This study was performed to evaluate the effect of beta-tricalcium phosphate and poly L-lactide-co-glycolide-co-epsilon-caprolactone (TCP/PLGC) membrane in the repair of partial bone defects in canine proximal humerus. Three adult mixed-breed dogs were used during the experimental period. The length of the defect was quarter of the full length of humerus, and width of the defect was quarter of middle diameter of the lateral aspect of humerus. The humeri of each dog were divided into treatment (TCP/PLGC) and control groups. The defect was covered with TCP/PLGC membrane in treatment group. To evaluate regeneration of the bone, computerized tomography (CT) and histopathologic examination were performed. The radiopaque lines were appeared at the original defect sites in TCP/PLGC group but below the original site in control at 4th week. Radiopacity and thickness of the defect sites, and radiopaque lines were more increased at 8th week than those of 4th week. Histopathologic findings revealed fibrous connective tissue migration into the defect and the migration inhibited the structure of new cortex to be placed in the original level in control whereas new cortex growth was found in the level of original line in TCP/PLGC group. However, the new cortical bone in the TCP/PLGC group was thinner and less organized than the adjacent intact cortex, and the amount of new cancellous bones were also scanty. ABSTRACT: The effects of silvering state of wild female Japanese eels Anguilla japonica on the success of induced maturation and the following spawning were examined. Thirty-eight females, collected in Mikawa Bay, were divided into four stages based on their silvering state: yellow (Y1), late-yellow (Y2), silver (S1) and late silver eels (S2). Despite injections of salmon pituitary extract (SPE) through the standard technique, Y1 and Y2 eels did not respond to the treatment with undeveloped gonad (gonad-somatic index [GSI]: 0.3–0.9), and all these females died by 5 weeks, probably due to an abnormal physiological condition. Most S1 (81%) and S2 eels (100%) matured completely (GSI: 17.8–51.4), and finally spawned successfully (69% for S1, 89% for S2). S2 eels fully matured with oocytes of over 750 μm in diameter by significantly smaller number of injections of SPE (5–6 times) than the case of S1 eels (6–8 times). The amount of eggs released by S2 eels (0.65 ± 0.11 g/fish per body weight [BW]) was significantly larger than those by S1 eels (0.54 ± 0.09 g/fish per BW). There was no difference in fertilization and hatching rates between eggs released by S1 eels and those of S2 eels. These results indicate that the success of induced maturation and spawning in wild female Japanese eels depends on their silvering state, and matured eggs can be obtained efficiently through the use of S2 eels rather than other stages. 相似文献

An indirect hemagglutination (IHA) test using sonicated extract as the antigen was developed for the detection of antibodies to Clostridium chauvoei. This antigen can be adsorbed onto glutaraldehyde-fixed sheep red blood cells treated with tannic acid and can be destroyed by trypsin and heat treatment. It corresponded well with the flagella of the organism, when analyzed by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and the gel diffusion test. No serological cross-reactivity was found in the IHA test when the antigen was tested against 4 species of clostridial antibodies. Summary Structural factors in a Pinus densiflora tree grown under the influence of strong wind were measured. No
difference for cellulose molecules was noticed between compression and opposite wood, but the
was somewhat lower in the region where the compression wood was concentrated. The degree of crystallinity of cellulose was 45–50% in compression wood, about 50% in normal wood, and 50–60% in opposite wood. The crystallinity decreased with increasing height above the ground. The maximum point of crystallographic b-axis (fiber axis) orientation distribution for cellulose crystallites in compression wood was located at 30°, in normal wood at 25° and in opposite wood at 0°. The cellulose crystallite dimension in the transverse direction was 3.2 nm, corresponding to four cellulose unit cells, a value that was almost constant throughout the wood. In the longitudinal direction, there were large differences in cellulose crystallite dimensions between compression and opposite woods. In compression wood the cellulose crystallite dimensions was 12 nm corresponding to 11–12 cellulose unit cells. In opposite wood it was 17–32.5 nm corresponding to 17–32 cellulose unit cells. These structural factors were apparently affected by the environmental conditions, and the mechanical properties of the wood were influenced by these factors. Opposite wood had longer crystallites, a higher degree of crystallinity and a better orientation distribution of cellulose crystallites in the longitudinal direction. To clarify mechanisms underlying variation in transpiration rate among deciduous broad-leaved tree species, we measured diurnal changes in stomatal conductance (gs) and leaf water potential, and calculated the maximum transpiration rate (Emax), leaf-specific hydraulic conductance (K(s-l)) and difference between the soil water potential and the daily minimum leaf water potential (Psis - Psi(l,min)). Pressure-volume (P-V) measurements were made on leaves. Saplings of eight broad-leaved tree species that are common in Japanese cool temperate forests were studied. Maximum transpiration rate varied significantly among species. There was a statistically significant difference in Psis - Psi(l,min), but not in K(s-l). Species with large Emax also had large Psis - Psi(l,min) and gs. The results of the P-V analyses showed that species with a large Psis - Psi(l,min) maintained turgor even at low leaf water potentials. The similar daily minimum leaf pressure potentials (Psip) across all eight species indicate that Psip values below this minimum are critical. Based on these results, we suggest that the leaf cell capacity for turgor maintenance strongly affects Psis - Psi(l,min) and consequently Emax via stomatal regulation. 相似文献

This study examines a method for designing an optimum profile of a forest road in a short matter of time. In this method,
a genetic algorithm (GA) searches for points where the gradient changes and dynamic programing (DP) designs the longitudinal
slope. This method can be applied to the ground heights of an actual forest road. The evaluation function of the DP assesses
the total expenditure. The inverse of this function is the fitness function. Crossover and mutation are operators of an evolution
simulation of a GA. They are each repeated 20 times and 420 profiles are designed and assessed, all within about 10 min. A
comparison of the profile designed by the GA with that of an actual forest road shows only one section where the formation
level differed substantially. Overall, both profiles seem to show a high degree of correspondence. From this result, we believe
that the profile designed by the GA is best, or the one of the best. A conventional method takes about 65 h to calculate all
changing points of gradients. However, by using the GA, the calculation time was reduced to about 1/389 that of the coventional
method, showing that the method which uses the GA through the profile design is very useful. 相似文献
