Cyanobacteria are a rich source of secondary metabolites with a vast biotechnological potential. These compounds have intrigued the scientific community due their uniqueness and diversity, which is guaranteed by a rich enzymatic apparatus. The ribosomally synthesized and post-translationally modified peptides (RiPPs) are among the most promising metabolite groups derived from cyanobacteria. They are interested in numerous biological and ecological processes, many of which are entirely unknown. Microviridins are among the most recognized class of ribosomal peptides formed by cyanobacteria. These oligopeptides are potent inhibitors of protease; thus, they can be used for drug development and the control of mosquitoes. They also play a key ecological role in the defense of cyanobacteria against microcrustaceans. The purpose of this review is to systematically identify the key characteristics of microviridins, including its chemical structure and biosynthesis, as well as its biotechnological and ecological significance. 相似文献

Seaweeds are a potential source of bioactive compounds that are useful for biotechnological applications and can be employed in different industrial areas in order to replace synthetic compounds with components of natural origin. Diverse studies demonstrate that there is a solid ground for the exploitation of seaweed bioactive compounds in order to prevent illness and to ensure a better and healthier lifestyle. Among the bioactive algal molecules, phenolic compounds are produced as secondary metabolites with beneficial effects on plants, and also on human beings and animals, due to their inherent bioactive properties, which exert antioxidant, antiviral, and antimicrobial activities. The use of phenolic compounds in pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, cosmetics, and food industries may provide outcomes that could enhance human health. Through the production of healthy foods and natural drugs, bioactive compounds from seaweeds can help with the treatment of human diseases. This review aims to highlight the importance of phenolic compounds from seaweeds, the scope of their production in nature and the impact that these compounds can have on human and animal health through nutraceutical and pharmaceutical products. 相似文献

The fungi have wide distribution in ecosystems and can be found colonizing various substrates,where they act as efficient decomposers,participating in cycling of nutrients.The present study aimed to assess the diversity,richness and composition of filamentous fungi in leaf litter and aerial litter in a semi-deciduous forest in the Chapada Diamantina,Bahia,Brazil.Samples of leaf litter and aerial litter were collected monthly from October/2009 to September/2010 in eight installments in the studied area.Those samples were washed,placed in moist chambers and incubated.47 taxa were identified,37 in leaf litter and 35 in aerial litter,with 25 species common to both.A similarity of 69 % according to Sorensen index.The similarity was considered low when the sample points were compared to the same litter.Most fungi showed sporadic intervals. 相似文献

We present a segmented partial least squares (PLS) prediction model for firmness of ‘Rocha’ pear (Pyrus communis L.) during fruit ripening under shelf-life conditions. Pears were collected from three different orchards. Orchard I provided the pears for model calibration and internal validation (set 1). These were transferred to shelf-life in the dark at 20 ± 2 °C and 70% RH, immediately after harvest. External validation was performed on the pears from the other two orchards (sets 2 and 3), which were stored under different conditions before shelf-life. Fruit was followed in the shelf-life period by visible/near infrared reflectance spectroscopy (Vis/NIRS) in the range 400–950 nm. The correlation between firmness and the reflectance at some wavelength bands was markedly different depending on ripening stage. A segmented partial least squares model was then constructed to predict firmness. This PLS model has two segments: (1) unripe and ripening/ripe pears (high firmness); (2) over-ripe pears (low firmness). The prediction is done in two steps. First, a full range model (full model) is applied. When the full model prediction gives a low firmness value, then the over-ripe model is applied to refine the prediction. The full model is reasonably significant in regression terms, robust, but allows only a coarse quantitative prediction (standard deviation ratio, SDR = 2.48, 1.50 and 2.40 for sets 1, 2 and 3, respectively). Also, RMSEP% = 139%, 91% and 56%, indicating large relative errors at low firmness values. The segmented model improved moderately the correlation, and the values of RMSEC, RMSEP and SDR; it improved significantly the RMSEP% (29%, 55% and 31%), providing an improvement of the relative prediction errors at low firmness values. This method improves the ordinary PLS models. Finally, we tested whether chlorophyll alone was enough for a predictive model for firmness, but the results showed that the absorption of chlorophyll alone does not explain the performance of the PLS models. 相似文献

In tropical regions with well‐defined wet and dry seasons, repeated wetting and drying cycles can harden exposed soils and inhibit root growth. While this phenomenon has been well documented, the relationships between plant productivity and chemical and physical soil parameters have not been well defined. The current study identifies the abiotic parameters that best relate to measures of plant development, specifically to corn productivity. The primary goal of this research was to provide information to improve agricultural sustainability in humid tropical ecosystems. The effects of using plant residues as a cover on a sandy soil were studied. Four leguminous species were planted in an alley cropping system, Leucaena leucocephala, Cajanus cajan, Clitoria fairchildiana and Acacia mangium, and corn was planted in January 2007 between legume rows. We measured the most important chemical and physical soil parameters. Yield indicators included cob weight and the weight of 100 kernels. The application of plant residues altered soil conditions and increased rootable soil volume. This change was associated with an increase by 10% in water retention above field capacity in the uppermost soil layer of the residue‐covered sections of the experiment. In the control sections cobs were up to three times lighter (31.43–93.38 g) in the bare soil control than those from residue‐covered sections of the experiment. Dynamic indicators related to nutrient absorption and crop evapotranspiration, such as the number of days with water stress and rootable soil volume, were the most suitable indicators for assessing soil quality. The response of corn was best related to complex physical indicators, including the amount of N applied via legume residues. 相似文献

Magnetic susceptibility (χ, mass specific) is useful for easy indirect estimation of other soil properties at a low cost. The aim of this study was to assess the use of χ as measured with an analytical balance for predicting properties with a substantial influence on the management of Typic Haplustalfs in southern Brazil. To achieve this 48 topsoil samples were taken at the intersection points in a rectangular grid of 20 m × 20 m cells, with 38 of these used for calibration and 10 for validation in regression analyses. The obtained χ values were slightly higher than, and highly correlated (r = 0.970; P < 0.001) with those measured with a susceptibility meter. Highly significant (P < 0.001) correlations were also found between χ and other soil properties relevant to soil classification and management such as clay content (r = 0.68), cation exchange capacity (r = 0.62), P sorption capacity (r = 0.76) and haematite content (r = 0.82). Results from a principal component analysis of eight properties important for soil classification explained 11% of the variance in the data set. The good predictive ability of χ was consistent with current knowledge on the formation pathways for pedogenic ferrimagnets. In summary, χ, which can be readily measured with an analytical balance, has the potential for quantifying soil attributes and may therefore be used in pedotransfer functions. 相似文献
