in the presence of selective inhibitors. AE data showed that the enzymes increased the rate of reactions up to 1012 in relation to the uncatalyzed reactions. Zymograms showed the presence of AChE isoforms with molecular weights ranging from 202 to 299 kDa. Values of k cat and k cat/k m were similar to those found in the literature. 相似文献
