ObjectiveTo record the bispectral index (BIS) when horses moved during either halothane or sevoflurane anaesthesia and when they made volitional movements during recovery from these anaesthetics.Study designRandomized prospective clinical study.AnimalsTwenty-five client-owned horses undergoing surgery aged 8.8 (± 5.3; 1–19) years (mean ± SD; range).MethodsBaseline BIS values were recorded before pre-anaesthetic medication (BISB) and during anaesthesia (BISA) maintained with halothane (group H; n = 12) or sevoflurane (group S; n =13) at approximately 0.8–0.9 × minimum alveolar concentrations (MAC). Bispectral indices were recorded during the surgery when unexpected movement occurred (BISMA), during recovery when the first movement convincingly associated with consciousness was observed (BISM1) and once sternal recumbency was achieved (BISST).ResultsNo significant difference in BISM1 was found between halothane- (85 ± 7; 75–93) and sevoflurane- (87 ± 10; 70–98) anaesthetized horses although BISA was significantly (p = 0.0002) lower in group S (62 ± 7; 53–72) than group H (74 ± 7; 60–84). Differences between BISM1 and BISA were significant in sevoflurane (p = 0.00001) and halothane recipients (p = 0.002) but were greater in group S (25 ± 9; 4–38) compared with group H (12 ± 10; ?9–25). In six of eight horses, BISMA values ranged between those recorded during anaesthesia and at first movement.Conclusions and clinical relevanceBispectral indices appear to approximate levels of unconsciousness, suggesting that monitoring the BIS may assist equine anaesthesia. The aim of this paper was to study how maturity and maceration length affect color, phenolic compounds, polysaccharides, and sensorial quality of Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo wines at three stages of grape ripening. Ripeness increased color extractability, phenolic compounds, and polysaccharide concentrations. Moreover, the proanthocyanidin mean degree of polymerization (mDP) and the percentage of prodelphinidins also increased with maturity, whereas the percentage of galloylation decreased. In general, wines from riper grapes contain higher proportions of skin proanthocyanidins. Color and anthocyanin concentration decreased when the maceration was longer, whereas polysaccharide and proanthocyanidin concentrations did the opposite. It was also detected that the mDP and the percentage of prodelphinidins decreased when the maceration was extended, whereas the percentage of galloylation increased. These data seem to indicate that proanthocyanidin extraction from seeds is clearly increased throughout the maceration time. 相似文献

A set of 72?PM10 samples from low-polluted urban and rural locations belonging to the regional air monitoring network of Extremadura (Spain) were collected in a 1?year sampling period. Sample pre-treatment and analytical determination by gas chromatography?Cion trap mass spectrometry were optimised and validated for the analysis of the priority 16 US Environmental Protection Agency polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). The influence of meteorological conditions (temperature, relative humidity and solar radiation) and other atmospheric pollutants (O3, NO2, SO2, PM10) has been covered in detail and Pearson correlation test were used for this purpose. Spatial distribution of particulate PAHs was evaluated and the comparison with other European sites was also established. A 4 yr old intact male rat terrier presented with severe bilateral nonresponsive panuveitis. Bilateral uveitis, blepharospasm, conjunctival hyperemia, diffuse corneal edema, peripheral bullous retinal detachment, and secondary ocular hypertension were noted. Ocular lesions progressed despite aggressive medical treatment and were followed by cutaneous depigmentation and crusting along the nasal planum. Intensive oral and topical anti-inflammatory and topical antiglaucoma medications were administered, but the ocular disease progressed. A bilateral enucleation was performed. Uveodermatologic syndrome was diagnosed from histopathologic examination of a skin biopsy as well as histopathology of both globes after bilateral enucleation. To maintain control of the dermatologic lesions, oral azathioprine was initiated, but it was not well tolerated by this patient. Immunosuppressive doses of oral cyclosporine and anti-inflammatory doses of oral prednisone were used to control the depigmentation and crusting skin lesions. 相似文献

The current cervical artificial insemination (CAI) procedure, involving deposition of excessive sperm numbers, is uneconomical for pig industry. The most obvious alternative requires uterine deposition in combination with fixed-time AI, which would reduce the number of sperm required per pregnant sow, thus allowing the best use of valuable boars and, ultimately, the commercial integration of frozen-thawed and sexed sperm. This study aimed at comparing the effect of ram semen preserved at 5°C on two milk‐based extenders (UHT skim milk or INRA‐96®, 5% egg yolk) supplemented with 2% glycerol, and the preservation time (24 and 48 h) on conception rates after cervical AI of ewes. In two field trials, 1198 Merino ewes were cervical AI in spontaneous oestrus. In Experiment 1, pooled semen (6 rams) was extended in UHT‐base (fresh, control) or chilled for 24 h in UHT5Y (UHT‐base 5% egg yolk), INRA5Y (INRA‐96® 5% egg yolk), UHT5Y2G (UHT5Y 2% glycerol) or INRA5Y2G (INRA5Y 2% glycerol). In Experiment 2, AI was performed with pooled semen (7 rams) used fresh (extended in UHT‐base or UHT5Y2G, control groups) or chilled (extended in UHT5Y2G) for 24 or 48 h. Conception rate was determined by ultrasound 40 days after AI. INRA‐96®– had similar conception as UHT‐preserved semen (56.7 vs 55.4%, p > 0.05). Addition of 2% glycerol did not modify the results (56.8 vs 55.2%, p > 0.05). Fresh semen extended in UHT‐base, and UHT5Y2G yielded similar conception rates (60 vs 64%, p > 0.05). Preservation for 24 or 48 h in UHT5Y2G gave similar results (49 vs 47%; p > 0.05). In conclusion, ram semen chilled for 24 h in UHT‐ or INRA‐96®‐based extenders yielded similar results, and glycerol addition did not have a detrimental effect. UHT5Y2G might be used to extend ram semen for fresh AI, or to preserve it for 24 or 48 h with acceptable results. 相似文献

A comprehensive field study was carried out with the following objectives: (a) to assess the usefulness of individual and bulk tank milk analysis for determining Neospora caninum serostatus in individual cows and herds, and (b) to study the associations between N. caninum infection status (based on milk testing), and several productive and reproductive parameters in the animals. Antibodies were detected with a commercially available ELISA test (Bio K 192/5). Analysis of paired serum and milk samples from 1134 lactating cows on 38 farms revealed that 97.6% of the ELISA results were coincident, irrespective of whether serum or milk samples were used. Moreover, multiple linear regression analysis revealed that 86.0% of the variations in ELISA values in milk were due to variations in the serum. The measurement of antibodies in bulk tank milk was a good estimator of the herd level status of N. caninum infection, and enabled detection of infection in 94.7% herds with ≥10.0% seropositive cows and/or in all herds with >4% highly seropositive cows. The odds ratio for abortion in seropositive animals was 9.1 times higher than in seronegative animals. The infection serostatus was also a significant risk factor, as the odds ratio for abortion was even higher (12.0 times) in cows categorized as highly seropositive. ELISA values for the bulk milk from 387 randomly selected herds were negatively associated with average milk production.
