For adding the hulless barley resources of Shangri-la region to the global barley resource library, a basic work was done by us to assess their genetic diversity of this region. The genetic diversity of 60 hulless barley samples collected from three counties in Shangri-la region of Yunnan Province, were studied using SSR (simple sequence repeats) and AFLP (amplified fragment length polymorphism) markers. A total of 70 alleles were detected for 19 pairs of SSR primers, and 525 band containing 464 polymorphic bands were revealed for 5 pairs of AFLP primers. The value of polymorphism information content (PIC) ranged from 0.03 to 0.86 for SSR primers. The total numbers of alleles were 51, 55, 43 in three populations and the polymorphic bands were 188, 205 and 141. The genetic distances and genetic identity among the three populations showed their close relationship. The gene diversity among populations relative to the total population diversity (Gst) was 0.13 for SSR markers and 0.02 for AFLP markers and indicated that just 13 and 2% variations were among populations, respectively. The UPGMA cluster analysis revealed that all of the samples grouped randomly rather than clustered into distinct groups corresponding to their populations, row types and spring/fall types. We concluded that there was high genetic diversity in the population of Shangri-la region and the formation of diversity was related to complex environment and inhabitants’ traditional practices.  相似文献

Indicators of piglet survival in an outdoor farrowing system   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Pre-weaning piglet mortality continues to be a major welfare and economic concern. In outdoor farrowing systems, there is a particular need to broaden breeding goals by incorporating selection for piglet survival to improve both productivity and welfare. This study aimed to identify behavioural and physiological survival indicators that are influential in outdoor systems and that could provide additional information for use when selecting for piglet survival. Data were collected from 511 piglets from Large White × Landrace × Duroc sows and Generalised Linear Mixed Models determined which indicators were most important for piglet survival in an outdoor system. With respect to prenatal mortality (surviving vs. stillborn piglets) high ponderal index (< 0.001) or body mass index (P < 0.001) in conjunction with being born earlier in the farrowing birth order (< 0.001) were the most important survival indicators. Birth weight (< 0.001) and rectal temperature 1 h after birth (= 0.032) were the most significant postnatal survival indicators. However survival indicators identified as important in indoor, conventional farrowing crates, such as landmark behaviours (latency to reach the udder, a teat and to suckle colostrum), were not influential in this system. These results highlight the importance of studying potential indicators of survival in alternative farrowing systems to the farrowing crate.  相似文献

The near-infrared spectrometer on board the Japanese Hayabusa spacecraft found a variation of more than 10% in albedo and absorption band depth in the surface reflectance of asteroid 25143 Itokawa. Spectral shape over the 1-micrometer absorption band indicates that the surface of this body has an olivine-rich mineral assemblage potentially similar to that of LL5 or LL6 chondrites. Diversity in the physical condition of Itokawa's surface appears to be larger than for other S-type asteroids previously explored by spacecraft, such as 433 Eros.  相似文献

1. The photopic spectral sensitivity of domestic ducks and turkeys was determined using an operant psychophysical technique. Spectral sensitivity was determined over a range of specified wavelengths, including UVA, between 326 < lambda < 694 nm and the results were directly compared with human spectral sensitivity measured under similar experimental conditions. 2. Domestic ducks and turkeys had similar spectral sensitivities to each other, and could perceive UVA radiation, although turkeys were more sensitive to UVA than ducks. For both species, peak sensitivity was between 544 < lambda < 577 nm, with reduced sensitivity at lambda = 508 and 600 nm. Both ducks and turkeys had a very different and broader range of spectral sensitivity than the human subjects tested. 3. Spectral sensitivity and UVA perception in these avian species are discussed in relation to their visual ecology and the mechanisms controlling neural processing of colour information.  相似文献

Abstract. Nitrate leaching and soil mineral N status under grassland were measured on three contrasting soils, spanning winters 1995/96, 1996/97 and 1997/98, in Western England. The soils investigated were a freely draining silty clay loam (Rosemaund), a well drained loam (IGER 1) and a poorly drained clay loam (IGER 2). The effects of reseeding (ploughing and resowing grass) at IGER 1 and IGER 2 in autumn 1995 or 1996 were compared with undisturbed pasture. Reseeding at Rosemaund, in autumns 1995 or 1996, or spring 1996 was compared with undisturbed pasture of 3 sward ages (2, 5, >50 years).
Nitrate-N leaching losses during the winter immediately following autumn reseeding ranged between 60 and 350 kg N ha–1 in 1995/96, depending on soil type, sward management history and rainfall. Losses were much less in the following winter when treatments were repeated (10–107 kg N ha–1).
Reseeding in spring had little effect on soil mineral N content or leaching losses in the following autumn, compared with undisturbed pasture. Similarly, leaching losses from autumn reseeds in the second winter after cultivation were the same as undisturbed pasture (1-19 kg N ha–1). The effect of ploughing grassland for reseeding was relatively short-term, in contrast to the effect of repeated annual cultivation associated with arable rotations.  相似文献

Abstract. Ceramic suction cups were used to obtain samples of soil solution from permanently grazed swards receiving 200 kg N/ha/y. The suction cups were installed in 1 ha plots at 10, 30 and 60 an depth in a poorly drained, heavy clay soil in S. W. England. The plots were hydrologically isolated from each other by perimeter drains which channelled surface runoff water into v-notch weirs. In one treatment, artificial drainage by a system of field and mole drains also converged to outfalls through v-notch weirs, which enabled samples to be taken. Nitrate and a range of other ionic constituents were examined over a 12 month period in soil solutions taken from the suction cups and compared with leachate obtained from the field drains and surface channels. Field drain samples frequently exceeded the EC limit of 11.3 mg nitrate-N/1, but concentrations in suction cups obtained during the same period did not, and were up to ten-fold less. Although correlations for ions were found between different sampling depths and drainage samples, no clear patterns emerged. It was concluded that suction cups were inappropriate for the determination of the overall leaching losses in this soil type, but provided useful data on changes in ionic concentrations which occurred in different soil horizons through to drainage outfalls.  相似文献

 Nitrogen mineralization was measured in three permanent pastures – either fertilized or unfertilized grass, or a mixed grass-clover sward – which were further amended with either fertilizer or cattle dung over a summer growing season. Measurements were made at 4-weekly intervals from June to October. Rates of net mineralization were similar in each of the background treatments (overall mean 0.99±0.091 kg N ha–1 day–1) and did not change markedly during the experiment. From the second sampling (July) onwards, rates of mineralization in all the dung treatments were higher than in the control by a factor of up to 2. In the fertilizer-amended treatments, rates were also consistently (but not significantly) higher than in the control. However, the relatively small effect of fertilizer detected at each sampling had a significant cumulative effect by the end of the experiment. There was no interaction between the background and current treatments. Potential mineralization, measured by anaerobic incubation, increased in all the treatments over the period of the experiment, showing an accumulation of readily mineralizable residues. Total N mineralized and the N accumulated during the experiment were calculated and compared. This approach suggests that potential measurements could provide a good estimate of changes in soil N supply that would not be otherwise detectable in changes in soil total N in the short-term. Because pectins are released from potatoes and other plants under conditions that cleave ester linkages, it has been suggested that there are other galaturonoyl ester cross-links between pectin chains in addition to the known non-cross-linking methyl esters. A microscale titration method and a copper binding method were developed for the measurement of total polymer carboxyl (essentially pectic) ester content in potato cell walls. Relative to the uronic acid content of the cell walls, the degree of total esterification was 57-58%. Comparison with levels of methanol released on ester hydrolysis allowed nonmethyl uronoyl esters to be estimated to be 14-15% relative to total uronic acid. The possibility of nonmethyl-esterified linkages being formed in potato cell walls by a side-reaction catalyzed by pectin methyl esterase (PME) was investigated, but no increase in nonmethyl-esterified pectin was observed under conditions where pectin was being effectively de-esterified by endogenous PME activity.  相似文献
