The Abbassa selection line (developed by selective breeding) and the Kafr El Sheikh commercial strain (widely used in Egypt), both Oreochromis niloticus, were compared at two stocking densities (two and four fish m?2). Harvest weight, length, depth, width and head length were recorded. The Abbassa line showed a superior harvest weight (28 per cent) over the Kafr El Sheikh strain. Males were heavier than females, but the between‐sex difference was greater in the commercial than in the Abbassa line (39 and 31 per cent respectively). Females in the Abbassa line grew almost as fast as males in the commercial line. Both strains grew faster at the lower density, and the percentage reduction in harvest weight at the higher density was about the same for both strains (27 per cent). The advantage of the Abbassa line was 28 per cent at both densities. Both strains had a similar survival rate (approximately 80 per cent) during the grow‐out period. We conclude that the Abbassa line is ready for release to the tilapia industry in Egypt. Further evidence is being sought in currently underway on‐farm evaluations. Measures should be taken to ensure the long‐term viability of the Abbassa line.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: The psocids Liposcelis bostrychophila Badonnel and L. entomophila (Enderlein) (Liposcelididae) are emerging pests of stored products. Although their behavior, particularly their high mobility, may contribute to the reported relatively low efficacy of insecticides against them, studies to investigate this have not been conducted. The present study aimed to assess the label rate efficacy of three commercial insecticides (β‐cyfluthrin, chlorfenapyr and pyrethrins) applied on concrete surfaces against L. bostrychophila and L. entomophila, and also their sublethal effect on the mobility of these species. RESULTS: The synthetic insecticides β‐cyfluthrin and chlorfenapyr showed high short‐term efficacy (LT95≤15 h) against both psocid species, unlike the natural pyrethrins (LT95 ≥ 4 days). Liposcelis bostrychophila was slightly more tolerant (≥1.2×) than L. entomophila to all three insecticides. Behavioral assays with fully sprayed and half‐sprayed concrete arenas indicated that the insecticides reduced the mobility of both species. Pyrethrins seem to elicit weak repellence in L. bostrychophila. CONCLUSION: β‐Cyfluthrin and chlorfenapyr were effective against both psocid species, but not pyrethrins. The mobility of both species does not seem to play a major role in the differential selectivity observed, but the lower mobility of L. bostrychophila may be a contributing factor to its higher insecticide tolerance. We set up a protocol for the assay of the arylesterase activity, using p-nitrophenyl acetate (p-NPA) as substrate, dimethylsulfoxide as solvent, modified universal buffer at pH 7.5, and determination of the reaction product (p-nitrophenol) after separation of non-hydrolysed p-NPA after reaction, and tested it using eight soils with a wide range of characteristics. Various incubation temperatures and times, pH values and substrate concentrations were also used to find the optimal conditions for the enzyme activity and to determine characteristics and kinetic parameters of soil arylesterase. Arylesterase activity was significantly correlated with total organic C, total N, and soil ATP content. Soil arylesterase activity showed a pH optimum at 7.5, optimal temperature between 55 and 65 °C and linear increase with incubation time. The Km values ranged from 4.3 to 8.5 mM, the Vmax values from 326 to 803 μmol p-NP g−1 h−1, with higher Km values observed in soils with higher organic matter content. We conclude that the proposed assay protocol is suitable to determine the arylesterase activity in a wide range of soils.  相似文献

A method for the separation, isolation, and identification of phytosterols was developed. A commercial phytosterols mixture, Generol 95S, was fractionated first by adsorption silica gel column chromatography and then separated by means of a semipreparative reverse phase high-performance liquid chromatography fitted with a Polaris C8-A column (250 mm x 10 mm i.d., 5 microm) using isocratic acetonitrile:2-propanol:water (2:1:1, v/v/v) as the mobile phase. Milligram scales of six individual phytosterols, including citrostadienol, campesterol, beta-sitosterol, Delta7-avenasterol, Delta7-campesterol, and Delta7-sitosterol, were obtained. Purities of these isolated sterols were 85-98%. Relative response factors (RRF) of these phytosterols were calculated against cholestanol as an authentic commercial standard. These RRF values were used to quantify by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) the phytosterols content in a reference material, oils, and chocolates.  相似文献
